Typical typing jobs you’ll find on Microworkers include collecting data and entering it into spreadsheets, translating robot commands to natural conversation, and transcription.

I found an older Reddit thread where users were discussing MicroWorkers strategy and pay. Unfortunately, it looked like the average pay was in the $5-$7 per hour range. Payment will vary, though, depending on the jobs you take, your skill level, and how quick you are.

  • Hourly Pay: All jobs pay a different amount

mTurk is a company run by Amazon that pays its users for completing tasks called “HITs.” HIT stands for Human Intelligence Task and is a small virtual task that needs to be completed by a human.

Many different HITs are available on mTurk, with some of the most popular being categorization research and data entry,  image processing, and data verification. The pay at mTurk varies by job, but since most jobs are small, the payment is also small.

The good thing about mTurk is you can work when you want, as much as you want. So, if your regular work has dried up, you can use mTurk as a backup for now.

I browsed some Reddit threads to see what avid mTurk workers were making, and it seems like $6-$12 is the norm, with workers occasionally (not consistently) earning up to $20/hr.

  • Hourly Pay: Varies by task and your speed

11. Babbletype

  • Hourly Pay: depends upon your speed and accuracy

12. Casting Words

Casting Words hires freelancers to transcribe all kinds of audio and video clips. These freelancers get paid to type everything they see and hear. Signing up is very easy, and they don’t seem to have as many requirements as the other sites. In fact, if you’re over 18 and live in a supported country, you’re pretty much good to go.

Some users will receive short assessments they have to take after filling out their profiles.

The pay you receive depends on your rating. If your work is rated a 0-4, your job will be rejected, and you won’t receive payment. Work rated a 5 gets the base pay for the job, and everything above a 5 qualifies for extra pay.

  • Hourly Pay: 0.085 – $1.00 per audio minute
  • Hours : 100% Flexible

13. ClickWorker

ClickWorker

Clickworker is very similar to mTurk. This company hires workers to complete micro-tasks, including correcting text, verifying data, and categorizing data.

Top Questions About Online Typing and Data Entry Jobs

How much money can i expect to earn typing online.

Online typing and data entry jobs are not high-paying. You can expect to earn anywhere from $6 to $12 per hour from most of the jobs on this list. More experienced transcribers with fast and accurate typing speeds may be able to earn more.

It’s essential to understand that the pay per audio or video minute will not be your hourly pay.

Let’s say, for example, pay per audio minute is $1.00. It takes you 4 minutes to transcribe that one minute of audio. This makes your pay $0.25 per minute or the equivalent of $15 per hour.

Are These Jobs Only for Freelancers?

You can find data entry jobs that will hire you as a W-2 employee. However, most on this list won’t. (The exception is Xerox and Aberdeen.)

Most online typing jobs hire freelancers as independent contractors. This means you’ll receive a 1099 at the end of the year for income tax purposes and will be responsible for paying self-employment taxes.

If you’re worried about the tax aspect of freelancing, consult an accountant. An accountant can advise you on how much money to hold back for taxes and how to send in and report self-employment taxes.

Can Students Apply for Work from Home Typing Jobs?

Yes. If you’re a college student and are looking for flexible work you can do anywhere, you can absolutely sign up for work from home typing jobs.

Most of these jobs only require you to be 18, a US resident, and an accurate typer. Other than that, you’ll need a Paypal account to receive payment.

How Can I Earn More From Typing Jobs?

Since most typing or transcription jobs are paid per project, the best way to increase your income is to become a faster and more accurate typer. Luckily, the more practice you get, the more your typing skills will improve.

You can also look into transcription certification programs, but you need to be very selective when doing so. There are many scams, so be sure to check on the legitimacy of any company you sign up with.

Get Paid to Type: What You Should Know

If you want to get paid to type, there are many transcription and data entry jobs you can apply for. It’s good to remember, though, that these jobs aren’t always high-paying and may not be suitable as full-time income sources.

If you want to give these jobs a go, sign up for a few places so that you always have work available to you. This way, you can see if you’ll be able to pull in a liveable income on data entry jobs.

And remember, the faster and more accurate you type, the more money you’ll be able to earn.

Legitimate work-from-home typing jobs (that pay more than data entry jobs)

typing jobs using cell phone

If you’re good at typing, there are a lot of work-from-home jobs that pay more than data entry. This guide will help you secure those jobs so you can start earning good money quickly.

Preparing for these jobs

typing jobs using cell phone

A good thing about most work from home typing jobs is that you don’t need any specific qualifications to land them, just some experience and preparation.

Test your typing speed and accuracy

In the typing world, speed and accuracy are key qualifications. Luckily, there are many tests you can take online such as:

  • Typing.com Test
  • Typing Academy Test
  • LiveChat Typing Test

The average speed for professional typists range from 50 WPM (words per minute) to 80 WPM. If your score falls short of these averages, keep practicing. It’s also important to note that speed isn’t everything—aim for accuracy as well.

Build a portfolio

A portfolio can be as simple as a bunch of links you keep privately, and then send out when you’re pitching work. It can also be more detailed like Caitlin Reid on Clippings or Jake Bleiberg on Clippings .

To start a portfolio, gather examples of the best work you’ve done and get them into a document or spreadsheet. You can liven it up with pictures or art if you’d like, but the important part is the work. If you haven’t written anything online yet, you can start for free by writing posts on LinkedIn blogging and Medium , or posting on your own social media accounts.

Build a presence online

Make sure you’re easy to find online. In specific, you need:

  • A personal website : Tools like WordPress or Carrd streamline the process for you.
  • Active social media profiles : Platforms like LinkedIn or Twitter are well-built for writing.

Make sure your profiles are filled out properly so people know what kind of work you offer.

Where (and how) to find work-from-home typing jobs

typing jobs using cell phone

Although there are plenty of jobs available, it takes some work to find them. Start by choosing your focus, then look for roles in the right places, and don’t forget to tell your network.

1. Choose your focus

Think about what work you enjoy doing, particularly any additional skills on top of typing. This can help narrow down your options, so you can find typing jobs more tailored to you. It can also help you when you pitch because you can be more specific about the things you're strongest at and showcase skills that differentiate you from other candidates.

2. Look in the right places:

After choosing a focus, there are multiple freelance marketplaces, managed services, and job boards you can use to find gigs.

Marketplaces

  • Freelance Writing Gigs : Freelance Writing Gigs rounds up job postings each week and sends one big email. They also provide guides for building your online portfolio.
  • Contenta : Contenta helps find freelance writing gigs and offers a writer training course to help you up your game.
  • Guru : Guru offers one of the larger marketplaces for online writing jobs.
  • Problogger : Problogger only focuses on blog-related work from home freelance gigs.
  • Copify : Copify will let you offer your services for different kinds of content.
  • The Writer Finder : The Writer Finder offers a more personalized approach to finding you matches for work. You fill out a survey, and they’ll come to you with the best matches that you can pitch.

When you start a profile on a marketplace, make sure it’s comprehensive. Name every kind of typing service you want to offer and provide examples of your work. This process gets easier as you collect more work and get reviews.

Managed services

If you don’t like managing clients, freelance managed services might be a good fit. These platforms will find you gigs, place you for work, and handle all the administrative tasks so you can focus on getting the job done. In return, they take a small percentage of your pay.

