12 Easy Entrepreneurship Activities For Any Class (Plus 3 Free Lessons)

1. The Envelope Exercise

For this activity, print fake money and place small amounts in envelopes for individuals or small groups of students. You can choose to give everyone different amounts of money or keep it all equal. Explain that your students’ goal is to increase their investment — and in doing so, use the collaboration and critical thinking skills that are important in entrepreneurship.

Give students 20 to 30 minutes to brainstorm before having each individual or group share their ideas. Odds are high that they will be surprised by how easy it is for them to make money!

2. Defining Problems Exercise

Entrepreneurs find solutions to problems they see in the world . This means that the ability to clearly define problem s is important in entrepreneurship careers . To help students build this skill, s how them pictures that depict issues (like the one below) and ask them to define the problems they can see.

Next, ask the students what information they would need to help define the problem better . They’ll want to start coming up with solutions right away but challenge them to focus on clearly defining the issue before trying to resolve it.   

3. Ready, Set, Design!

For this exercise, divide students into groups and give each group a challenge such as thinking of a new way to drink on the go or a new method of communication; keep the challenge open ended. Give each group a bag of everyday materials such as rubber bands, pipe cleaners, and foil. Have students design a product based on the challenge.   

After 15 minutes, have each group present their design and explain why that product meets the challenge. The point of this activity is to get students thinking creatively without getting hung up on the details.  

4. The StartUp Podcast

The StartUp podcast is excellent for sparking conversations about entrepreneurship in class. It illuminates important concepts revolving around entrepreneurial life. You can have students listen to an episode for homework and then facilitate a class discussion on what stood out to them in the episode.

5. The Business Proposition

This activity will give students practice articulating a value proposition, which is a simple statement summarizing why a customer would choose your business or product. To get started, go over the definition of a value proposition and give students a brief faux business/product idea or have them come up with their own.   

Ask students to express their value proposition in a concise way. It may sound easy but keeping it brief can be challenging. This is a great exercise for helping students develop their entrepreneurial spirit.  

6. Wacky Ideas and 2-Minute Pitch

For this fun entrepreneurship activity, give students any two objects and have them brainstorm ways they can combine the objects into one invention. Then they must define the invention. Have them answer questions such as:  

  • What is it?  
  • What can it do?   
  • Who uses it?   
  • How could it be used differently?   

After defining the invention, students have two minutes to pitch it to the class. They should start by introducing themselves, the name of their company, and their invention. Once they’ve made their introductions, have them explain how their invention works and why people need it.

7. Reverse Brainstorming

In reverse brainstorming exercises, you take a problem and try to make it worse. This process allows you consider perspectives you may not have thought of before. An example problem you can present to students may be that they’re trying to study in the library, but people are being too loud in the hallway.   

Next, ask students how they can make the situation worse such as opening the library door, so the hallway commotion is louder. For every idea they come up with for how to make the situation worse, they then must find a solution for the issue. Problem solving and creative thinking are highly valued entrepreneurship skills, and this activity focuses on building both.  

8. Entrepreneurship Videos

There are tons of short, free videos online discussing all aspects of entrepreneurship. You can play one at the beginning of class to introduce students to the topic of entrepreneurship careers or have them watch the videos as homework. Below are a few examples of short videos you can use.

9. Entrepreneurial Mindset Cards

There are 24 entrepreneurial mindset cards from venturelab that help your students build entrepreneurship skills. Y ou can print the cards or u se the random card generator on the site to play their suggested games or any other game that you come up with . One of their suggested games starts with dealing a card to each student . Then h av e them take turns reading the mindset definition and answering the question on the card.

The CBSE has issued the syllabus of Class 11 Entrepreneurship for the 2022-23 session. The entrepreneurship subject is introduced in the curriculum to develop business acumen among young students. According to CBSE, Entrepreneurship is an academic subject with code 066. It is primarily a theoretical subject mainly chosen by students who prefer economics.

The class 11 Entrepreneurship syllabus includes: (a) Concept & Functions (b) An Entrepreneur and his Journey (c) Entrepreneurship as Innovation & Problem Solving (d) Understanding the Market, Business Finance & Arithmetic (e) Resource Mobilization.

CBSE Class 11th Entrepreneurship Subject (Code 066)

All the subjects’ question paper is divided into two major sections. Theoretical and practical assessments. The assessment scheme is similar for both Class XII and XI on the CBSE board.

