Xfinity Mobile is the Best Kept Secret in Wireless – But the Secret’s Out

Xfinity Mobile is the best kept secret in wireless. But with almost six million lines added in only five years, it’s fair to say that the secret’s out. While switching mobile services can come with questions, it doesn’t need to be stressful. Let’s take a look at some of the questions that come to mind when people consider ditching their current carrier.

The biggest question is: why should I switch?

Three words: savings, speed and service. Bundling your Internet and mobile services saves you money on your wireless bill. Xfinity Internet customers who add Xfinity Mobile only pay for what they need, choosing either by the gig or an unlimited data plan option. Xfinity Mobile also has some of the most competitive pricing in the market, and families can mix-and-match depending on each person’s needs, with the flexibility to switch plans at any time during a billing cycle. You can check out all of Xfinity Mobile’s plans here .

Xfinity Mobile also consistently delivers on speed and service. It was rated the fastest mobile service with 5G and millions of WiFi hotspots in Comcast service areas by Ookla* and is one of the top-rated providers for customer satisfaction and value according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).

A wireless service is only as good as the network that powers it. So, is the network reliable?

Reliability is a key pillar of the entire Xfinity experience, and that extends to mobile service. Xfinity Mobile operates on the most reliable 5G network in America as a “mobile virtual network operator” (MVNO). This means customers get all the standard features they expect from the Big Three mobile providers – like 5G speeds, mobile hotspots, and never having to worry about dropped calls – but at Xfinity Mobile’s affordable price.

In addition to 5G, one of the most convenient features of Xfinity Mobile is the ability to connect to more than 22 million Xfinity hotspots across the country. Approximately 90 percent of Xfinity Mobile data traffic happens over WiFi, which means Xfinity Mobile customers use less data and save money by not eating into their data plan. By combining Xfinity WiFi with 5G from a leading network, Xfinity Mobile delivers an exceptional wireless experience.

Xfinity hotspots across the country

Are the plan options complicated?

Some mobile providers have complicated plans, offering half a dozen options that customers are locked into. Xfinity Mobile was built with simplicity in mind, offering either by the gig or unlimited options. For customers who use WiFi most of the time, Xfinity Mobile’s by the gig options are among the most competitive on the market, with plans starting at only $15. For those who need unlimited data, Xfinity Mobile offers three tiers: Unlimited Intro, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Premium.

Both by the gig and unlimited options offer unlimited talk and text. Families will enjoy multi-line pricing, meaning each person can choose the option that best suits their needs. And if customers find themselves streaming more than usual, it’s easy to switch between plans, even during a billing cycle.

Is it easy to make the switch?

It is. In fact, part of what makes Xfinity Mobile’s customer satisfaction so high is how easy it is to switch. Do you prefer the convenience of switching in your own home? Xfinity Mobile will ship your new SIM and walk you through how to set up an account. If you would rather have someone walk you through the process in person, a member of the Xfinity Mobile Switch Squad can handle every step for you at one of Xfinity’s stores, from swapping your SIM, porting your number, even breaking up with your previous carrier for you. And you can bring your own phone and phone number too.

And can you get the latest phones?

Absolutely. Xfinity Mobile offers the latest phones from all the major mobile device manufacturers. If you’re looking to upgrade Xfinity Mobile offers great deals on the latest devices, from iPhone to Samsung and Pixel. You can find the latest phone offers here .

Can you add your tablets or smartwatches to your plan?

Yes, and you have just as much freedom with your tablet as you do with your cell phone plan. Customers can sign up for either an unlimited or by the gig tablet plan, and can switch at any time during their billing cycle. Customers can also add wearable technology, like smartwatches, to an Xfinity Mobile plan for just $10 a month per device.

Does Xfinity Mobile offer any protection plans?