  • Magic : Magic will take into account the work you want to focus on, and assign you to the best fit clients.
  • Virtual Gurus : If you’ve built up a decent portfolio of work, Virtual Gurus is worth applying to for more experienced typists.
  • Marketer Hire : A managed service exclusively for marketers, you can sign up as a writer on the platform and get placed with clients almost immediately.

Many companies post work-from-home typing gigs on job boards.

  • FlexJobs : FlexJobs looks over every job that’s posted on the platform to ensure you’re getting the safest remote listings.
  • Remote OK : Remote OK offers one of the most intuitive UIs for job searches so you can browse hundreds of potential typing jobs quickly.
  • WeWorkRemotely : If you like a straightforward search, We Work Remotely has one of the most simplistic and easy-to-use search engines on the job board market.
  • Dynamite Jobs : On certain postings, Dynamite Jobs allows you to connect directly with hiring managers so you can connect to them faster.
  • Custom LinkedIn search: Many hiring managers will share their job postings on LinkedIn, and a custom search can help direct you to many of those posts.

3 - Tell your network

Make it clear on your LinkedIn or social media pages that you’re offering writing services, but don’t be too pushy with your network. Even if people don’t have an immediate need for your services, at the very least they’ll know they have someone they can go to if the opportunity presents itself.

Did you know? 30% of telecommuters save upward of $5,000 per year. - Review42

Crafting your pitch to get the gig

Once you’ve found the opportunity (or opportunities!) you want, here are some tips on crafting the perfect pitch to help you land the job:

If you got an inbound lead : Ask about the individual’s goals and needs. This will help you tailor your proposal so it best fits what they want.

If you saw the opportunity on a freelance marketplace : Follow all the rules for applying that the marketplace sets out. Also, make sure you follow any instructions laid out by the person posting the gig.

If you got the opportunity from a managed service : Take the same approach as a marketplace, but follow the rules of the managed service. Each platform will likely have its own process for taking on new work, so be prepared to make the necessary adjustments across different outlets.

If you saw the opportunity on a job board : Apply like you would if it was a full time job. This could include writing out a cover letter, and adding a short introduction note to the hiring manager before you apply. Some job boards have their own instructions, so be sure to follow those as well.

Managing clients

typing jobs using cell phone

Once you get the gig, it’s important to prioritize client management. This will help you get the best outcome from your projects and ensure you are paid on time. Here are a few points to keep in mind:

Project scoping : Make sure the project outcome is clear before you start work. Ask what a successful outcome looks like and what metrics you’re expected to hit.

Communication : Be transparent about timelines and delivery dates. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you aren’t clear on anything. Communication is a big key to making sure everybody is on the same page.

Invoicing and payments : Make sure you have a good payment system that allows you to create professional invoices quickly and accept payments efficiently. If you accept work through a marketplace or managed service, make sure you’re aware of their rules when it comes to payments (including fees).

Thinking long term : Think ahead about your client’s bigger business goals (and don’t be afraid to ask your clients what they’re planning). This will help you figure out ways you can improve how you work with them or to provide add-on services. Additionally, if you do a great job for a client, and they’re happy about the work you did, don’t be afraid to ask them for a referral.

Making money working from home

If you want to make money working from home, remember, you’re not just limited to just data entry. If you can type, there’s a huge opportunity to make money. There are tons of marketplaces and niches you focus on, and you can start building up a portfolio in no time. Work from home typing jobs can be the start of a beneficial side gig - or even a thriving full-time freelance business.

1. Freelance Writer

Freelance writers make an average of $29 an hour, but you can make much more or less depending on your writing. For example, you can write for yourself or content for other businesses, helping them with marketing strategies.

Here are some great options to make money as a freelance writer.

Bloggers are essentially small business owners and make an average of $35 an hour. You own a blog that you update regularly to keep your audience engaged. You should use proper search engine optimization techniques to cater to your desired audience and provide the right content to keep them engaged.

As a blogger, you can earn money writing sponsored posts for companies that ask you to write about them or through affiliate links- commissioned links you share for products and services that will matter to your niche.

Bloggers can also make money by selling their own products, but again, you must write about them and share enough helpful information to ensure your audience wants to purchase them.

Copy Writer

A copywriter helps companies with their advertising content and makes an average of $31 an hour. Your intent when copywriting is to sell but with purpose. You aren’t shoving products and services down your audience’s throat. Instead, you walk them through the sales funnel, gaining their trust, addressing their pain points, and showing them the possibilities they could have with the product or service your target company offers.

You can copywrite emails, social media, landing pages, and other marketing pages. The key is being able to type, having excellent grammar, and fully understanding how marketing works.

GhostWriter

Ghostwriters can write almost any type of content, but not in their name. So, for example, you may write blog posts for Kellogg’s, but they post the blogs in their executives’ names rather than yours.

When you’re a ghostwriter, you must adopt the persona of the person ‘writing’ the content. It should seem like that person wrote it when you handled the hard work behind the scenes. Ghostwriters make an average of $19.50 per hour.

Script Writer

All content has some type of written content behind it, even video or podcast content. Scriptwriters create the scripts that these influencers read on camera or microphone. For example, you could write scripts for sales ads, video games, or educational pieces. Like ghostwriting, you don’t get the credit for the writing but get paid an average of $30 an hour for the work done behind the scenes.

Research Report Production

Research report production requires more than simply typing words on a page. You must research to know what facts to share with your audience to have those words. Reputable data should back the information you provide to prove your statement.

2. Translator

If you speak another language, you can earn money translating important documents from your native language to English or vice versa. Of course, you must be good at the grammar and dialect of the other language to translate information, but it can help you earn a lucrative living from home.

3. Social Media Content Writer

A social media content writer’s job is to keep the audience engaged. There’s less pressure to write ‘sales content’ as a content writer. Instead, your job is to write informative, educational, and engaging content that gets followers to respond and stay engaged with the company. Social media content writers make an average of $24 an hour.

4. Editing and Proofreading

Proofreaders and editors review already written content, looking for grammatical errors and content that doesn’t flow. You might rewrite the content or simply make small changes. You may edit blog posts, website content, ebooks, whitepapers, and other written content.

In addition, you may get paid to write and edit captions for videos or court transcripts for legal experts. Editors make an average of $36 an hour.

5. Data Entry

Data entry is a great online typing job for beginners because it requires little to no experience, and you can make an average of $20 an hour. You must know how to work basic spreadsheets and word processors, but beyond that, your job is to accurately type data onto a sheet for companies.

Data entry is a great job to work from home because you can do it in your free time, such as when the kids are at school or napping.

7. Bookkeeping

Online typing jobs don’t always mean you have to write. If you don’t love grammar and writing but are good with numbers, consider working as a bookkeeper from home .

Bookkeepers ‘keep the financial books’ for small businesses. Your job may include reconciling bank accounts, making deposits, handling payroll, preparing tax documentation, and creating financial reports.

The good news is a degree isn’t necessary to be a bookkeeper, and you can make an average of $27 an hour working from home.

8. Online Chat Support

You’ve likely used an online chat option yourself. For example, you chat online with a representative rather than calling a company for support. But guess what?

Most of those representatives aren’t working in an office; they work from home!

You can be an online chat support person from home, working for large or small companies and helping customers with their problems. You don’t need experience to do this job; however, you must be courteous and have excellent customer service skills, including handling irate customers. Online chat support professionals average $17 to $22 an hour.

You won’t get rich taking surveys , but they can be fun between other tasks when working from home.

Survey takers share their opinion with market research companies on various topics. You can sign up with several survey companies to make money from home, increasing your chances of earning more.

