What is a business phone plan?

Is it worth getting a business mobile plan, how do i compare business phone plans, what is the best business mobile plan in australia, telstra business mobile plans, optus business mobile plans, vodafone business phone plans.

Why compare mobile plans with Finder?

We don't charge extra. Prices shown on Finder are the same as those you get directly from mobile plan providers.

We regularly work with providers to deliver amazing exclusive offers you won't find anywhere else.

We have a team dedicated to monitoring mobile plan prices and keeping deals updated daily.

Business phone plans are designed for businesses to give to their employees, so they can keep in touch with clients and co-workers.

If you're running a business with multiple employees that need work numbers, it makes sense to look at getting a business mobile plan to make it easier for organisational or tax purposes.

They have different inclusions to personal mobile plans because people tend to use their phones differently for business than they would for recreation.

Business plans are also designed for lots of employees to share inclusions.

They also often have better access to support , because the consequences of a business phone being down are much harsher than that of a personal phone.

  • Keep in mind: SME's and larger enterprises reap the most rewards with a business mobile plan. Business phone plans won't really benefit sole traders (depending on how you handle tax).

Depending on the size of your business, a mobile plan specifically designed for work may or may not benefit your organisation.

  • Designed specifically for business. Many also allow you to tailor the plans specifically to suit your business needs. For example, if you need international call inclusions to keep in touch with international clients, or have multiple employees who can share a data pool.
  • Lots of options available. Businesses come in so many different flavours – a cheese factory and game development studio would have vastly different calling and data needs, so providers have plenty of options to make sure you get the right plan.
  • Extra value. Because most businesses are signing up for a bunch of mobile plans at once, providers will often kick in extra perks like international call inclusions, or discounts.
  • Cost and contracts. These plans tend to be more expensive than regular mobile plans and often have long contracts. Think carefully about whether a business plan or a regular account with multiple personal plans is better for you.

Note for sole traders:

You don't need to have a business phone plan to be able to claim your phone on tax . You can claim the portion you use for business on a regular, personal phone plan. This will be the most cost-effective choice for most sole traders who only have 1 phone.

There are a lot of options in the business mobile world, and your needs will be different from other businesses. Here are some things to consider besides the cost of your plan.

busines support icon

Business support

This is the main thing business plans offer over personal ones. If this is something that's important to you, make sure you're being offered tech support and personalised service in the way you prefer.

network coverage icon

Network coverage

Telstra covers the most places in Australia, so if your business will take your employees out into rural and regional areas, a plan on the Telstra network may be worth the extra dollars it costs.

flexibility icon

Flexibility

What you need this quarter might not be the same as what you need next quarter. In many businesses, being able to reduce costs quickly can be vital. While all providers will let you add plans and upgrade to more expensive ones with more inclusions, make sure the one you choose will also let you move down to a cheaper plan and even remove plans in case of tough times.

mobile device icon

Do you already have devices you can give to your employees? The major providers will often have device bundles available to sign up to which can be convenient, but could you get a better discount on bulk phones elsewhere?

mobile data icon

How much data do you really need? Consider whether a large data pool shared amongst employees is a good option, or if you'd rather each employee has their own set amount of data each month.

As each business is so wildly different from the next, it's impossible to pick a mobile plan that will best suit every business.

Many businesses may prefer to sign up to a larger, more established provider, but that's not to say you won't get excellent service and cheaper prices from smaller providers too.

We've broken down the main offerings from the 3 largest business mobile providers in Australia to give you a taste of what's on offer.

Telstra logo

Telstra's business phone plans operate in the same sizes as its general consumer plans, with Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large plans. All include:

  • Data, from 40GB–180GB
  • Data sharing between plans on the 1 account
  • Unlimited standard national calls and texts
  • Medium and above plans include the 5G network
  • No excess data charges in Australia
  • The option to add a phone to each plan for an added monthly cost spread over 24–36 months
  • Good to know: To get the right mix of plans for your business, Telstra encourages you to book an appointment with one of the company's dedicated small business experts.

  • Compare Clear

Optus logo

Optus offers a huge range of plans to suit every kind of business with 1–300 plans able to be put on the same account and share data.

  • Good to know: Companies that require 10+ SIMs are encouraged to talk to an account manager to tailor data allowances, monthly rates and device inclusions to suit their business.

Here are the details of the plans available to every business without negotiation:

  • Plans start from $50 month-to-month or $47.50 on a 24-month plan or $45 on a 36-month plan – prices get cheaper the more SIMs you're after
  • 50GB of data, which accumulates and pools with other phones on the same account
  • Unlimited standard talk and text
  • Unlimited international talk and text to selected countries
  • Multiple service discount for total number of Business Mobile Plus services on the 1 plan, starting at 10% for 2, and up to 34% for 12+
  • Option to add $10 roaming packs for business trips

For businesses that need 6+ plans with devices, there are Tech Fund plans. These plans include:

  • Device credits from $300–$1,800, depending on the plan and length of contract
  • Up to 10GB of included international roaming data each month
  • Data ranging from 6GB–200GB (which is pooled)
  • The option to blend different plans on the 1 account (such as cheaper plans with no roaming for local sales reps, and plans with 10GB roaming inclusions for regional managers)

Vodafone logo

Vodafone offers the most affordable plans of the big 3 telcos, along with including some added features.

  • Good to know: If your employees need to travel overseas, the $5 a day roaming add on will allow them to keep the same number without breaking the budget.

Vodafone has 3 types of business plans:

  • Team plans. These allow data sharing between employees, and you can add a phone onto the individual plans. This is for when you have fewer than 10 services on the 1 account.
  • SIM only Business Flex mobile plans. Best for teams of 10+, which includes the use of a personal account manager.
  • Tech Fund Business Flex plans. These include credit towards buying handsets, as well as the use of a personal account manager.

finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stands by our editorial principles

We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.

Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.

How we make money

We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.

Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.

Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. You can learn more about how we make money .

When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. Canstar Blue

Australia’s Best-Rated Business Mobile Plan Providers

See Our Ratings Methodology .

business mobile plans in australia

Most Satisfied Customers | Vodafone

Vodafone is our winner for the 2023 mobile plan provider ratings, with an impressive five-star score across most categories, including customer satisfaction, value for money, client service, billing and plan flexibility, while it scored four stars for network coverage.

business mobile plans in australia

How we rate business mobile plan providers

Our ratings compare mobile phone plan providers offering business plans, based on customer satisfaction as rated by Australians.