Smartphones have become essential to our daily lives. Keeping them connected and protected is a priority for most of us. And if something were to happen to them, we’d want fast, convenient options to repair or replace them, and at a low cost. Xfinity Mobile offers the Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan which provides unlimited same-day screen repairs, next business day replacement, the ability to upgrade a phone early with no upgrade fees, and unlimited live technical support for nearly any smart device in the home. This not only provides customers savings from having to pay full price to repair or replace a device but also the ability to make the most of all their smart devices.

Can you use your phone while you travel?

Customers can expect the same great Xfinity Mobile experience they get at home when they’re traveling abroad. If you plan to call or text home often and want to post pictures to social media, Xfinity Mobile’s Global Travel Pass is your best bet. For $10 a day per line, or $5 a day per line in Mexico and Canada, customers can get talk, text, and data in more than 170 countries. Xfinity Mobile also offers a pay as you go option, paying only for the calls, texts, and data customers use abroad. Just make sure your device is enabled for international data roaming and you’re good to go. More on our international plans here .

Xfinity Mobile has built a different kind of mobile network – one that’s built for the way people want to use mobile today. With a reliable network, competitive pricing, and flexibility that puts Xfinity Mobile customers in control, it’s clear to see why millions have made the switch. Visit Xfinity Mobile to learn more about the best kept secret in wireless.

If you use Xfinity, you may be pleased to know that they cover the usual damage or loss/theft, but the service fees can be high.

So, is the Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan worth it? We’ll explore that in the article below.

Key Takeaways_

  • While primarily a cable TV company, Xfinity mobile insurance is a service the company provides to anybody using their mobile services.
  • There are quite a few pros to having Xfinity mobile insurance, such as coverage for accidental and water damage.
  • Unfortunately, the insurance will add an extra cost to your monthly bill, and you’ll be limited to certified repair centers.

Is Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan Worth It?

However, much like Verizon phone insurance or Google Preferred Care , there are some pros and cons to this type of coverage.

Should You Buy Coverage?

Before you buy, check out our list of the best phone insurance options . Our #1 pick is Akko, which offers great device coverage at a very competitive rate of just $5/month with the 1st month free .

Pros of Having Xfinity Mobile Insurance

You’ll get a few perks when you subscribe to the Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan. The plan will cost $7 , $12 , or $15 (per month, depending on device).

In addition to the monthly insurance fee, you may find some repairs and replacements require paying a hefty deductible or service fee.

Cons of Having Xfinity Mobile Insurance

As with anything, there are a few downsides to the service.

Firstly, it should be noted that this plan is not offered to residents living in New York.

state on New York with the marked out symbol over it

You’ll find that it adds an extra monthly cost to your bill, and there’s no coverage for the more costly repairs you may require.

You may also be faced with additional charges. For example, in the case of loss or theft, the company charges a range of fees, $50 , $180 , or $280 , depending on the device model.

There’s also a service charge of $29 for screen repair, and any other accidental damage has a fee of $40 and $99 .

What is covered with xfinity mobile protection plan (xmpp), early upgrade without fees, when to enroll your device for xmpp, xmpp billing, how to file an insurance claim, what is not covered by xmpp, cancelation policy, final verdict – is it worth subscribing to xmpp, frequently asked questions (faqs).

Ever dropped your smartphone in a pool, or cracked your phone screen while running on a treadmill? Well, that sounds like a mess! After all, that little device you just broke comes at a high price, and you probably aren’t prepared for the sudden expense of getting a new phone!

According to Statista, the average price of a smartphone for our everyday use is expected to amount to around $823, while a business smartphone might cost somewhere around $822 in the current year. Now, that price tag seems a bit too high for most of us – isn’t it? Well, the good news is that this expense can be easily avoided in certain scenarios!

For example, if you are an Xfinity Mobile user, you can sign up for the Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan which not only helps you avoid hefty repair and replacement fees but also helps you solve technical issues within no time! Below is a detailed overview of what Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan (XMPP) covers, its numerous benefits, and latest price. Let’s take a look!

Xfinity has partnered with Assurant to offer a robust mobile protection plan to its customers. XMPP covers your device during the following events.