Some surveys pay only a few dollars each, and others pay $100 or more. So again, it depends on the length and type of survey.

10. Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant is an office assistant but works remotely, making an average of $27 an hour. You can do many odd jobs, including answering phones, email handling, scheduling appointments, social media, researching, writing, or editing.

There are many options; it depends on the companies you work for and the help they need. You can determine your rates and what services you’re comfortable offering so you work within the realms you can handle.

8 legit online jobs using mobile phones without investment.

online jobs using mobile phones

Working remotely has changed my life for the better. A lot of you might not know this, but I manage US-based BPO company remotely in the last 7 years.

typing jobs using cell phone

1. Uber Driver

As an Uber driver , you are your own boss and work whenever you want. It’s an ideal job if you like driving and live in a major city where rideshare drivers are in demand.

All you need to be an Uber driver is a reliable car, a driver’s license, at least one year of driving experience, and a clean background check.

Everything is done through their driver app, which alerts you to opportunities, helps you plan your workday, and tracks your earnings. It also gives you turn-by-turn directions so you can easily navigate to your customers and their destinations.

How much you can earn as an Uber driver varies depending on many factors, including how much you work and where you are located. But according to  Salary.com , the median annual salary is $38,602.

If making money with your own vehicle is appealing, be sure to check out this list of apps for making money with your car !

2. DoorDash Driver

If you aren’t keen on shuttling people around from place to place but still like the idea of earning money by driving, then a food delivery service like  DoorDash  could be an excellent alternative for you.

It works very similarly to Uber, except instead of taxiing people, you transport takeout orders.

Like Uber, how much you can earn depends on how often and where you work, but with DoorDash, you’ll get a base pay rate, tips, and promotional opportunities.

Gigwalk  is a smartphone app that pays you for completing small, local tasks. The jobs usually involve going into a retail store to confirm product pricing and how they’re displayed. You simply snap a few photos of the products and send them in for approval.

Each job pays anywhere from $3-$100. So it’s not enough to make a full-time income but can certainly help bring in some extra cash, especially if you live in an area with a lot of retail stores.

Payments are issued through PayPal within two weeks of completing the job, although it’s usually within a few days.

4. Photographer

You don’t need to be a professional photographer to make money taking pictures. All you need is a good eye and your mobile phone’s camera!

With the  FOAP  app, you can upload photos you take on your phone and sell them for $10 a photo. The earnings are split 50/50 with FOAP, so you take home $5 per sale.

You can also participate in “Missions,” which require photos of specific products or subjects. Rewards for placing in these Missions range anywhere from $100-$500.

Although most Missions only have one winner, you can use “FOAP coins” to unlock Premium Missions that reward up to 60 winners.

You can obtain FOAP coins by watching ads within the app, taking surveys, or purchasing them on the FOAP website.

5. YouTuber

YouTube  is a massive platform and the second most visited website on the internet after Google. You can create your channel and upload videos that you take on your phone.

Once you build an audience of 1,000 subscribers and accrue 4,000 watch hours, you can monetize your channel via YouTube’s partner program.

Once part of the program, you can earn money with ads and sponsored videos. According to Intuit, ads pay roughly $18 per 1,000 ad views , and sponsored videos make around $10-$50 per 1,000 views.

6. Survey Taker

You’ll find no shortage of survey apps for your cell phone, many of which will compensate you for your time. Some of the best survey apps include Branded Surveys , Survey Junkie , Swagbucks , and InboxDollars .

With most of these apps, you earn points or in-app currency that you trade for gift cards or cash. For example, with  Survey Junkie , you earn up to 500 points for each survey you complete. Once you get 500 points, you can redeem your earnings for gift cards or $5 cash to your PayPal account.

You won’t get rich taking online surveys with these smartphone apps, but you can make up to a couple of hundred dollars a month if you’re consistent.

7. VarageSale

VarageSale  is an app that allows you to sell your old stuff in a virtual garage sale. It’s free to use, and signing up is as simple as downloading the app and connecting your Facebook account.

Once you have an account, you can join a local community and list your items at any price. You can sell old clothes, appliances, books, crafts, toys, and more.

Local buyers can find your posted items and reach out if they’re interested in purchasing.

After communicating with the buyer and settling on the details, you can reserve the item for them and arrange a place to meet where they will pay you with cash.

For other Android and iPhone apps where you can sell stuff online online, check out Poshmark and Mercari .

8. Instagram Influencer

With over a billion monthly active users,  Instagram  is one of the most popular social media platforms on the web. Instagram users with large audiences can become influencers and make money through sponsored posts and affiliate links.

Influencers with over 100k engaged followers can make hundreds of dollars for sponsored posts! You can find such sponsors using marketplaces like  Fohr ,  IZEA , and  Find Your Influence .

The key to making money as an influencer is consistently posting and engaging with your audience. Share interesting posts and photos that inspire or captivate your followers.

9. Instacart

As an  Instacart shopper , you get paid to grocery shop.

For this job, you need a dependable car and to be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Then, all you need to do to get started is install the shopper app and pass a quick background check.

After you get approved, the smartphone app connects you with customers who will pay you to pick out and deliver their groceries.

As a full-service shopper, you get to work when you want and are paid per completed batch. Earnings vary depending on the size of the grocery order and how far the delivery location is. Instacart shoppers also get to keep 100% of the customer’s tips. According to Upper, the average Instacart shopper makes around $13.88 per hour.

Still life: Working from home using a cell phone

10. Bambino

Bambino  is a babysitting app that connects parents with sitters. With the app, you can connect with parents, receive babysitting requests, and get paid through Venmo or direct deposit.

To get started, you’ll need at least one babysitting recommendation from a parent, although they don’t have to be a parent who uses Bambino. You can also get a background check to increase trust and win more jobs.

When you receive a request, you’ll get details on the date, time, number of kids you’re sitting for, and other important information. Once you accept the job and complete the sitting, you’ll get paid through Venmo or direct deposit.

11. Pet-Sitter and Dog Walker

If you have a passion for animals, use the Rover app to make money caring for pets. With Rover , you can connect with pet owners who need dog walking, pet sitting, drop-in, and boarding services for pets big and small. To make money using Rover, download the app to your phone, and fill out your online profile. You’ll need to pay a $25 fee for a background check, but once you’re approved, you’ll be able to provide services by creating your own schedule and setting your own prices. According to Glassdoor , the average walker/sitter earns $16-$25 per hour, as Rover takes a 20-25% fee from your earnings.

12. Market Research

With market research gigs, you can earn an average of $50-$150 per hour participating in focus group studies . Companies like FocusGroup.com and User Interviews , allow you to create an account right from your mobile phone. Studies are conducted in a variety of formats, including telephone interviews, video interviews, online surveys, testing products, and in-person studies.

Participating in focus groups won’t provide a steady monthly income, but it is an excellent way to save for a dream vacation, pay down debt, or build your savings. To make the most of these opportunities, I suggest signing up with multiple platforms and creating a separate email account just for these gigs, as you’ll get a lot of emails once you sign up.

13. Telephone Mystery Shopper

You’ve probably heard of mystery shopping gigs where individuals go to stores as undercover patrons and report to the company on the customer service they received. Well, visiting stores isn’t the only way to make money as a mystery shopper; some companies use telephone mystery shoppers to gauge how well their employees are performing on the phone.

Companies like Confero hire independent contractors as shoppers and auditors to evaluate establishments. Once you register as a shopper on their site, you can choose which projects to work on (in person, by telephone, or web). After you complete your evaluation and submit your report, you’ll receive payment via PayPal.