How many Australians do we survey for our ratings?

Canstar Blue surveyed 580 Australians with a current business mobile plan service for their feedback on mobile plan providers they’ve been signed up to. Respondents had to have a current mobile phone plan for a business and that business pays the bills.

  • The outcomes reported in these ratings are measured via accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics .

What criteria are used to rate business mobile plan providers?

Survey respondents are asked to rate their satisfaction with their business mobile phone plan provider from zero to 10 , with zero meaning extremely dissatisfied and 10 meaning extremely satisfied. Business mobile plan provider satisfaction is rated on the following criteria:

  • Overall satisfaction: measures consumer satisfaction with a mobile plan provider as an individual score, NOT the combined total of all criteria.
  • Value for money: the price paid for the mobile phone plan was reasonable for the service experienced.
  • Network coverage: the mobile network offered good and reliable coverage.
  • Client service: the mobile plan provider offered good service and support, and was easy to get in touch with.
  • Billing: the mobile plan billing was clear and easy to understand and pay.
  • Plan flexibility: the mobile plan provider offered a reasonable amount of plan flexibility.

How do we determine the winner?

The winning brand is the brand that receives the highest Overall satisfaction rating . All the scores from the Overall satisfaction criteria are then combined and averaged to determine the overall winner.

  • Overall satisfaction is asked as a specific question and represents an individual measure, not a combined total of all criteria.
  • The brand with the highest number of five-star ratings within the supporting criteria will become the five-star recipient in overall satisfaction, and therefore win the award. If a clear leading brand still cannot be determined from the supporting criteria, joint winners will be declared.

Which business mobile plan providers do we rate?

To qualify in the ratings results, providers must have received a minimum of 30 responses to be included. Therefore, not all mobile phone plan providers offering business services will be compared in this survey. Providers rated in this survey are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.

Best business mobile plan providers

1. vodafone, ratings result.

Vodafone came out on top for the second year in a row, scoring five stars for overall satisfaction. It also scored five stars for value for money, client service, billing and plan flexibility, while it scored four stars for network coverage.

Editor’s notes

Vodafone offers the option of SIM-only plans or plans that can be bundled with a device. All that you need to do is supply your ABN/ACN on sign up, or link it to an existing Vodafone mobile plan account, with additional business plans also able be added.

Telstra took out second place with four stars for overall satisfaction, value for money, client service, billing and plan flexibility, while it scored five stars for network coverage.

Telstra offers a range of SIM-only plans or plans with a phone, with the option to bundle services onto the one plan. Its plans and device selection are essentially the same offerings as what you’ll get if you sign up to a non-business plan. If you bundle a phone with a plan, you’ll choose from a 12, 24 or 36-month device repayment period.

Ratings results

Rounding out our ratings in third is Optus with three stars for overall satisfaction and billing, while it scored four stars in the remaining categories — value for money, network coverage, client service and plan flexibility.

Optus offer a range of options for its business phone plans. While you can pick a similar selection of SIM-only plans and devices to its non-business phone plans, Optus does offer McAfee protection on up to 20 devices on its Business Choice Plus plans. Optus also offers a ‘team plan’ which includes four SIM plans with data to share and flexibility, along with the option to add on additional SIMs for an extra cost per SIM.

Other business phone plan providers

Apart from the above-mentioned providers, there are several other telcos also offering phone plans for businesses, although many of these providers might only offer SIM-only plans and no handsets for bundling. These telcos include:

  • Aussie Broadband
  • Southern Phone

Choosing a phone plan provider

Access to a phone and/or phone plan for work can be an essential part of a business. Of those surveyed, 27% provide employees with a mobile phone for work use and 33% upgrade handsets every one to two years.

Despite several providers offering mobile phone services to businesses, 50% of respondents have always been with the same business phone service provider. A big reason for this could be that almost a third of respondents (31%) believe the provider offers good value, while 26% believe their provider offers the best coverage or is the only provider with coverage in the area.

When choosing a provider for your business mobile phone services, there can be a lot to consider. 17% of survey respondents claimed that they don’t find the time to compare other offers and switch providers, so it might seem like a lot to think about on top of operating a business.

However, when you break it down to a few points, comparing business mobile phone plans might be more simple than you think.

Phone with a plan or SIM-only

The first thing to consider is whether you’ll need phones bundled with a phone plan — such as an iPhone or Samsung phone — or if you simply need the phone plan on its own. If you need handsets with a plan, your provider choices will mostly be limited to the big three telcos (Telstra, Optus and Vodafone).

If you just need the SIM cards with a phone plan, then you have a wider range of options to choose from.

Additional extras

Some providers will offer business-related extras such as the ability to bundle multiple services, data sharing across plans, device security software and more. If these extras are important to you, you can then compare providers to see what is available and which telco will offer the best value for you.

How much mobile data you need for your plans is pretty important. Consider what your team will be using their phone plans for — such as working on the go, accessing emails, video conferencing, making calls, etc — will help determine whether you need a plan with lots of data or not. If phones will be used primarily for making and receiving calls and accessing emails, a smaller amount of data, or a data-sharing plan, might work best. Otherwise you’ll need bigger data plans for working on the go and video conferencing.

Mobile coverage

Of course, for some workers, a phone plan can be essential when travelling for work. If your team frequently needs to travel, especially to regional and remote areas, ensuring your choice of provider has good mobile network coverage in that area is essential.

While the Telstra, Optus and Vodafone networks all offer coverage to the majority of the country, it’s worth checking the mobile coverage map before signing up to a provider to ensure that the areas your team will be working from are covered by the mobile network.

Frequently asked questions

About this research.

Canstar Blue surveyed 2,022 Australian small business owners and key decision makers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction, via ISO 26362 accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group whose business currently pays for a mobile phone plan that is used for business purposes– in this case, 580 people.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then by mean overall satisfaction. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.

You can't purchase an eero device from More on a stand-alone basis or without a compatible More internet service.