Accidental Damage

Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan covers your device in events of accidental damage such as spills, cracks, or drops. So, the next time you drop your phone, Xfinity will have the repair expense covered for you, just at the cost of a minor monthly fee.

Also, Apple customers who have signed up for XMPP will have access to AppleCare Services, as well.

Note:  Please refer to  Apple’s website for more information. Service fees/deductibles apply per approved claim.

Hardware Service

XMPP offers device repair/replacement services if there has been an electrical or mechanical breakdown. The best part is that there is no service fee or additional deductibles for this coverage. However, you need to remember that this service can only be utilized if your manufacturer's warranty  has already expired.

Loss or Theft

One of the best advantages of XMPP is that it includes loss and theft coverage. So, just in case you lose your phone, or have it stolen, the provider will cover it for you and you will get a phone replacement almost immediately.

Note: Conditions and deductibles apply to the above offer.

Unlimited Screen-Only Repairs

XMPP offers unlimited repairs for your phone screen for up to $29! So, just in case you have broken your phone screen, or cracked it, Xfinity will have the repair expense covered for you!

Want to get your hands on a newly-released phone on the market? Well, Xfinity has got you covered! Included as part of the XMPP, now you can easily get a new phone for yourself, once you have paid 50% of your existing device price!

However, for Comcast Business Mobile devices, you need to have at least a year of Xfinity service before you become eligible for an early device upgrade.

The best part? Even the Xfinity users who have not signed up for XMPP are eligible for this offer! Simply pay an early upgrade fee and enjoy the upgrade!

Need more information on Xfinity’s device upgrade? Call now at 844-207-8721 or visit here

You can enroll your device for XMPP right after you purchase it, or up to thirty days after that. Terms and conditions apply.

Just in case you have already enrolled in the Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan, and receive a replacement phone from Assurant, Apple, or Xfinity Mobile, the replacement will be enrolled automatically.

Once you sign up for the Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan, you will be charged a nominal monthly fee, depending on your device type. This fee can be anywhere around $7, $12, or $15 per device.

Each XMPP billing cycle will include a flat monthly charge. However, if you sign up for XMPP during the mid-cycle, then the provider will charge a prorated amount on your bill. After that, you will receive a flat charge on your XMPP bill each month.

You can file an insurance claim with Xfinity via the Pocket Geek Mobile by Assurant app. Most users who have signed up for XMPP should have this app already installed on their phone, however, iPhone users might need to install it first.

Note: Please call 844-207-8721 for more information regarding the Pocket Geek Mobile app.

Below are a few other ways to file an insurance claim with XMPP. Let’s take a look!

  • Open a web browser and navigate to  com/xfinitymobile . Now press the Go button and follow the on-screen prompts.
  • You can also file an Xfinity mobile insurance claim via Xfinity’s Live Chat feature for XMPP customers. This feature not only enables quick device repair/replacement but also allows you to temporarily suspend your mobile services and protect yourself against unauthorized use.

Note: You will receive repair/replacement options once your insurance claim gets approved by Xfinity.

The Pocket Geek App by Assurance is approved by Xfinity, however, it is solely for XMPP claims. Just in case you need help with Xfinity’s online account management, bill payment, etc., then download the Xfinity Mobile App on your phone.

What Information Would You Need to File a Claim?

You need to have the following details ready before you file a claim.

  • Your IMEI or Xfinity mobile number
  • Manufacturer’s details such as name, phone model, storage size, etc.
  • Date and cause of damage/loss
  • Deductible payment method or service fee

Note: You can pay your deductibles via a debit/credit card, or eCheck (if accepted).

The provider might ask for additional documentation under certain scenarios, such as government-issued proof of device loss, a police report for device theft, or more.

Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan does not cover certain devices, such as intentionally damaged devices, pre-existing faulty conditions, and defects subject to a manufacturer’s recall or warranty. More details of insurance exclusions can be found in the handout of XMPP Terms and Conditions – which is provided to you right after you sign up with XMPP.

You can cancel your Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan subscription whenever you want via its Live Chat feature on the official website.