14. TikTok Creator

Whether you want to be a social media influencer or a user-generated content (UGC) creator , TikTok is an excellent way to make money on your mobile phone. With TikTok, you film your content directly in the app, and they have all the editing tools built right in, so there is nothing extra you need to purchase. As long as you have a reliable phone, internet connection, and some great ideas, you’re good to go!

With TikTok , you can build your following and make money through the TikTok creator fund, marketplace, tips, gifts, affiliate marketing, sponsorships, and more. And if you don’t want to build your own following, you can create TikTok videos for brands as a UGC creator.

The great thing about content creation is creators can repurpose their content from one platform and post it to others like YouTube Shorts, Pinterest Idea Pins, and Facebook and Instagram Reels. To learn more about how to make money with content creation, check out this informative article .

15. App Tester

If you enjoy testing things out, sign up to become a website and app tester with UserTesting . They accept users from around the world to test websites and smartphone applications for companies. For each test you take, you’ll earn a set amount of money:

  • 5-minute test pays $4
  • A 20-minute test pays $10
  • Live interviews pay between $30-$120

To test products with UserTesting, you’ll need an updated device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) that meets their tech requirements. Payments are distributed via PayPal seven days after you complete the gig. These opportunities are sporadic, so you may want to sign up with multiple website testing companies for increased earnings.

16. Steady App

Another mobile phone job to explore is the  Steady App . To make money with Steady, download the app to your mobile device (it’s available for iOS and Android devices) and answer some questions about your skills and experience. With the app, you can set up job alerts for companies hiring near you, earn extra cash with income boosters, and track your progress from the app. On average, Steady users earn an average of $5,500 in annual income with the app. To receive payments, you’ll need to connect your bank account to the Steady app using Plaid. Steady receives a 3.8-star rating from Trustpilot.

COVID-19 Created a New World of Remote Work

The COVID-19 pandemic was a turning point for the whole world. It has created a culture of rapid digital transformation, with companies finding ways their employees can work from home or work remotely, as storefronts had to close due to the pandemic and lockdowns that ensued. Nowadays, having the ability to work remotely isn’t just a far-off dream, but something that many younger people have come to expect.

Therefore, many people have since moved their careers online. Now, you can earn your living and work from home using your cell phone by having a profile on job aggregator platforms like Jooble . More professional and educational opportunities have become affordable thanks to high-speed Internet. People can study topics such as graphic design, production of applications for Android phones, and even video games from the comfort of their own home, completely remotely.

The list of potential side-hustle job opportunities has also grown to become longer and more diverse. One can start working in jobs such as tech support or video chat moderation. Another well-paying part-time job is working with affiliate links. You could also become a freelance writer, deal with payment details as an outsource accountant, or do outbound calls. The opportunities are really endless, and the sky’s the limit. It is a fantastic time to enter the world of remote work!

Better yet, there are ways to work remote using just your smartphone! Do you want to learn the best ways how to make more money with your phone? Continue reading this blog, where I’ll document some job opportunities using just your phone.

Work From Home Jobs Using Your Cell Phone

There is no better time to turn your phone into a money-making machine! Earning money using your phone comes with little or no extra cost, as so many people already have and use a smartphone every day. Successful tech-savvy people advise maximizing already available resources to earn more, where you can earn money with your mobile phone just on the side, without interrupting other daily activities.

Below are some examples of such job opportunities:

Become a Social Media Manager

Do you love connecting on social media, taking pretty pictures and trying out the newest social media trends (such as Instagram reels)? You could become a social media manager!

Over the years, social media has evolved from a messaging and entertaining platform into a place people use to promote themselves and their businesses. The social media industry created many sought-after jobs, including social media management, one of the most popular ones.

Thanks to Facebook or Instagram and other resources, people manage their online presence in these social media spaces and increase the visibility of their services. A social media manager helps them reach out to the target audience and creates a match between the services being offered and customers looking for these services, often working with social media influencers within the same niche.

Have you ever wondered why even the tiniest grocery story cares so much about obtaining good reviews? If people are unsatisfied with the service and quality of the products, they are likely to scare off other customers by warning them about their bad experience. Thus, caring about your image on the Internet is vital for various sectors, be it mobile gaming companies, local winery shops, or the best platforms for trade and goods exchange.

Social Media Management is a job you can do easily on your phone. You just need a device with a high-quality camera and a mobile data connection. Social Media Management is very lucrative and can even generate a healthy 6 figures per year, especially if you work as your own agency and take on multiple clients.  Although the hourly rate might differ dramatically depending on your skills and prior experience (obviously, college students will earn less than experienced social media managers working with a famous actor); however, the market offers dozens of awesome options to start and earn professional recognition.

The rate of online shopping has increased drastically over the years. It has opened up new opportunities for people that wish to sell products, whether digital or physical, without actually having to open up a physical store.

If you google the word ‘’e-commerce’’, the variety in search results will surprise you. People are constantly looking online for things you couldn’t even imagine before. It might take them a long time to find the appropriate product, but the Internet has made finding exactly the items we’re looking for easier than ever. And that’s where you come in! Why not open up your own e-commerce store, focusing on your own talents and interests and turning them into products?

You could sell digital products, such as e-books or online guides, where you teach others about a subject you’re an expect in (or really just know a lot about and have a passion for). Or, if you’re the creative type, you could sell digital products on Etsy, such as Photoshop or Canva templates, digital planner designs, pre-made logo designs, etc. Or, you could choose to sell physical products online, such as jewellery, teeshirts designs, etc. You could set up your own ecommerce website using platforms such as Shopify – the options are endless, and there’s never been a better time to enter the space!

Dabbling in E-commerce is another great opportunity to earn extra money in your spare time, and you can build on it as you grow, offering more and more products for sale as you learn your audience and their wants. It doesn’t require a college degree (however, a relevant education in e-comm can of course help to achieve more).

Apart from selling items online, you will need to answer clients’ questions about the products you offer. Therefore, learn more about them and brush up on your sales and marketing skills to provide people with high-quality and relevant information. Your knowledge and previous experience will increase sales.

You can now easily upload your goods online through your phone and start getting customers who will buy products from you. You can engage with your customers (and potential leads) via social media and use this interaction to generate more traffic to your online store and leads pages. The opportunities for growth here are endless, and I encourage you to think outside of the box!

Test Others’ Mobile Apps

Mobile apps are becoming more and more of a thing in the world of mobile devices, and every day, more companies are putting out apps for their businesses. However, no company will release an app without plenty of prior testing being completed by real users. This is where the role of the professional app tester comes in!

You can start making money using just your phone by helping mobile app developers test their digital products. One can earn over $80,000 a year doing this job! Even the best companies (with the strictest requirements towards their employees) look for people who are ready to examine their tech products (for instance, Field Agent app, etc.). Although you can find relevant job postings online, you can also find a job in mobile app testing by simply asking around to your best friends or relatives if they know someone developing an app, or who is working for product IT companies. Thus, you will know for sure who to contact about becoming an app tester for their company!

Take Surveys Online

Another way to earn money through your phone is by taking paid surveys. People create online surveys to collect other people’s opinions on a particular topic around an idea their business is interested in. You can get paid for providing specialists with the information that will help to improve products, services, or even scientific research.