Each More eero comes with an eero Secure subscription included for 12 months at no additional cost for use with a compatible More internet service. The initial 12-month subscription commences:

  • if you purchase an eero device with a new compatible More internet service, on the date that service is first activated; or
  • if you have an existing compatible More internet service, on the date your eero device is sent to you.

After this promotional period, your eero Secure subscription automatically converts to a paid month-to-month service. You will then be charged monthly in advance at the recommended retail price (RRP) per account (regardless of number of purchased or connected devices) as part of your standard monthly bill until your eero Secure subscription is cancelled. The price of an eero Secure subscription is currently $2.99/mth (inc GST) per account, subject to change on 30 days notice.

You cannot purchase an eero device from More without also receiving an eero Secure subscription. However, you can cancel it at any time by contacting us. Cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing period, as long as it is requested at least 5 days before that date. Otherwise, it will take effect at the end of your next billing period. You can continue to use eero Secure until the date of cancellation.

If you cancel your eero Secure subscription, we will disassociate it from all your eero devices connected to your account and you can continue to use a disassociated device with your compatible More internet service. However, once this occurs, you cannot reactivate an eero Secure Subscription with More unless you purchase a new eero devices from us.

Your eero device and eero Secure subscription are subject to the full offer T&Cs, applicable standard terms of service and policies available on the Policies page of our website. By continuing with your eero device purchase you agree to these terms.

International roaming travel packs

An International Roaming Travel Pack is a once-off service add-on which allows you to use your mobile service outside Australia in eligible countries. Each pack comes with a fixed allocation of data, standard SMS, and standard voice call minutes to be used within the pack's life span.

You can only use international roaming services if you have an active International Roaming Travel Pack, and we have two packs to choose from:

Eligible countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guernsey (UK), Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Isle of Man, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macao, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Romania, Russia, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, Turkey, United Arab Emirates (UAE), UK, USA, Vanuatu, Vietnam.

What happens if I travel to a country that isn't in the listed eligible countries?

Your mobile service and an International Roaming Travel Pack service just won't work!  Will I be charged fees if I travel overseas without activating an International Roaming Travel Pack?

No, you're never at risk of any surprise international service fees when travelling. Your service won't work overseas until you've purchased and activated a travel pack. You can access your Self Care Portal while overseas without incurring any data charges, to buy and activate travel packs.  How do I purchase and activate a travel pack?

  • Log into your   Self Care Portal
  • Select the 'Mobile' tab and 'Active Mobile Services' from the drop-down
  • Select 'View' on your mobile service
  • Select 'Add Travel Pack'
  • Choose from the available travel packs, select your desired activation date from the drop-down menu and then click 'Activate'

If you choose to activate your travel pack 'Today' you will be able to start using your travel pack immediately, but the validity period for your travel pack will begin at 12.00 am (Australian Eastern Time) the following day. For example, if you purchase a pack at 2.30 pm on a Monday, Day 1 of your pack's life span will begin at 12.00 am Tuesday morning and your pack will expire at 11.59 pm (Australian Eastern Time) on the final day of your pack's life span. Any unused data, SMS or voice call minutes are forfeited at the time of expiry. Will I know how much data, SMS and voice call minutes are left?

You'll receive alerts when you have used 50%, 85% and 100% of your travel pack inclusions. Will I be charged fees if I go over the data allowance?

No, you won't. When your data allowance runs out, the service will just stop working. You can purchase another travel pack to top up. The same applies to SMS and voice call minutes allowances.  If I run out of data first, can I top up just my data allowance?

Unfortunately, no. To top up an allowance, you need to purchase a new International Roaming Travel Pack. You can purchase a new pack at any time, and the newly activated pack will replace your existing pack, forfeiting any unused data, SMS and voice call minutes.

What is a business mobile plan?

A business mobile plan is a mobile phone plan that is specifically designed for businesses of various sizes. They are used by staff to stay connected with each other and with customers, to access work-related information and to work remotely. Business mobile plans typically offer features tailored for business use, which may include:

  • Multiple lines:  this allows businesses to easily manage mobile service for multiple employees under a single account.
  • Shared data pools:  this allows businesses to optimise data usage across the organisation and save money on unnecessary expenses.
  • Customer support:  business mobile plans typically offer prioritised customer support, so businesses can get help quickly when they need it.
  • Mobile device management (MDM):  this allows businesses to remotely manage and secure their mobile devices.
  • Discounts for volume:  businesses with multiple lines can often get discounts on their mobile service.
  • Flexible plans:  business mobile plans are often more flexible than personal plans, allowing businesses to customise their plan to meet their specific needs.
  • Additional features:  some business mobile plans offer features such as dedicated customer service lines, mobile hotspot access and international calling.

What are the benefits of business mobile plans?

There are a number of benefits to having a business mobile plan, including:

  • Increased productivity: business mobile plans can help employees to be more productive by giving them the tools and resources they need to work on the go.
  • Cost effective: business mobile plans bundled services, shared data allowances and special rates for business use, helping to keep mobile bills down.
  • Customisation options: business mobile plans can offer the flexibility to choose the features that best suit a company’s specific needs, such as international calling options, data add-ons, and more.
  • Improved customer service: business mobile plans can help businesses to improve their customer service by giving them the ability to respond to customer inquiries quickly and efficiently, even if they are not in the office.
  • Enhanced security: business mobile plans can help businesses to enhance their security by providing features such as MDM and remote data wipe, helping them protect sensitive business information.

How does a business mobile plan differ from a personal mobile plan?

There are a few key differences between business mobile plans and personal mobile plans:

  • Features and benefits:  business mobile plans typically offer more features and benefits than personal mobile plans, such as multiple lines, more data and business support.
  • Price:  business mobile plans can be more expensive than personal mobile plans, but they may offer better value for money if your employees use their mobile devices heavily for work.
  • Contract:  business mobile plans often require a long contract, which can be good if you want to lock in a low price but less so if you need to change your plan frequently.
  • Security: business mobile plans typically offer more robust security features than personal mobile plans, such as MDM, security software and network security.

How do I choose the right business mobile plan for my business?