However, the amount of the refund will be based on the time frame in which you cancel your subscription – for example, if you cancel the service within the first 45 days, then you will be eligible for a full refund of your total payments.

On the contrary, if you cancel your subscription after 45 days, then you will be eligible for a pro-rated refund for the unused amount.

Note: XMPP cancelations are immediately effective and cannot be reversed. Once you cancel your XMPP subscription for a certain device, you cannot re-enroll for the same device.

A big yes! It is absolutely worth subscribing to the Xfinity Mobile Protection Plan due to the plethora of perks it offers at such an economical rate. So, subscribe to XMPP now and say goodbye to hefty phone repair and replacement charges!

Also, just in case you aren’t aware, the provider offers a wide range of telecom services as well. Some of them include   TV, and Home Phone services. Reach out to Xfinity Customer Support at 844-207-8721 if you wish to know more about Xfinity Internet plans, TV deals, or more.

Comcast prides itself on running on one of the largest private VoIP networks in the country. It does not offer pricing upfront, but instead, allows you to request a quote online or by phone.

What Plans Does Comcast Offer?

Comcast Business offers two cloud-based Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business phone solutions along with a pair of trunking devices that provide support to your onsite or IP private branch exchange (PBX) equipment to provide network access to multiple individuals at the same time.

  • Voice Mobility: Features include calls at any location, a portable business number, hunt groups, and options to add voicemail or a toll-free number.
  • Business VoiceEdge: Features include calls at any location, unified digital control, multiple hunt group settings (simultaneous, regular, uniform, circular), automated attendant, audio conferencing, a productivity app, readable voicemail, and busy call appearance.
  • PRI Trunks: Features include 911 location management, simple digital control, disaster recovery and business continuity, and Integrated Access Device (IAD) PBX.
  • SIP Trunks: Features include 911 location management, up to 800 concurrent call sessions, Calling Name Delivery (CNAM), Dialed Number Information Service (DNIS), Automatic Number Identification (ANI), business continuity, and SIP gateway with Session Border Controller (SBC).

Voice Mobility is ideal for small retail operations, start-ups, and growing businesses, typically with one to 10 employees. It provides basic features, such as unlimited local calling, nationwide long distance, and directory listing. Business VoiceEdge is ideal for professional services, retail and manufacturing, and not-for-profit organizations. It includes a business app, along with a choice of phone hardware, and expands the feature selection from the more simplified Voice Mobility option.

PRI Trunks and SIP Trunks both include the basics: unlimited local calling minutes and 200 nationwide long-distance minutes, direct inward dialing (DID), direct outward dialing (DOD), and the ability to allow employees to make both DID and DOD calls without the need for a switchboard operator. PRI Trunks and SIP Trunks are both recommended by Comcast for corporate headquarters and large offices, organizations with customized business requirements, and single-site or multi-location enterprises.

Comcast emphasizes its reliability with all cloud-based services and trunking options, saying that they run over one of the largest managed VoIP networks in the nation. All service options offer the opportunity for customization with select features at an additional cost.

Comcast FAQs

Comcast Business offers 24/7 support for its products and services. Customers can access assistance via the “My Account” portal, dial a toll-free number, chat online with a customer service representative, or visit the Comcast Business Support Community.

Comcast integrates with Slack, and anybody with the Business VoiceEdge plan can use Slack to communicate with up to 50 people at the same time. Other popular integrations include Skype and Office365.

The Comcast Business App is available for Android and iOS smartphones and allows you to make and receive calls anywhere from any device using your primary business number. The app requires the purchase of a Business Voice Mobility or Business VoiceEdge plan.

Comcast Business doesn’t reveal its security features on its website and you may have to contact them directly for more information. Comcast does tout features such as call screening and the ability to block specific numbers, reject anonymous calls, trace offensive calls (law enforcement can access this information with the proper legal authorization, but you and your business will not), and password protection.