It is very usually quick and straightforward to take a survey. You can use your personal mobile device and do this job with your own schedule and without leaving home. People earn an average of $0.5 for one quick survey session, but each company may have their own varying rates. If you are a lucky and hard-working survey taker, you might earn up to $3000 monthly for providing your priceless opinion, experience and information.

The range of questions and formats available during survey-taking is vast. It might include online surveys about customer services or topics social media influencers should cover in their blogs. Neurophysiologists might need you for a video interview about your daily routine, habits, or how you would learn a new language. Alternatively, you may also process phone calls from large brands that perform profound market research and learn their potential targeted audience better. In this case, a reliable smartphone is everything you need! Either way, it’s a great way to earn extra money without investing too much time. And another big perk of surveys is that you take part during your business hours and spare time – it’s not a full-time job where your hourly pay doesn’t vary, and you can work as much or as little as you want.

Provide Translation Services

Do you speak more than one language? You could become a professional translator!

A job in online translation usually involves typing, which might make it difficult for some people to do it on the phone. However, some people are very comfortable typing on their phones, even when they have to do this task for hours! A reliable phone is a must for all specialists in the sphere, or you could of course choose to work from your computer.

You can earn between $30,000 to $60,000 per year as a professional translator. These specialists have to master their skills all the time to stay fluent in both languages. You’ll need to stay up to date with the languages you speak to excel in this job, so as soon as you start losing confidence in one of them, it’s better to put the work on hold and plunge into learning again, then return where you left off!

As an additional income, translation service jobs pay very well. However, if you turn this idea into a full-time job, the outcome may surprise even your boldest expectations!

Become an Online Tutor

The COVID-19 pandemic has made the world realize how well we can still communicate without seeing one another in person. Another major industry that has moved online is the world of education. You can now find people exploring the internet to acquire formal education and obtain the proper certification, without ever having to leave their house! More and more online programs are popping up, and the industry is booming.

However, becoming a professional tutor requires that you are knowledgeable (and sometimes, professionally certified) in whatever field you major in. All you need to get started is a phone with a good camera, audio quality, and a stable internet connection and you can be providing online tutoring services!

Tutoring online is a very lucrative business. You can expect to earn as much as $80,000 per year as an online tutor, so if you have a skill or designation that might work well in the online tutoring space, start exploring!

Use Your Smartphone to Take Gorgeous Photography

Photography is a very lucrative job that has been around for decades! And it’s a ton of fun, too (but of course, I’m slightly biased…)

In today’s world, there’s a great interest for people to document their life and events, and for brands to want to use user-generated content to promote their products and services, hence the need for photographers to provide beautiful photos to match these goals.

However, photography has recently moved away from the era of expensive professional SLR cameras and other large, fancy, expensive imagery gadgets and accessories. Smartphones today provide stunning photo and video quality, sometimes even rivalling some professional photography career. It’s becoming incredibly common for creators to now take pictures with their smartphones, even professionally.

Do you have an eye for photography and an interest in learning how to make money from this skill professionally? Then a job as a photographer might be right up your alley!

Try Out Vlogging and YouTubing

Are you full of ideas and useful information that you can share to the world through casual-format, personal video? If your answer is yes, you might be one step away from earning lots of money with your phone by diving into the exciting world of vlogging!

Most vlog content is informal and personal in nature, as if you’re talking to a friend instead of the camera, so it can be a lot of fun to shoot, as it definitely doesn’t have to be “perfect”!

Video content has become more and more popular over the years – many people choose to watch vlogs instead of reading written blogs, turning to YouTube anytime they are looking for information or entertainment. And what’s more – you don’t need fancy camera equipment. You can shoot, edit and post your videos right from your phone!

If you decide to become a vlogger, you can choose from vlog topics that are simple, such as your daily life, to more complex issues, or even tutor people through vlogging and YouTube! Choose the best niche for you and your interests and skills, and your passion and expertise will shine through naturally.

Vlogging can be very profitable; a top YouTuber might make over $100,000 per annum. They can earn even more by advertising people’s brands on their channels through sponsored content. Or, you could even be hired by an external company to do their vlogging content for them. More and more companies are understanding the value of having plenty of engaging video content for their brand, which means there’s plenty of work for budding vloggers!

If you’ve thought about vlogging, now is a perfect time to try your hand at it. Your hard work and dedication to vlogging can definitely pay off as you grown your YouTube channel and earn more and more from YouTube ads, sponsorships, etc.

Apps and Sites that Pay You for Completing Tasks

In addition to earning money online without leaving your home, some platforms also reward users for completing tasks for them. These tasks are usually simple and easy. Users can earn money through the traffic they drive to their sites, advertisement gigs they get, and also from the tasks they complete. This can be profitable remote work that you can perform anywhere with just your phone.

Below are some of the sites and what you can do for them to earn some extra cash:

Gigwalk is a mobile app that enables you to earn money by completing tasks. It allows you to see the available functions in your area by pinning them.

Tasks that you can do on Gigwalk include going to a nearby store and taking pictures of a product, inspecting displays and retail products presentations, and answering questions about the products.

Gigwalk is easy to use and does not invade your privacy. You only need your phone and the Gigwalk app to earn money. Gigwalkers make between $3 to $10 per task and are paid via Paypal.

Foap is an app that allows you to make money from your photos. With the Foap app, you can easily upload an image you took with your phone and make money from it when someone buys the picture.

The average earning per photo on Foap is $5. However, you can make more money by taking up missions on Foap. Each task pays $50 for a winning image.

Bambino is an app that helps people make money by finding babysitting jobs. If you love children and want to explore babysitting jobs, you can leverage this platform to earn extra cash while doing what you enjoy.

This app also allows babysitters to communicate with prospective clients to finalize the deal and get the required information to get started.

Varagesale is another application to earn a side income from. VarageSale is an online garage where you can upload pictures of car-related items and get them sold online. For example, you can make money by selling car parts on VarageSale.

VarageSale is legitimate and safe. It requires that all its customers are registered and verified, so you can rest assured that no one will disappear with your money.

Swagbucks is another good option to earn some extra cash. On Swagbucks, you are required to take surveys, complete other tasks, and earn points, known as SB. For example, 100 SB is equivalent to $1. You can then redeem your winnings for gift cards or cash in your PayPal and prepaid visa card.

Sweatcoin is an app that rewards you with points and encourages your fitness and wellness journey. You earn points on Sweatcoin based on the number of steps you take daily. You can then redeem these gift points or donate them to a charity. It is rare to get cash withdrawals on Sweatcoin, but you can use your points to purchase something you need.

Conclusion about work from home jobs using your cell phone:

Let’s admit that nowadays, the cost of basically everything has gone up, and often, income from a day job is simply not enough to live comfortably.

However, the goodness is that we also live in the day and age where many people have access to a smartphone already. The mobile phone that you already own and are familiar with can help you create a steady stream of extra income that will enable you to sustain yourself, save for the future, and attain financial freedom earlier.

The impressive features of smartphones mean that you don’t always require a computer anymore to do many work-at-home jobs. There are numerous side hustle options! As you’ve read above, many of these jobs can also include different tasks for people with little to no experience.

Companies that require app testers, Instacart shoppers, and survey takers are ready to pay immediately. They don’t often perform a background check or make you sign complicated contracts, making starting these types of jobs quick and easy.

Let’s also not forget about other side jobs that don’t require mobile phones. If you have a reliable car, delivery jobs can exceed your average expected pay dramatically, as the world tends more and more towards convenience everyday.