To choose the best mobile plan for your business, you need to consider your business needs. You should:

  • Assess your needs: evaluate your business’s communication needs. Consider how many lines you require, the amount of data and minutes needed, and any specific features or services essential for your operations.
  • Check handset deals: some business mobile plans include handsets. If you need new handsets, be sure to compare the cost of the devices as well as the cost of the mobile plan.
  • Look at additional features: consider any additional features or services offered with the plan. This could include mobile device management, priority customer support, or other tools that enhance your business operations.
  • Consider future growth: choose a plan that can scale with your business. This ensures that as your company grows, your mobile plan can accommodate the increased demand for services.
  • Evaluate network coverage: check whether the provider offers strong network coverage in the areas where your business operates. Poor coverage can lead to dropped calls and unreliable service.
  • Compare providers: research and compare different providers to find the one that offers the best combination of features, coverage and pricing for your business.

Frequently asked questions about business mobile plans

Whether or not you should get a business mobile plan as a sole trader depends on your individual needs and business requirements. As a sole trader, you may be able to use your personal device for work and still claim it on tax. However, signing up to a business plan can:

  • Provide additional features tailored to your business needs
  • Help separate personal and business expenses
  • Streamline communication
  • Enhance professionalism

Ensuring the security and protection of mobile devices on a business plan is crucial. There are a number of things you can do to ensure security and data protection for mobile devices on a business plan, such as:

  • Using an MDM solution
  • Using strong passwords and enable multifactor authentication (MFA)
  • Keeping software up to date
  • Educating your employees about mobile security

Yes – many business mobile plans can be integrated with other business communication tools or systems, such as customer relationship management (CRM) software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. This integration can help you to improve your productivity and efficiency by streamlining your communication and workflows.

To find out whether or not a particular business mobile plan can be integrated with your existing business communication tools or systems, you should contact your provider.

If you lose your phone for business use, you should contact your provider immediately. They may be able to suspend your service or remotely wipe data from your device to protect your business data.

You may also need to file a police report if your phone is stolen. This will help to protect your identity and credit history.

If an employee leaves the company, you should collect any company-owned devices from them. You should remove the former employee’s access to company systems and change the passwords for any accounts that were accessed on the phone. Alternatively, if the employee has the option to buy the device, you must ensure it is reset and all company data is wiped from the phone. It’s important to have clear policies in place regarding company-provided devices.

20GB Business First M2M Voice Plan

No excess data charges.

First use 20GB Max Speed Data at the fastest speed our network allows, then keep using data in Oz up to 2Mbps .

Max Speed Data Allowance explained

Once you've used your Max Speed data allowance, you can continue to use data at speeds of up to 2Mbps or 10Mbps depending on your chosen plan. Unlimited Max Speed Data plans come with unlimited Max Speed data.

Max Speed is the fastest speed that our network can deliver to your phone at the time and place you’re using data. You can share Max Speed data with other Business First Plans. Unlimited Max Speed Data Plans are not eligible for data sharing.

Here’s what you can do at speeds of 2Mbps or 10Mbps. However, these are “up to” speeds - therefore your experience will continually vary depending on many factors such as device capabilities, location, network congestion and network coverage. 2Mbps is great for browsing, social media and streaming music but is not suitable for HD video. 10Mbps is great for high definition video and video calling, but uploading large files to the web may be slow.

Month to month No lock-in contract, giving more flexibility for you and your team.

Shareable data and int’l minutes Data and international minutes are shareable with other Business First plans under your account.

Standard int’l minutes from Oz 100 mins to Zone 1 and 25 mins to Zone 2.

National calls and texts Unlimited standard national calls and texts.

Important Things You Need To Know

About your mobile plan, general for all plans:.

All iiNet mobile plans are prepaid and auto-renew every month until you cancel. The recurring monthly plan fee is charged in advance, 7 days before the start of the next billing cycle.

Included Data:

All data for use in Australia within 4G coverage areas. When customers are not within a 4G coverage area, the mobile service will automatically switch over to 3G and speeds will be much less than that of 4G.

Actual speeds and functionalities may vary due to things like device capability, location, and network congestion.

iiNet Mobile plans have a specific amount of included data each month. Data usage (including for social networking) is not unlimited and will be taken out of your included data. Once all included data has been used, data will not be available until your next monthly billing cycle, unless you purchase Excess Data. Tethering is permitted to personal devices only, but must not be used in a modem or as a substitute for a home internet service.

iiNet will endeavour to warn you via SMS when you are about to exceed and have exceeded your included plan value amount. iiNet displays the information regarding usage to you at toolbox.iinet.net.au. Usage will generally appear in Toolbox within 48 hours. You are responsible for any usage irrespective of any warnings.

If you have any questions, please call iiNet Customer Support on 13 22 58.

Excluded Usage:

These plans exclude excess data, calls to international numbers (except the Extra Large plan which includes standard calls to select international destinations for 100 minutes), SMS and MMS to international numbers, calls to satellite phones, third party content, video calls to standard Australian and international numbers, international roaming, directory assistance and other enhanced services. Calls and SMS to 19 numbers, diversion to international numbers, and premium SMS/MMS are not available.

Prepaid Balance:

In addition to your recurring monthly plan charge, you have the option to make additional prepayments for usage that is not within the included value for your plan, which will be classified as your “Prepaid Balance”. Minimum $10 top-up to Prepaid Balance required. You may top-up your Prepaid Balance when you purchase your service or any time at toolbox.iinet.net.au. If your service is cancelled, any unused balance of your Prepaid Balance will not be refunded.

Excess Data:

iiNet Mobile plans have a certain amount of included data each monthly billing cycle. If at any time in a billing cycle you use up the amount of included data, we will charge $10 out of your Prepaid Balance to increase the amount of included data available in that particular billing cycle by 2GB. If there are insufficient funds in your Prepaid Balance, your mobile data will become inactive until your Prepaid Balance is topped up.

Charges for Excess Data:

We will charge $10 out of your Prepaid Balance (if available) which will give you an extra 2GB to use for the remainder of the billing period .

Over 2GB excess data:

We will charge an additional $10 out of your Prepaid Balance (if available) which will give you an extra 2GB to use for the remainder of the billing period.

Extra Large Plan Inclusion – 100 Minutes of Standard International Calls:

The Extra Large plan includes 100 minutes of standard international calls to select countries each month. See International Call Rates at iinet.net.au/mobile-internationalrates for a full list of included countries. Countries may vary. Video calls and calls to satellite phones are excluded. Calls to excluded countries, or calls to included countries after the first 100 minutes, will be charged at Pay As You Go rates (charged from Prepaid Balance, if available). See International Call Rates at iinet.net.au/mobile-internationalrates for a full list of call rates.