Comcast Business references the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) in some of its online materials focused on health care technology, but does not explicitly state that it is fully compliant with HIPAA regulations. For that reason, it’s best to request a consultation with the company before deciding if HIPAA compliance is critical to your business. HIPAA requires data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding patients’ protected medical information. It applies to doctor’s offices, hospitals, health insurers, and other health care companies with access to such data.

Comcast offers hardware for select plans. Currently, only Business VoiceEdge includes phones in its package. The other cloud-based phone service and trunking solutions offered through Comcast require you to bring your own phone. Business VoiceEdge also comes with its own private branch exchange (PBX) equipment to provide network access to multiple individuals at the same time.

What Is Xfinity Mobile? Everything You Need To Know – Updated February 2024

H ave you heard about Xfinity Mobile lately? It’s Comcast’s own wireless service that comes as part of its bundles. Xfinity Mobile operates as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) and uses Verizon’s network as well as millions of Comcast WiFi hotspots around the country. It’s similar to Google Fi, but Xfinity works on just one wireless network.

There are many questions regarding Xfinity Mobile such as its plan prices, what’s included, and whether it offers 5G. We will address all of these questions here, so you can get all the information you need about Xfinity Mobile.

What is Xfinity Mobile?

Xfinity Mobile is exactly what it sounds like. Comcast’s own mobile service. It is an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) that runs on Verizon’s network. Xfinity Mobile was born out of a contract that Comcast had with Verizon, where it leased most of its spectrum to Verizon, and in turn, it was able to use Verizon’s network for this service.

Basically, Xfinity Mobile will work on your WiFi network when you’re at home. When you’re out of the house, it’ll either use the millions of Xfinity Mobile Hotspots around the country or connect to Verizon’s network. Since Verizon arguably has the best service in the country and the best coverage, that’s a good choice by Comcast. The Hotspots are available to every person who has Comcast in their home. Their router/gateway has a public network that anyone can connect to. This has caused a lot of people to get upset that random people can use their network and get free WiFi.

Keep in mind that because it is an MVNO, it may not get the best coverage or speeds from Verizon. Carriers do like to prioritize their postpaid customers, followed by their prepaid customers, and then MVNO customers after that. So if you live in an area that is very popular, you may end up getting deprioritized by Verizon and end up with slower speeds.

How much does it cost?

Comcast keeps its plans pretty simple. There are two plans: pay by the Gig or Unlimited.

This means that you can get service for your phone for as little as $15/month. That’s not bad at all.

Keep in mind that these monthly prices do not include taxes and fees. However, since this is an MVNO, the taxes, and fees will be pretty low. These are going to depend on your city and state, but you’ll likely be paying around $10 per month in taxes and fees. These are all dependent on your local government and not Comcast. So, no matter who you choose to use for your phone service, you will get charged these fees.

What plans are available?

There are essentially two types of plans available on Xfinity Mobile. There’s By the Gig and then Unlimited. Each of these has a few plans available.

Let’s start with By the Gig. These all include unlimited talk and text. You can get 1GB of data for $15/month, 3GB for $30/month, or 10GB for $60/month. You can easily adjust this as needed throughout the month, and this is shared with other devices on your account. So say if you have your grandparents on your account and you know they won’t use a lot of data, this might be the best option for them.

Then there’s Unlimited. So there’s Unlimited Intro, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Premium. With Unlimited Intro, you’re paying $45 per month for a single line or $30 per month for multiple lines. This will get you 20GB of high-speed data per line, unlimited mobile hotspot data at 3G speeds, and a standard resolution of 480p video. The next step up is Unlimited Plus, which is $55/month for a single line or $40/month for multiple lines. This plan comes with 30GB of premium data per line, 5GB of mobile hotspot data at 5G/4G speeds, and high-resolution 720p video.

Finally, there’s Unlimited Premium. This one will cost you $65/month for a single line, or $50/month for multiple lines. It offers up to 50GB of premium data per line, 15GB of mobile hotspot data at 5G/4G speeds, and 720p video. All three of these unlimited plans offer unlimited talk and text as well. These all have unlimited data, but the amount of high-speed data does vary.