So, whether you are looking to earn some passive income or a viable home-based career without prior work experience, there are several options you can explore with just a few clicks on your personal phone. Become the next Caitlin Pyle, strengthen your financial condition, and offer a new, different way to increase your income.

A new, convenient online job that you love might be just around the corner. Good luck!

Thanks to the rise in technology, now more than ever there are so many jobs you can do from your phone.

Whether your job isn’t quite paying you enough, or you want to make a bit of extra cash in your spare time, there are lots of great smartphone jobs that may be worth your time.

That’s why this post is covering 15 of the best work from phone jobs and phone side hustles you can use to make extra cash.

Table of Contents

The Best Online Jobs Using Your Phone

Some of the phone jobs in this post involve working completely from your phone, so you never have to leave your home. In contrast, some are high paying apps like delivery apps or other types of apps to make quick cash .

I’ve personally been using these sorts of work from phone jobs to make extra money for years ever since my time in college. And here are some of my favorite options:

1. Customer Support Agent

There are various customer support agent opportunities that allow you to work from home, primarily using your phone. A customer support agent provides information and responds to inquiries about a company’s goods or services.

According to Indeed , customer service representatives in the United States earn $18.82 per hour on average .

Customer service rep hourly pay

You can find customer service rep positions on various employment search engines such as indeed.com and various remote job websites as well. FlexJobs is also an awesome freelance job board I’ve used in the past to find gigs.

Many major corporations like Amazon and Walmart also hire for this type of work from phone job. And you can also look for jobs on Upwork if you’re a beginner.

Alternatively, you can also specialize in a type of customer support, like being a tech support agent or live chat operator for a certain company.

2. Survey Taker

If you want to make money online as a beginner , one excellent online job using your phone you can try is to answer surveys for money .

I’ve been using these types of gpt sites and money-making apps ever since college. And I like survey apps since you can make money on your phone while you’re taking the bus, relaxing at home, or are on the go.

Some of my favorite survey sites I’ve cashed out with before include :

  • Branded Surveys : An easy way to get free PayPal money and gift cards in your spare time.
  • Swagbucks : This platform pays you for completing surveys, playing trivia for money , shopping, watching ads , and more.
  • Freecash : A new rewards website with hundreds of money-making offers at any given time.
  • Survey Junkie : Another popular survey website with a low $5 cash out minimum.
  • InboxDollars : Answer surveys for money and enjoy an instat $5 sign up bonus with InboxDollars.
  • Kashkick : This site lets you answer surveys and play games for PayPal money .
  • Pinecone Research : One of the highest paying survey sites in the United States.

I made a YouTube video that covers some of my favorite survey sites and apps that I’ve used over the years if you want even more ideas.

Granted, this isn’t the most lucrative job you can do with your phone. But for an easy way to make money on the side, these apps and websites get the job done.

3. Play Games On Your Phone

Another popular category of online phone jobs are apps that pay you for playing games . And if you spend a lot of time already playing games on your phone, this is the perfect job for you.

Gaming reward apps are all the rage these days. And I’ve been testing and making money with them for years.

Several leading apps in this space you can try include :

  • Mistplay : This Android app lets you earn PayPal money and gift cards for trying new games.
  • Cash Giraffe : Another Android gaming app with a low $0.20 cash out minimum.
  • Money Well : This free app lets you earn cash and gift cards for playing new games.
  • Bubble Cash : A leading iPhone game that pays you for winning bubble arcade games.
  • JustPlay : One more Android gaming app with PayPal cash prizes.
  • Rewarded Play : A popular app like Mistplay that lets you win free gift cards!

Bubble Cash app

Bubble Cash and Cash Giraffe are my favorite apps at the moment. But you can combine these apps to try as many new games as possible to maximize your earnings.

4. Food Delivery Driver

Food delivery gigs are incredibly popular these days. And if you have access to a car, bike, or scooter, you can sign up for plenty of gigs apps if you’re 18 or older.

Some of the most popular delivery gigs you can consider include :

  • Uber Eats : A globally popular food delivery app that’s in over 6,000 cities.
  • DoorDash : The leading food delivery app in North America.
  • Grubhub : A popular gig like Uber Eats you can also use for a flexible side hustle.
  • Shipt : This gig pays you to shop for groceries and then deliver them to people.
  • Instacart : A way to get paid to shop for people’s groceries that’s similar to Shipt.

I also like this work from phone job since if you deliver with your bike, you’re basically getting paid to workout . And delivering during meal times can mean high-paying orders and decent tips.

Sign up for Uber Eats   and DoorDash!

Out of all the jobs you can do from your phone, blogging is one with the highest income potential.

Now you won’t be writing blog posts from your phone since that’s way too time-consuming. But there’s a  lot  of blog tasks you can manage from your phone, like posting on social media or taking photos for your blog.

And this is important work that can generate serious income. As a personal example, I’ve been blogging for over 5 years now, and This Online World made $272,000 in 2022 .

Much of this income came from Mediavine ads and from affiliate marketing. And these days, This Online World makes $500 a day or more in just advertising revenue alone.

Mediavine 500 a day

But bloggers also make money with things like sponsored posts, selling courses or coaching, and offering their own products.

And, once your blog is a bit established and has regular readers, it somewhat makes money on autopilot . Plus, you can begin outsourcing tasks you don’t enjoy as the blog generates revenue.

6. Resell Stuff Online For Profit

Another excellent way to make money from your smartphone is to buy and resell merchandise for profit.

Now, this type of retail arbitrage isn’t a traditional work from your phone job. But it is an easy side hustle to start. The idea is to buy popular products like electronics, clothing, toys, and home goods from discount aisles at stores like Walmart and Kohl’s.

From there, you can resell the products online at a markup to basically flip your money .

Some of the best apps you can use to sell stuff from your phone include :

  • Facebook Marketplace : An excellent app to sell just about anything in your area for fast cash.
  • Mercari : One of the leading smartphone apps for selling stuff.
  • Poshmark : A leading app for reselling clothing, watches , accessories, shoes , and jewelry.
  • OfferUp : Another popular selling app like the Facebook Marketplace.
  • SidelineSwap : The best way to sell used sports equipment and apparel.
  • Worthy : One of the best ways to sell watches, jewelry, wedding rings , and diamonds online.

It might take a while to grow your inventory so you’re consistently making sales. But it’s possible if you put in the effort, and I have a few friends who buy and resell clothing and thrift shop finds to make money online.

If you value flexibility and live in the United States, the free Steady app should definitely be on your phone.

This gig economy app helps connect you with side hustles and jobs that suit your skills. All you have to do is download the app, answer a short questionnaire, and then you get matched with different income opportunities that are a good fit .

Steady gig app

Examples of phone gigs you can find with Steady include:

  • Lucrative  sign up bonuses
  • Driving gigs like  DoorDash or Instacart
  • Local part-time jobs
  • Online survey and gaming reward apps
  • Other gig economy jobs that require having a smartphone

According to its website, the average Steady member earns an additional $5,500 per year! And I like that the app matches you to gigs based on factors like having a car or how many hours you have per week to work.

If Steady doesn’t work out for you, you can also check out apps like TaskRabbit to find even more local gig opportunities.

8. Social Media Influencer

Social Media Influencer opportunities have grown dramatically in the past couple of years. After all, influencer marketing is a significant part of many brands’ marketing strategies.

In the past, being an influencer was only possible for celebrity figures. But now, with the rise of social media, you don’t need to be famous to be an influencer .

Micro-influencers, bloggers, and content creators are all over Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. These individuals have become successful by focusing on a niche they are passionate about and creating content on this topic to establish a social media following.