International Roaming:

International roaming is not included in iiNet Mobile plans. Charges for international roaming will be deducted from your Prepaid Balance on a Pay As You Go basis. Significantly higher call, SMS and data rates will apply. See SIM Only Plans for Mobile Phones for roaming rates. We recommend that you opt-in to International Roaming via Toolbox before leaving Australia. If you need to turn on International Roaming after leaving Australia, please call us on 13 22 58 from any phone. We highly recommend you disable Mobile Data and roaming settings on your device before going overseas to ensure that you do not incur unexpected and high data usage fees whilst roaming. iiNet will endeavour to warn you via SMS when you are about to exceed and have exceeded your included plan value amount. iiNet displays the information regarding usage to you (via Toolbox) 30 minutes after you accrue it. You are responsible for any usage irrespective of any warnings.

Optus business mobile plans review

Let’s get down to (Optus) business.

4.5 out of 5 stars

We may earn money when you click our links.

Optus has dedicated business mobile solutions for up to 300 plans , but the main focus of this page is plans reviews for smaller businesses. Enterprise customers with more than 300 employees in need of phone plans can alternatively contact Optus Enterprise for support . While Optus tailors mobile plan solutions for between one and five employees or six to 300 staff, smaller businesses can take advantage of the value and savings found in Optus mobile plans built for everyday users.

Optus may not have as wide-reaching network as Telstra (for 4G and, particularly, 5G ), but it’s still got coverage in most parts of Australia. Basically, if you business operates in any populous part of Australia, you shouldn’t have any issues with an Optus mobile plan. Optus has good dollar-to-data value on its plans, with plenty of data and decent inclusions. It’s a shame there aren’t cheaper SIM Only plans and 1.5Mbps post-max-speed throttling isn’t ideal, but there aren’t any excess data charges.

Optus business mobile value for money

We advise small businesses to use SIM Only plans over Prepaid plans , unless you use a phone more reactively and don’t have on-the-go data needs. If that’s you, long-expiry Prepaid plans are worth considering to help keep costs down.

Note that all Optus SIM Only plans include access to the Optus 5G network (where available). Similarly, Optus SIM Only plans let users share data on eligible plans under a single account, which is a good choice for small business users. Optus SIM Only plans start with the $49 Optus Choice Plus Plan, which comes with 30GB of data.

There’s money to be saved if you go with an Optus MVNO or Vodafone MVNO , but you’ll have to pay closer to this particular Optus plan price if you want partial Telstra 5G or Vodafone 5G access. Below are some of the most popular SIM Only plans from our database with at least 30GB of data.

The dollar-to-data value increases dramatically with the next Optus plan. For not a lot more per month, the $59 Optus Choice Plus Plan comes with 100GB of data, plus unlimited calls and text messages (no MMS) to 35 selected dialling destinations.

That 70GB jump in data thins out the SIM Only competition. There are other competing telcos on the Optus, Telstra wholesale and Vodafone network with better pricing and/or more data, but international call inclusions and data sharing are rarer perks. For comparison, below is a daily updating list of SIM Only plans from our database with at least 100GB of monthly data.

The next cheapest plan is the $69 Optus Choice Plan, which has 220GB of data and the same international inclusions. Again, Optus continues the trend of paying not a lot more for a whole lot of data.

Competition is a lot thinner when you start dealing with 200GB of data. There are alternatives on the Optus 5G and Vodafone 5G network at this price point, which are worth considering if you need more than 200GB of data. Below is a daily updating list of popular SIM Only plans from our database with at least 200GB of data.

The penultimate SIM Only plan is the $89 Optus Choice Plus Plan, which ordinarily comes with 360GB of data for use on the Optus 5G network. Optus is currently running a promotion that bumps that figure up to 500GB, so the amount of bulk value here blows away most of the competition.

There’s only one other plan in our comparison engine that competes with 400GB+ of data, and that’s the $85 SIM Only Ultra+ Plan from Vodafone, which comes with unlimited max-speed data on the Vodafone 5G network. Check out these two plans side-by-side below.

If you’d prefer a dedicated Optus business plan, consider Optus Business Mobile Plus . This plan structure supports between one and 10 SIMs. There’s a 10% discount for two sims, 20% for three, 26% discount for four to seven SIMs, and a 30% discount for eight to 10. The plan starts at $55 for 80GB of data, and every SIM added boosts the shareable data pool by 80GB. Like personal Optus SIM Only plans, Optus Business Mobile Plus plans come with Optus 5G access, no excess data charges (1.5Mbps throttling after data cap) as well as unlimited calls and SMS to 35 selected destinations.

Optus business mobile features and perks

All Optus SIM Only and Prepaid plans come with unlimited calls and text messages (SMS and MMS) to Australian numbers. For Optus Prepaid monthly plans, you can roll over up to 200GB of data and up to 84 days if you recharge early. Not every Optus Prepaid plan includes Optus 5G network access, but all Optus SIM Only plans do. Optus SIM Only plans also include data sharing under a single account for eligible plans.

Except for the cheapest Optus SIM Only plan, all other options come with unlimited calls and SMS to 35 selected dialling destinations, which includes:

  • China (mainland)
  • New Zealand
  • South Korea
  • United Kingdom
  • United States of America

There aren’t any excess data charges for Optus SIM Only plans, but the trade-off is a sluggish 1.5Mbps connection speed for the duration of your billing month.

Optus is one of three main telecommunications providers in Australia, which offers mobile and broadband internet services. Its mobile network has the second largest reach (behind Telstra but ahead of Vodafone) and supports 5G, 4G and 3G cellular connectivity.

Optus business mobile support

We understand that one person’s support experience with a telco may differ from another’s, which is why we look to quantitative support pathways. Optus offers a wide range of support via telephone, online chat, social media, self-paced online support, as well as brick-and-mortar stores for in-person support.

Optus also has dedicated business support options for authorised representatives. Chat with Optus business support via online messaging service or call them on 133 343, Monday to Friday 8:00am to 7:00pm AEST or Sat and Sunday 8:00am to 6:00pm.