Xfinity Mobile does let you mix and match on your account. So you can have one line on 1GB by the Gig, one on Unlimited Intro, one on Unlimited Plus, and the fourth one on Unlimited Premium, and it would only cost you $135 per month.

When are speeds reduced?

These days, “unlimited” doesn’t really mean unlimited. So when does Xfinity Mobile start to reduce speeds? According to its website, the speeds will be reduced to around 20GB. Your data may be temporarily slowed after 20GB, but this really depends on congestion in your area. A lot of the time when customers hit that 20GB threshold, data is not really slowed down. But that doesn’t mean you can go out of your way and use as much data as possible.

Do I need to be a Comcast customer?

Yes. You need to at least have Comcast Internet to be able to sign up for Xfinity Mobile. In fact, you have to have the Internet to use Xfinity Mobile, just cable or just a home phone won’t work.

That’s not a huge surprise, since it does use Comcast’s own Internet to help offset data prices. Hopefully, this will open up to more customers in the future.

But keep in mind that Comcast covers the majority of the US with Internet. So it is pretty likely that you do have Comcast for Internet already.

Is there 5G available?

Yes. 5G is available, thanks to Verizon. So you’ll be able to get Ultra Wideband 5G from Verizon if you have a compatible device. That includes some pretty incredible speeds; we’ve clocked over 2Gbps on Verizon’s mmWave network. But again, Xfinity Mobile will be lower on the tower than Verizon postpaid customers, so you may not see 2Gbps, but really, anything over 500Mbps is already incredible for a mobile device.

Do I need to sign a contract?

No. Xfinity Mobile is an MVNO, so there are no contracts involved. You can join and leave at any time.

Now, if you did finance your phone through Xfinity Mobile, you will owe the remaining balance when you leave. And if you got your phone at a discount, you will also forfeit those remaining bill credits. For instance, currently, the Moto G Play is available for $0/month and is regularly priced at $149.99. So you’d be getting a $6.24 bill credit each month. But if you leave Comcast after a year, you’ll forfeit around $75 in bill credits. Obviously, it’s not that big of a deal with the Moto G Play, but others, like the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which is $300 off right now, are a much bigger deal.

What devices does Xfinity Mobile support?

Xfinity Mobile allows you to bring your own phone, or you can purchase one from them. Basically, any unlocked Verizon phone will work on Xfinity Mobile. Since it first launched in 2017, Xfinity Mobile has greatly increased the devices available on its network, and it is very similar to Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile.

You’ll find the latest iPhones, Samsung Galaxy, and Google Pixel devices available on Xfinity Mobile. As well as plenty of other phones. There are plenty of options available if you are looking to get a new phone, thankfully.

Xfinity Mobile has more than just the flagships, too. So, if you were looking for something a bit cheaper, Xfinity Mobile has you covered, too. With the Galaxy A54 5G, Galaxy A25 5G, Moto G stylus 5G, and a few other options too. So no matter your budget, they have you covered. Additionally, Xfinity Mobile also offers financing. So even if you don’t want to pay for the phone entirely today, you can spread it out over 24 months. at 0% APR.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up for Xfinity Mobile by clicking here. You’ll need to log in to your Comcast account first. Then, it’ll walk you through the signup process. This will include choosing your plan, as well as your phone – whether you’re bringing your own or buying one, and setting up autopay. Like a lot of MVNOs, Xfinity Mobile only uses autopay.

Is Xfinity Mobile worth it?

Now that a lot of us are working from home, potentially forever now that we know it works, Xfinity Mobile is going to work for a lot more people. It’s a really great option for those who are working from home or are in the office all day with WiFi, as you won’t be using much data. And if you use very little data, getting a phone plan for $15 per month is not too shabby.

Of course, this really only applies to those that have Xfinity Internet. If you don’t have Comcast as your Internet provider, then Xfinity Mobile is not even an option for you, unfortunately.