You don’t necessarily need a million followers to be successful. Some micro-influencers have seen success as an influencer with as little as 5,000 followers. What matters most is that you are creating content that people engage with.

In fact, a micro-influencer that has between 5000-50,000 followers can make up to a few thousand dollars for sponsored posts. Influencers with larger followings can charge well over $10,000 per post.

9. Teach English Online

Palfish is another excellent job you can do with your phone where you can teach English to non-native speakers.

This particular app is best if you have a background in teaching since it requires having a certification in teaching (TEFL, TESOL, or Teacher’s certificate).

PalFish tutor

However, anyone can get the TESOL certificate. It is a 120-hour course that you complete at your own pace. Investing into this certification may be worth the tutoring opportunities it will open up.

Palfish lets you make your own lessons and set your own rates. Just note you might not want to set your rate too high, as you may not get many students. On average, teachers set their rates between $12 to $17 USD.

You can also read our posts on the best tutoring jobs for teens and tutoring jobs for college students for even more options!

10. Gigwalk

Gigwalk is a mystery shopping app that hires people to help brands learn more about their consumers’ experience.

You can see all the local gigs and apply for the jobs that interest you. Some common Gigwalk gigs include mystery shopping work, retail audits, QSR audits, safety checks, and just rating nearby stores.

According to Gigwalk, a gig can take anywhere between 5 minutes to a few hours to complete and pay can range between $3-$100 depending on the gig.

The average pay is between $5-$15 per gig. When you complete a job, you get paid with PayPal money . You can’t quit your job with Gigwalk. But if you want a fun online phone job while you’re out and about, it’s the perfect app.

Premise and Field Agent are two more mystery shopping gigs you can also check out if you like Gigwalk. Mobee is also a similar app worth downloading.

11. Dog Walker

If you’re still looking for jobs you can do with your phone, you can always try walking dogs for money by using apps like Rover .

This free gig app helps pet owners get help with their dogs and other animals. As a Rover gig worker, you can offer services like walking, pet sitting, and drop-in visits to make money in your spare time .

Rover walker

What’s nice about Rover is that you set the hours and days you’re available. And, you manage everything with your smartphone, from booking clients to getting paid.

Rover also lets you choose the types of animals you work with. You even set your hourly rates, so you’re essentially your own boss.

12. App & Website Tester

App testing gigs are a classic gig you can consider. And these gigs are a lot of fun since you get to try out new apps that are still in development to help them improve.

PlaytestCloud is a reputable platform that connects you to developers looking for quality assurance on their apps.

PlaytestCloud

It’s suitable for all types of gamers, from casual to hardcore. You get paid about $10 per test. And you get paid regardless of whether you liked the game or not. All you have to do is try it out and share your honest feedback.

Website testing gigs like Userlytics , TestingTime , and TryMyUI are similar work from phone jobs you can apply to as well.

13. Market Research Gigs

Did you know companies and researchers are willing to pay for your feedback and opinions?

Welcome to the exciting world of market research gigs! This is a fun way to earn cash and free gift cards in exchange for taking part in focus groups and studies.

I recently earned $65 for a 45-minute study I found on User Interviews . You can also find studies on websites like Respondent , and some studies let you take part right from your phone.

14. Amazon Flex Driver

Amazon Flex is another great side gig you can do from your phone. This Amazon delivery program lets you use your own vehicle to deliver packages. And it’s one of the highest paying driving gigs out there.

Amazon-Flex-driver

You deliver packages in 3 to 6 hour blocks, and Amazon provides you with the routes to take. According to Amazon Flex, most drivers earn $18-25 an hour.

It can be tough to get enough Amazon Flex blocks since competition is intense between drivers to claim them. But even a few shifts a week can be a couple extra hundred dollars per month in income.

And you can read our post on the best jobs like Amazon Flex to find even more driving gigs you can add in your routine.

15. Photographer

You need a professional camera to start a photography business. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make money from smartphone photos and videos.

For example, companies like Foap let you license the photos and videos right from your smartphone. It works with massive brands and looks for user-generated content (UGC) these brands can use.

This is an exciting way to earn passive income just by taking photos of things in your everyday life. And you can try similar gigs and join various UGC marketplaces, or try influencer marketing on platforms like TikTok, all from your phone!

16. Goshare

GoShare is a company that pays you to help their customers who need drivers or movers.

According to GoShare, they pay some of the highest rates per hour in the industry. Their average earnings depend on the type of vehicle you have access to, but on average you can make $47 per hour plus tips.

GoShare-make-money-driving

It’s hard to find steady work with this platform. But if you have a cargo van or truck , it’s a great way to make quick money on the side. And for a similar gig, you can also try out Roadie !

Tips For Finding Work From Phone Jobs

Now that you know some of the best jobs you can do on your phone, here are a few tips you can use to land jobs more easily.

  • Use Mobile Job Apps : There are plenty of job apps out there you can use to find extra work. For example, JobGet lets you apply to in-person and remote jobs right from your phone. And apps like Steady help you find local gig opportunities. Not all of these gigs involve working from your phone, but some do, and the other gigs also pay well.
  • Update Your Resume : When looking for work from your phone jobs, it’s important to have an updated resume for certain positions. So take an afternoon and add relevant experience to your resume before sending out a lot of applications.
  • Play To Your Strengths : Easy gigs like Branded Surveys   or mystery shopping apps are perfect for anyone. But some phone jobs require specialized skills or attention to detail. Play to your strengths when job searching and also try to find work that you enjoy so you don’t burn out!

3. Content Writing

Content writing is one of the most common online jobs you can do using your mobile phone.

What you’re reading right now is a form of content called blog posts. Since I’m a content writer, there were many times when I had to write using my phone.

You can use the Word app or any other similar apps to write content.

The most surprising thing about this online job is that you can do it all with just a smartphone!

Some platforms are entirely app-based, where you can start earning as an online English tutor today:

6. Transcription/Translation

Another fascinating online job using a phone would be transcription and translation services.

Transcription is an online job where you’ll listen to video or audio recordings and write what you hear. It’s just a way to transform video/audio to text.

Translation, on the other hand, is translating a language to another.

Both of these online jobs are easy to do, and you can do them on your phone!

Usually, graphic designers use tablets or computers to create illustrations.

But now that many graphic applications like Adobe Photoshop have apps now, you can do it all on your phone.

You can also use an app like Canva to design logos, banners, social media posts, and more!

You can then apply to UpWork, create Fiverr gigs, or search for local clients on Facebook.

8. Video Editing

Similar to being a graphic designer, video editors can also make money using their phones.

There are thousands of free video editing apps that you can use today to earn money.

These include apps like:

  • AlightMotion
  • PowerDirector

But before you edit videos using your phone, you first need to make sure that you’re at least using a mid-tier one.

Editing takes a lot of resources and power, so a budget phone may not be able to do it.

In this section, you’ll know the pros and cons of doing online job using phone.

But don’t be discouraged when you see the cons because many successful freelancers started with phones!

  • You don’t need to spend any money on any equipment – unless you don’t have a phone
  • You can work anywhere and anytime (even in the bathroom)
  • Start immediately. When you have a smartphone and internet, you can do almost any online job
  • You also don’t need to have an internet connection; mobile data is enough at times
  • You’ll have a hard time doing a full-time job, unlike when you’re using a computer
  • You can’t do other online jobs which require specific computer software like Blender, Time Doctor, and more
  • The job can take longer since you can’t multitask on phones

If you’re reading this section, it means that you’re determined to succeed even with just a phone!