In an era where people are trying to be job creators rather than job seekers, students are familiarized with the basic concepts of entrepreneurship through the foundational discipline of Business Studies. There are various interesting chapters of business studies class 11 syllabus which meticulously cover the intricate elements of starting a new business and understanding each and every component of enterpreneurship. The 9th chapter Small Business and Entrepreneurship encompasses the process followed for establishing small businesses. It also equips students with the knowledge of the building blocks that one needs to be a successful entrepreneur. The chapter starts with a story set in the backdrop of a city in Manipur. Khumbongmayum Dhanachandra Singh was the son of a poor tailor who couldn’t afford much education. The sole skill he possessed to earn a living was tailoring. But, even that couldn’t fetch him much. One day an accident happened which changed his life for the better. He stitched a beautifully designed purse from scratch which became popular. Slowly, his life changed and thus, lead to the foundation of the ‘Romi Bags’. The story simply conveys that sometimes it takes the simplest and tiniest business idea to create a successful entrepreneur. 

What is a Small Business?

Before understanding the basics of entrepreneurship, let’s first explore the meaning of a Small Business. The definition of small business is determined on the basis of investment in plant and machinery. There are small business units in both the manufacturing sector as well as the service sector. Here are the three main categories of small businesses:

Being a major contributor to regional development and economy as well as for export/import, the Government pays them back with various amenities like infrastructure, training, raw materials, and marketing. According to the chapter on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, some of the major Indian governmental organizations like NABARD, RSBDC, DIC, NSIC, RWED, SFURTI function for the betterment of small business development. 

Entrepreneurship is the process of setting up your business in a way that is distinct from others. It is a legal activity combined with innovation and systematic planning. It is the essence of delivering value to customers in return for the profits reaped. The entrepreneur is the sole risk bearer of their actions. Proper knowledge of the business is a vital element for any entrepreneur. Businesses for entrepreneurs may differ according to their needs. For some, a business may be defined as a sole proprietorship whereas for some other it may be a partnership, a HUF, or even a Joint Stock company. The characteristics of entrepreneurship are as follows:

  • Systematic and purposeful activity
  • Legitimate activity
  • Involves creativity and thinking out of the box
  • Bringing together every aspect of production
  • Sole risk bearer

The ‘Startup India’ campaign was officially announced in 2015 welcoming budding entrepreneurs with the best idea to come forward. It was a major step towards leveraging successful entrepreneur small business ideas. Such great talents were given financial support for the setting up of their dream enterprise and also be a better contribution to the nation. This project is aimed at creating awareness on the benefits of businesses for entrepreneurs, render support to the weaker sections of the society on coming to the front line, and to sow the seeds of an entrepreneurial culture in the society. According to the chapter on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, the Startup India program has many benefits such as legal support, easy exiting, tax exemption, etc. The various manners of funding a start-up include bootstrapping, crowdfunding, angel investment, and venture capital, etc. However, there are certain conditions as well, and they are:

  • The entity must be registered in the Indian subcontinent.
  • It should be incorporated for five years.
  • The annual turnover of the entity shall not exceed Rs. 25 Lakh/
  • The business should be based on an innovative idea.

It is necessary to ensure you have obtained Intellectual Property Right over your business plan or idea. IPR comes in two different categories. The first categorization includes industrial design, geographical indications, and inventions. While the other categorization includes IPR on different forms of artistic works. CBSE provides the complete CBSE Syllabus for class 11 and class 12 . Even for the practicals and project work, the syllabus is predefined by CBSE. However, for the academic year 2023-24, CBSE has reduced some of the experiments and project work. CBSE has updated its syllabus this year and added some topics in its syllabus.

Project Work: From session 2023-24 onwards, there would be only ONE project (specific) to be prepared.

  • Preparation of Bank Reconciliation Statement with the given cash book and the pass book with twenty to twenty-five transactions.

Unit 3: Portfolio Assessment

  • Record of the entire years’ performance from sketch to finished product. (10 Marks)
  • Five selected nature and object study exercises in any media done during the session including a minimum of two still-life exercises. (05 Marks)
  • One selected work of paintings composition done during the year (03 Marks)
  • Two selected works of paintings done during the year (02 Marks) These selected works prepared during the course by the candidates and certified by the school authorities as the work done in the school will be placed before the examiners for assessment.
  • The candidates should be given one hour-break after first three hours.
  • The time-table to be so framed as to allow the students to work continuously for minimum of two periods at a stretch.