How to sign up for an Optus business mobile plan

From the list of Optus plans below, pick the plan that’s best for your business needs, then click on the ‘Go’ button. You’ll be taken to the corresponding Optus mobile plans page. Have a read over the inclusions and confirm the plan you’d like, then follow the sign-up steps. Alternatively, call Optus business mobile on 1300 106 481 for sales support.

Optus business mobile plans

Below is a list of all Optus SIM Only mobile plans (sorted by popularity).

How we review mobile providers

Whether we’re evaluating personal or business mobile plans from telcos, we follow the same approach. It starts with dollar-to-data value for money. Telcos that receive high scores tend to offer more gigabytes than the cost of a plan.

Still, network coverage is also a key consideration, which is why the Telstra and Telstra wholesale networks rank favourably with us as they’re the largest. Optus and Vodafone aren’t too far behind, admittedly, but the Telstra 5G network has a clear lead over Optus which, in turn, is ahead of Vodafone.

We like to see mobile plans with meaningful inclusions, be they access to additional services or more practical features like data sharing and no excess data charges. In terms of support, we tally the number of support pathways a telco offers and use that as a guide to how much a telco has invested in helping customers with issues. For personal mobile plans, we may also take publicly available customer reviews into account.

Optus business mobile FAQs

Optus Sport used to be included with Optus SIM Only plans, but now it’s a separate subscription. Sign up for Optus Sport via the Optus SubHub for $6.99 per month.

It really depends on what you’re after. Telstra business mobile plans may offer faster speeds via the widespread Telstra 5G network. Optus business mobile plans have better dollar-to-data value, but the Optus 5G network isn’t as far-reaching as Telstra’s.

Unlimited data mobile plans in Australia: which providers offer them and are they worth it?

Unlimited can have its limits, and limited can be limitless

Man and woman hugging whilst looking at phone, and standing in front of Sydney Harbour Bridge

If you’re a data-hungry phone user then you’ll likely be interested to learn that yes, there are in fact Australian phone plans that come with unlimited data. But, before we dive more deeply into which mobile carriers offer unlimited plans, we need to point out that they most come with some major caveats, and as such, there’s actually only one such plan we can recommend if you simply must have unlimited data: Felix Mobile’s AU$40p/m prepaid plan .

While other Australian mobile providers do technically have unlimited plans, they’re not really intended for that use. All these come with an initial capped amount of data (20GB for example) and while you won’t be cut off or charged any extra once you hit this cap, your data speeds will be severely slowed down. Of the six providers that offer unlimited data, five of them will slow your service to 2Mbps or worse. These five providers are Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Belong and Dodo. Dodo is by far the slowest of the bunch, limiting your download speed to a paltry 256Kbps when you hit your monthly data cap.

TPG-owned Felix Mobile is the only provider we can find that offers a reasonable-enough download speed (20Mbps) to make unlimited data worth it. Although 20Mbps still isn’t particularly fast, it will at least serve you far better than 2Mbps speeds.

However, Felix Mobile’s plan isn’t without its own caveats either. While it will certainly grant you truly unlimited data, that 20Mbps speed cap applies the entire time. The mobile carrier also uses parts of the Vodafone 4G network which, admittedly, isn’t as expansive as the networks of Optus or Telstra. You’ll want to factor this is in too when deciding if this unlimited mobile data plan is for you.

The other providers that don’t charge for excess data usage will give you higher-speed downloads until you reach your data cap. In some instances, these may still be speed capped, but at a more generous 100Mbps – 250Mbps. Felix Mobile does have two other SIM-only plans with data caps and no excess charges if you hit them, but if you do, your download speed will be reduced to 1.5Mbps.

Felix Mobile | 28 day expiry |  Unlimited data / calls / texts | No lock-in contract | AU$20p/mFELIX50

Felix Mobile | 28 day expiry |  Unlimited data / calls / texts | No lock-in contract | AU$20p/m (for 3 months using code FELIX50 , then AU$40p/m)

Felix is the only mobile provider in Australia with an unlimited data plan worth considering. The only sacrifice you need to make in return for unlimited data is to be OK with a maximum download speed of 20Mbps. If you use the code FELIX50 , you can save 50% off your plan for the first 3 months, and this could be a relatively inexpensive way to find out if 20Mbps download speeds will work for you.

High-data plans

Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.

If you know you need an obscene amount of data, but you also want that data to travel at fast speeds, then a high data plan may be more up your alley. Circles.life is still offering its 650GB mega data plan , although only for a limited time and only for the first 12 months. After 12 months has expired, this plan reverts to its regular 160GB data amount for the same AU$55 monthly cost.

While the Circles.life plan doesn’t put a speed cap on its bonkers data plan, it does only use parts of the Optus 4G Plus network, i.e. you will be inherently limited to the accessible speeds based on network infrastructure. If you want a large amount of data and the benefit of 5G speeds, then you’ll generally need to go directly to the major telcos.

Optus has a 500GB monthly SIM-only plan, with the most attractive aspect being you get 500GB as standard, compared to the Circles.life plan mentioned above which comes with 160GB standard data and 490GB of bonus data. You also get full access to Optus’ 5G network. Optus’ plan will set you back AU$69p/m for 12 months, before reverting to its regular cost of AU$89p/m.

You can view the most popular high data SIM-only plans in our comparison tool below. Do note that some of these plans are 365-day long-expiry plans, meaning the amount of included data is for use over a 12 month period, as opposed to a one month period.

Data banking

One other option you have to make sure you always have a healthy amount of data is data banking . Data banking is a feature that some mobile carriers offer that lets you keep any unused data from one month and carry it over into the next billing cycle. A good proportion of mobile carriers offer data banking in some capacity, although usually with a cap on how much data you can bank – this is usually between 200GB to 500GB.

However, there are a couple of providers that offer unlimited data banking, which effectively means you’ll never run out of data. Although, if you do manage to hit the original data cap on your plan, then you may need to pay extra to get more.