I commend your bravery and passion since I, too, started with almost nothing but a borrowed laptop.

Now, I shall reward you with tips to help you succeed as a freelancer, even with just a phone.

  • Use free apps. When you’re using your phone, you can be creative. There are apps for erasing watermarks, editing, adding logos, and so on.
  • Turn off distractions when at work. Don’t let your social media apps, messages, or games distract you from working.
  • Don’t spend all your hard-earned money! Save at least some amount so you can buy a laptop/computer.
  • Never work while in bed.
  • Use your phone’s multitask feature if available – you can use two apps at once!

Three schoolboys leaving school with their teachers behind them. They are all holding mobile phones and smiling; they wear bright blue blazers, pale blue shirts and blue ties

Ministers confirm plan to ban use of mobile phones in schools in England

Teaching unions say guidance includes practices already adopted and most schools already have policies in place

Ministers have confirmed plans to ban the use of mobile phones in English schools, releasing guidance for headteachers that some unions said included practices that had already been widely adopted.

However, one headteacher welcomed the Department for Education (DfE) plan, saying it would help give schools the confidence to make a change that would benefit pupils but could meet resistance from parents.

The guidance is not statutory, and offers schools a variety of ways to implement the ban, ranging from an order to leave all phones at home, to handing them in on arrival or keeping them in inaccessible lockers, or allowing students to keep them on condition they are not used or heard.

The proliferation of smartphones in schools – Ofcom data says 97% of children have one by the age of 12 – has brought concerns about not just distraction but the potential for bullying or other social pressure.

In interviews on Monday about the plan, Gillian Keegan , the education secretary, said the DfE had consulted headteachers and believed the guidance would “empower” those yet to fully ban phones, and “would send a clear message about consistency”.

“You go to school, you go to learn, you go to create those friendships, you go to speak to people and socialise and you go to get educated – you don’t go to sit on your mobile phone or to send messages whilst you could actually talk to somebody,” she told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

There is also wider concern about phone use by children and the harmful content they can access. Esther Ghey, mother of the murdered teenager Brianna Ghey, has called for tech companies to do more on this, and for under-16s to be stopped from accessing social media.

Ghey has also argued for phone manufacturers to make specific products for under-16s that prevent them from accessing harmful content, after it emerged that her daughter’s killers viewed violent material before the murder.

Keegan told Today that while ministers would discuss the idea with Ghey, “it’s not something that we have actually looked at or considered and those conversations will take place”.

The 13-page DfE guidance says the policy on phones should be clearly communicated to pupils, with the reasons for it also explained. It adds that teachers should not be seen in schools using a phone except when necessary for work.

Parents also needed to be involved in the ban, it says, with a reminder that they should contact students via the school office rather than directly.

after newsletter promotion

Geoff Barton, the general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said that while the amount of time some children spend on phones was a worry, the new guidance was “a non-policy for a non-problem”.

He said: “This compulsive use of these devices is not something that is happening in schools – where robust polices are already in place – but while children are out of school. Most schools already forbid the use of mobile phones during the school day or allow their use only in limited and stipulated circumstances.”

Daniel Kebede, the general secretary of the National Education Union, said: “As most schools already have policies in place to deal with the problems of mobile phone use this guidance will make little difference and is a distraction from the many problems facing education.”

However, Vic Goddard, the executive principal of two schools in Esssex, including Passmores academy in Harlow, which featured in Channel 4’s Educating Essex series, said Passmores had recently imposed a complete ban on phones, which he said had been transformative, with a positive response from parents and students.

“We had very few parental issues, when we thought we would,” he said. “The students felt the social pressure had been removed from them. Without a doubt this guidance will help schools. The problem we have is that anything which might put us in conflict with parents is always going to be challenging.

“We have a generation of parents who weren’t born with phones. We thought that giving children a phone was keeping them safe, when the reality was it was opening them to a world of online harm and pressure.”

AT&T says cell service is back after a widespread outage and some disrupted 911 calls

A sign is posted in front of an AT&T retail store in 2021 in San Rafael, Calif.

AT&T says it has fully restored cellphone service to tens of thousands of customers in cities across the country whose phones lost signal overnight, causing frustration and concern about disruptions to 911 dispatches.

The FBI, in a statement Thursday afternoon, said the agency was "in contact with AT&T regarding today's network outage. Should we learn of any malicious activity we will respond accordingly."

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby also referred to the outage as he addressed reporters on Thursday. Kirby said the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) were looking into the outage. He said the Federal Communications Commission was also in touch with AT&T.

"But the bottom line is we don't have all the answers," he said.

Around 3:30 a.m. ET Thursday, outages reported by downdetector.com suddenly spiked from just a handful, peaking at more than 73,000 by around 8:20 a.m. ET.

Why do doctors still use pagers?

Planet Money

Why do doctors still use pagers, "we sincerely apologize".

By late afternoon Eastern time, AT&T said it had "restored wireless service to all our affected customers."

"We sincerely apologize to them," the company said in an email to NPR. "Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future."

Kirby said the Department of Commerce faced some disruptions as a result of the outage but those were not "crippling."

Earlier, Downdetector said that Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Chicago, Indianapolis, New York, Miami and Charlotte reported the highest number of outages. Houston had more than 2,000 reports by about 8:30 a.m. ET, while New York reported about 1,300.

However, service disruptions caused concern Thursday morning even outside those areas, with the San Francisco Fire Department announcing on X , formerly Twitter, that it was "aware of an issue impacting AT&T wireless customers from making and receiving any phone calls (including to 911)."

"We are actively engaged and monitoring this. The San Francisco 911 center is still operational. If you are an AT&T customer and cannot get through to 911, then please try calling from a landline. If that is not an option then please try to get ahold of a friend or family member who is a customer of a different carrier and ask them to call 911 on your behalf. Do not call or text 911 to simply test your phone service," the department said.

A survey conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics found in 2022 that nearly 71% of adults and 82% of children lived in wireless-only households.

Even if a cellular service provider is down, anyone with a cellphone can still place an emergency call or text, according to 911.gov . "However, calls to 911 on phones without active service do not deliver the caller's location to the 911 call center, and the call center cannot call these phones back to find out the caller's location or the nature of the emergency. If disconnected, the 911 center has no way to call back the caller," the website says.

Jared Juliano, assistant director for Prince William County Department of Public Safety Communications in Virginia, says 911 service there was never really disrupted, but calls coming in from AT&T phones did not have location information or what he describes as an "advanced caller ID."

988: An Alternative To 911 For Mental Health

988: An Alternative To 911 For Mental Health

However, he says 911 dispatchers "always verify a location even when we get locations from these numbers."

Police in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area in North Carolina said customers were "briefly unable to contact 9-1-1. There are no disruptions to our call center's ability to receive 9-1-1 calls. Service should be returning shortly."

Other providers reported business as usual

The outage did not appear to have any real impact on other providers. Verizon said its network was "operating normally."

"Some customers experienced issues this morning when calling or texting with customers served by another carrier," a company statement said.

Likewise, T-Mobile said in a statement that its network "is operating normally."

The outages occurred around the same time as a solar flare, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The agency said the flare — "an eruption of energy from the Sun that usually lasts from minutes to hours" — reached Earth at 1:32 a.m. ET.

NOAA says such flares can affect high-frequency radio signals, but only on the sunlit side of Earth.
