Transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten (K) may be your child’s first-ever experience in a school setting – or it may be a time of transition, moving up from preschool to elementary school. Regardless, it’s an exciting and special milestone. Find out more about the difference between TK and K and what to expect for your child.
California public schools (and some non-public schools) offer Transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten as opportunities to help children develop school readiness skills. Although children aren’t required by law to attend TK and kindergarten (children 6 and up, however, are required to enroll in school), these programs give your child the experience of being in a school environment and learn beyond what you do at home. TK is available for kids whose fifth birthdays are between September 2nd and December 2nd of the school year. For example, if your child turns 5 on October 5th, then he or she is eligible to enroll in a TK class at your local public school. Since TK students are younger in age, these programs are designed using age-appropriate curriculum for younger children.
Children who attend and complete TK then move on to kindergarten the following year. So, a child with a birthday within the TK range will have two years of kindergarten experience before going to first grade. School districts vary in how and where they offer TK classes, so be sure to ask your local district about what options are available in your area.
Kindergarten is available to children whose fifth birthdays are on or before September 1st of the school year. Kindergarten curriculum is designed to meet the needs and teach children who are in this age range. Because of this, the kindergarten curriculum is somewhat more challenging and academic than the TK curriculum. Kindergarten is typically offered at every local public elementary school. And after completing kindergarten, your child will go on to first grade.
Children who turn five after December 2nd of the school year will have to wait to enroll in kindergarten the following school year. It’s an ideal time for these children to have an extra year of preschool to prepare for kindergarten.
Check out our Public Schools page to find out more about how to find a public school that’s right for your child.

Sixth-Grade Homework
Even if your daughter is using most of her time efficiently, she may need some help from you in managing the bigger homework load that sixth grade brings. Having a set time and place for doing homework will give her the self-discipline to start each day. Beyond this, you need to make sure your daughter knows how to plan her work. Before your child tackles her first assignment, she needs to prioritize her work from studying for a test first to doing a math worksheet last. Have her tell you her plans for several days so she gets in the habit of doing this.
Help your daughter further along the path to homework success by making sure that she reads directions carefully and can use textbook and worksheet examples to make sure she is on the right track with an assignment. Then stay nearby to provide assistance if she asks for it. While it is acceptable to work with her to get an assignment started, avoid doing any of her work.
If these hints don't help your daughter reduce her homework time substantially, you need to talk to her teachers about how burdensome homework is for your child. Take a list of the daily assignments that your child has to your discussion, and find out how long the teachers think each assignment should take. Quite often, when several teachers are making assignments, they don't realize how overwhelming the homework load is.

6th Grade Common Core Worksheets
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts (ELA) provide a framework of educational expectations for students in reading, writing, and other language skills. The goals of the CCSS ELA are broken out by grade and subject area, including Reading: Literature, Reading: Informational Text, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language, as well as expectations in additional subject areas such as science and technology, history, and further writing areas. Sixth graders are expected to master the basics of reading fiction and non-fiction books, learn deeper writing and grammar skills, grow in their oral presentations, collaborations, use of technology and the complexity of their reading choices. See the subheadings for each ELA category for more information on the specific expectations for students.

Description
6th Math Spiral Homework for the Entire Year
It is so important to continually review skills in math class. All too often, students learn a math skill, take a test on it and forget it! These spiral reviews will help your students using those skills and keep them up to date.
This product includes 40 worksheets, with 20 problems each. New topics are introduced on each sheet, but topics from previous lessons are reviewed throughout the year. Spiraling math topics helps students master skills by continually practicing throughout the year. There are 4 versions of the worksheets- one with the days of the week and one without. They're completely EDITABLE (in PowerPoint) versions of each. This is perfect for differentiation and to meet your specific standards. The sheets cover the topics of the Common Core State Standards. There is a worked out answer key for each worksheet.
A DIGITAL option has also been added: 40 Self-Checking Google Forms (one for each assignment) has been added. This makes it easy to assign spiral homework throughout the year regardless of whether you are face to face, hybrid or all distance learning.