Amaysim | 28 day renewal | 80GB data | Unltd data banking | AU$20p/m

Amaysim | 28 day renewal | 80GB data | Unltd data banking | AU$20p/m (for first month, then AU$40p/m ongoing)

Amaysim is offering a generous amount of data, along with unlimited data banking, for not a lot of money right now. For AU$20 for your first month, you get 80GB of data and access to parts of the Optus 5G network (although download speeds are capped at 100Mbps) as well as unlimited international calls to 42 countries, which could be a major deciding factor for some users. Following the first month, the monthly cost increases to AU$40, which we think is still great value.

Other mobile carriers that offer unlimited data banking include Belong, Aldi Mobile and Felix. You can view the most popular plans with these providers in the comparison tool below below

Vodafone hits customers with increase to phone bills

Customers of one of Australia’s biggest telecommunications providers have been slapped with a price increase on their mobile phone plans.

The average person will own 18 phones across their lifetime, according to Vodafone

Vodafone customers could be forced to pay up to $48 more per year for their mobile phone plan following the latest price hike in the telecommunications industry.

Customers received an email on Wednesday afternoon notifying them of a $4 increase to their mobile plan, which would come into effect on March 27.

The email said the bill hike was required as the company invested in the network following an increase in the amount of usage on their network.

The company also reassured customers their monthly data allowance would increase alongside the bill.

“At Vodafone, we continue to invest in our network, technology platforms and security infrastructure to provide a better experience for our customers while handling an increasing amount of usage on our network,” Vodafone said in an email to customers.

“We are getting in touch to let you know about upcoming changes to your mobile plan.

“From March 27, the monthly plan fee of the plans outlined below will increase by $4 a month and the monthly data allowance on your account will increase.”

A Vodafone spokesperson said the increases would affect many of the existing postpaid mobile plans.

“These changes have been made in response to the continuing high costs of doing business and to support ongoing investments in our networks, technology, and security,” they said.

“Vodafone remains committed to offering great value to our customers.

“As part of these changes, we are increasing the monthly data allowance for most of the impacted postpaid plans so customers can continue browsing, streaming and enjoying all the activities they love on their mobile devices.”

Customers who have plans increasing will receive at least 10GB of extra data, with some customers to receive more than 60GB depending on their plan.

The increase comes after telco giant Telstra increased the price of phone packages by $2-6 per month last year, forcing Australian’s to pay up to $72 more for their phone plan every year.

Telstra customers were also hit with a similar increase to their phone bills last year. Picture: NCA NewsWire/Bianca De Marchi

At the time, Telstra small business executive Brad Whitcomb said the decision to raise costs was made in line with the annual consumer price index.

“Like most businesses in Australia, we are also responding to increasing costs,” Mr Whitcomb said.

“We know price rises can be hard for some people, especially when cost of living pressures are high.

“We want to be clear on why we’re doing this and what’s available if you need support.

“Increasing our prices means we can continue investing in the things that matter for our customers.”

Business.org’s 5 best business cell phone plans

At&t: best full-featured plans.

Looking for a broad choice of bells and whistles? As a telecom behemoth, AT&T has plenty of cell phone features and packages to offer businesses—around 20 plan variations, small to large. All plans include free US roaming, unlimited talk and text messages, as well as unlimited texting outside of the country. Basic features like call forwarding, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, and conference calling also come standard with all AT&T business cell phone plans, along with bring-your-own-phone support.

AT&T's business cell phone plans

Data as of 2/6/24. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.

Business Unlimited plan prices start at $30 a month per line when you sign up for 6+ lines, or $60 a month for one line. Data is unlimited, but speeds may slow down after reaching the GB included in each plan.

AT&T business plans can also accommodate up to 10 lines per account, and they come fully loaded with perks like AT&T ActiveArmor SM mobile security and Video Management. Video Management automatically optimizes streaming video on your phone to 480p so you can watch webinars on the go without dealing with a blurry picture.

Each plan also includes a decent array of iOS and Android smartphone options and even a few good old flip phones. Users can save money when bundling AT&T-owned DIRECTV services (because, again, telecom behemoth). Military veterans can also qualify for a 25% discount on Business Unlimited plans.

Users are eligible for a discount if they elect for autopay and paperless billing, but this discount is only applied until after two pay periods. We don't know why the discount cannot be applied earlier in the billing process, but we do find it frustrating.

T-Mobile: Best flexible plans

Not sure exactly what you’ll need in a mobile plan besides future adaptability? T-Mobile, the third-largest wireless service in the US, offers three business plans, all packed with unique features that set T-Mobile apart from the rest. The German-owned company has also earned a reputation for stellar customer service and was the first to eliminate annual contracts (an idea that stuck—none of the plans reviewed on this page require contracts). In April 2018, the company announced its intention to merge with Sprint under the T-Mobile banner.

T-Mobile's business cell phone plans

Data as of 2/6/24. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change. *Price available with 6+ lines

All of T-Mobile’s Business cell phone plans offer the same basic features:

  • Unlimited talk and text
  • Unlimited 5G and 4G LTE data on their network
  • Unlimited mobile hotspot
  • Scam Shield
  • Unlimited calling and texting to Mexico & Canada
  • Unlimited video streaming

In addition, all T-Mobile Business plans include DIGITS, an app that allows you to access up to five phone numbers on a single device. That means you could answer calls to your work number and personal number on one device—no more packing two phones in your bag every day. DIGITS also lets you share your phone number across multiple devices, so you can answer on your phone, smartwatch, tablet, or computer.

T-Mobile’s Business plans cover up to 12 lines. If you need more than 12 lines, you’ll need to sign up for the Enterprise Phone Plan (13+ lines). This includes a fixed rate of $285 per month for 13 lines, plus $25 per month for each additional line.

T-Mobile plans also allow bring-your-own-device convenience, or you can buy phones upfront with a single payment (there are nearly 40 iOS and Android phones to choose from).

I couldn't find solid info verifying this pricing so I'm not sure if it's still accurate

Now that T-Mobile and Sprint have been merged for almost six months, some significant changes have taken effect. T-Mobile’s website is now the only place businesses can sign up for Sprint or T-Mobile business phone accounts.

Sprint still has an active business website for previous users but all new plans will be sold by T-Mobile on its website.

Verizon: Best growing business plans

Serving over 150 million customers, Verizon isn’t just big, it’s BIG. Such a mobile mammoth might not seem like the obvious choice for a small business, but for what it lacks in a personalized customer service reputation, Verizon more than makes up for by offering every cell phone feature there is, as well as dominant US, and near-dominant global, coverage. Like McDonald’s and Marvel movies, Verizon is everywhere.

Verizon's business cell phone plans

Data as of 2/6/24. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change. *With 5+ lines

While business owners can get business cell phone plans with limited data, we recommend choosing an unlimited plan if you have multiple employees (or do a lot of work via cell phone).

Verizon’s Business Unlimited cell phone plans are scalable for multiple employees. With plans starting at just $30 per line, Verizon Business Unlimited plans are an attractive option, whether you’re running a tiny company with no expansion plans, a medium-sized business with an eye toward growth, or a large enterprise with heavy cell phone requirements.

Verizon Business Unlimited Plus and Pro plans also include a TravelPass (2–4 days per month), so you can do business around the world. Each plan also includes unlimited calling and texting to Mexico and Canada.

Verizon doesn’t skimp on device choices either. There are nearly 100 iOS and Android phones and tablets available—including the Verizon Orbic Speed, a mobile hotspot device that can connect 10 devices to an 802.11 ac Wi-Fi network.

If your company requires truly “unlimited” cell phone service and scalability to grow, and is in the position to pay for functionality with frills, Verizon Business Unlimited is the way to go. Bare-bones operations, however, might want to look elsewhere.

Each of our recommendations has its strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes the most difficult part about finding a phone system is determining exactly what you need and don't need. The best place to start is separating your needs between installing a new system, replacing a system, or expanding an existing system.

If you are having trouble sorting out exactly what your phone needs are, use this tool to help you understand what the best options are for your unique needs.

MintMobile: Most affordable plans

We are sure you’ve seen the commercials with Ryan Reynolds talking about this phone carrier business with a fox logo called Mint Mobile. In fact, a lot of Mint customers were drawn to Mint because of Ryan Reynolds's Hollywood looks, but that’s not the only thing Mint has to offer.

Mint is inexpensive and transparent, compared to other cell phone carriers with hidden fees and seemingly random regulations.

MintMobile's business cell phone plans

These are the prices for new customers and will last up to three months. After the third month, you are eligible to sign up for a 3, 6, or 12-month contract on one of the tiered plans, all $35/mo/user or under, which is astronomically less than other providers.

MintMobile is no fuss, and you really do feel like you must be tricking the rest of the world with its pricing. The only issue is that MintMobile is an online company, and coverage is not completely everywhere yet. There are still some coverage gaps in the West, namely Nevada, Idaho, and Arizona. If you live east of the Rocky Mountains, you are good to go!

Teltik: Best perks plans

If you’re a strapped startup, New Jersey’s Teltik can get you up and running on the cheap. Teltik is a reseller service operating on T-Mobile’s 4G LTE and 5G network, meaning it can offer the reliability and reach of a giant provider at smaller-company prices. Teltik also has the advantage of being completely US-based, with 24/7 local customer service that’s not outsourced overseas.

Teltik's business cell phone plans

3 more (non-business) cell phone plans reviewed by business.org.

Teltik appears to have a dozen plans, but they’re mostly just variations of the essential plan that offers all the expected basics. Not coincidentally, the features mirror those of T-Mobile, as they’re on the same network.

The most basic plan starts at $20 a month and includes unlimited calling and texting, mobile hotspot service, and unlimited data—with a 2 GB cap on 5G speeds (meaning your speed gets throttled to 128 Kbps if you use more than 2 GB of data in a month). From there, you can upgrade your plan to include more 4G or 5G data and more mobile hotspot data. Upgraded plans cost anywhere from $30 to $40 per month, and they all include one cloud-phone VoIP line—perfect for small businesses looking to save on all their telecommunications needs.

One distinctly entertaining feature (pun intended) of Teltik’s business plans? You get unlimited media streaming from over 40 music services (including Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music) and more than 100 video services (including YouTube, Netflix, and any other channel you can think of). That means you can stream as much TV as you want without it eating into your data. It’s almost as if Teltik doesn’t want you to get any work done.

Another thing you need to know: Teltik doesn’t sell phones. Instead, the company operates on a strict bring-your-own-device basis. Any unlocked phone will work with its network, as will any T-Mobile device, of course. However, you will have to spend $10 plus shipping and handling to buy a new SIM card for each of your devices (unless they’ve already got brand-new, unused T-Mobile SIM cards).

Boost Mobile

The takeaway

Assess your company’s current cell phone usage and projected future needs before diving into any plan. What looks like a great deal could turn out to be more than you actually need—or you may have initially underestimated your business’s cell phone requirements. Also, if your company has both cell phone and regular office phone needs, look into bundling. The larger telecom providers offer both types of phone coverage, and bundling services is an easy way to save money in the long run.

Don’t want to carry around separate phones for work and personal calls? With the right VoIP service, you don’t have to. Check out our favorite business VoIP providers to see which ones offer on-the-go business phone capabilities.

Business cell phone plan FAQs

If you have several employees working outside of the office on a regular basis, desk-bound phones obviously aren’t going to work for them. Some may be only calling and texting while others will be checking email, using GPS navigation, and accessing the internet for work, but a cell phone is a must for employees in the field.

If you’re a one-person operation accountable to only yourself, you could get by with a personal cell plan. Keeping track of multiple employees’ hours, data, and providers, however, would be an extra headache you don’t need. For streamlining and collaboration purposes, a business cell phone plan would be the easier route.

Most of the plans we’ve reviewed here offer unlimited data—domestically, at least—so hitting the data ceiling won’t likely be an issue. But if you want to forecast how much data your business uses every month, or want to figure out how much premium data you’ll need, providers make data plan estimators available on their websites. Or you could use a third-party calculator app.

BYOD stands for bring your own device . Another common term is BYOP for bring your own phone . This means that employees are using their personal phones, tablets, or laptops on their own carrier plans for work or that they’ve put those devices on the company’s plan. The upside? It’s less expensive than buying devices. The downside? Extra security concerns.

In the annoying absence of Wi-Fi, you can use a cell phone signal to connect a wireless device to the internet by switching on the mobile hotspot option and simply treating it like a Wi-Fi router. For multiple device connections, a dedicated hotspot (such as Verizon’s Orbic Speed ) can provide a faster, and more stable, connection.
