Mass Effect 1: How to Start Tali Pilgrimage Mission

mass effect tali mission

Mass Effect 1 doesn’t have loyalty missions in the same way that Mass Effect 2 offers them. That said, it does have special personal assignments that are similar. Tali, like Wrex and Garrus , has an assignment that Shepard can take on if they choose, however, it’s completely optional and missable. Here’s what you need to know about how to start Tali’s personal assignment mission, Tali and the Geth, to complete her Pilgrimage .

How to Start & Complete Tali Pilgrimage Mission in Mass Effect 1

Unlike the missions for Wrex and Garrus, Tali’s personal mission assignment isn’t tied to speaking with her after missions. It’s actually sort of hidden within an otherwise normal assignment that doesn’t initially appear connected to Tali.

UNC: Geth Incursions Assignment

To start and complete Tali’s pilgrimage mission, you need to first pick up and complete the assignment UNC: Geth Incursions. The easiest way to do this is by traveling to the Armstrong Nebula via the Galaxy Map. Once you do that you’ll get a transmission from Admiral Hackett and you’re free to get started on it.

It’s a rather straightforward assignment. Travel to the below systems and planets, and clear out the Geth outposts located there.

After that, you’ll receive an additional Outpost to clear out on Solcrum within the Grissom system. In the outpost, in a room, there will be a data terminal where you can collect Geth Data. This will start the assignment Tali and the Geth.

Tali and the Geth Assignment

After you’ve done that, all you need to do is return to Tali on your ship and there will be an option to hand the data over to her.

You can refuse and get some renegade points if you want (although I question why you went through all this then if you were going to pick this). Or, you can give it to her, get some Paragon points instead, and have her thanks as she will use this as a gift for her Pilgrimage.

If you complete this later on, in Mass Effect 2, if you handed over the Geth Data, it will lead to a smoother and more pleasant reunion of the two when they first meet. It’s not a huge deal, but if you like Tali and want her to like your Shepard more to get some friendlier dialog, go ahead and turn it over.

That’s all you need to know about how to start Tali’s personal assignment mission, Tali and the Geth, and complete her Pilgrimage in Mass Effect 1 . For more tips, tricks and FAQs answered be sure to check out our  wiki guide  that is filled with helpful guides.

Mass Effect 2: How to Earn Tali's Loyalty

When the Quarian Migrant Fleet's Admiralty Board charges Tali with treason, it's up to Shepard to help her plead her case and find the truth.

Mass Effect 's modern Quarians have all spent the entirety of their lives aboard the Migrant Fleet. When coming of age, they set forth on a Pilgrimage to find something of value to contribute to the ship they wished to join upon return. Tali'Zorah vas Rayya was on her Pilgrimage when she first met Commander Shepard , and the deeds they accomplished together while stopping Saren and his army of Geth made her a valuable asset to the fleet.

Unfortunately, her fascination with Geth technology seems to have gotten her into trouble with the Admiralty Board, who've accused her of treason. It is their belief she sent active Geth tech to her father, and it was that very tech which had overrun a ship within the fleet called the Alarei. With Shepard as her defense lawyer, Tali meets with the Migrant Fleet to plead her case, but circumstances aren't as black and white as she believes them to be.

Tali's loyalty mission walkthrough Mass Effect 2

Tali informs Shepard that she's being brought up on charges of treason and needs to return to the Migrant Fleet to face trial. Travel to meet with the Quarian Fleet, where the first opportunity for morality points is offered upon boarding the Rayya. If they board without Legion , Shepard tells Captain Kar'Danna vas Rayya that they owe Tali a great deal for +2 Paragon. With Legion in the party, there is a Renegade interrupt that will grant +5 points. If not taken, Shepard can gain +2 Paragon for saying "calm down," or +2 Renegade for saying, "it's called Legion." An additional +5 Paragon can be earned for noting that if they shoot Legion, they will have to shoot Shepard too, +2 Renegade for saying they will shoot Legion themselves or +2 Paragon for saying they will replace Legion with another squadmember.

Aboard the Rayya, Tali greets Admiral Shala'Raan, who calls her Tali'Zorah vas Normandy and notes that is how she's been referred to since she joined Shepard. There are multiple opportunities for morality points in conversation with Shala'Raan, with the more diplomatic and charming options netting Paragon points and the aggressive, defensive dialogue earning Renegade points , especially when learning that as the "captain" of Tali's ship, Shepard is considered her defense lawyer and must speak on her behalf.

When the hearing starts, the admiral unloads Tali's crime, telling everyone about the Geth that have overrun the Alarei, the lab ship Tali's father worked on, and accuses her of sending active Geth technology to him. Tali's immediate worry becomes her father. The trial takes a recess until the Alarei has been recovered, and before disembarking to head to the ship, walk through the room and speak with various members of the Admiralty Board, as well as Kal'Reegar and Veetor, who are there to speak on Tali's behalf. This gives insight into the leanings of the board members and +2 Paragon is earned from telling Veetor to feel better.

Mass Effect 2 Mission: Take Back the Alarei Walkthrough

Mass Effect 2 looting

Two Geth Troopers wait in the first room on the Alarei. They are quickly joined by more, as well as two Geth Hunters, who cloak themselves. Take out the Hunters before they arrive at point blank range. Grab the med-kit, the two laptops (worth 1500 and 1800 credits), the power cells and view the Quarian log to learn that Admiral Rael'Zorah ordered his people to bypass the safety protocols.

Related: Mass Effect 2: How to Earn Thane's Loyalty

Advance to the medbay down the hall and grab the medi-gel before hacking the terminal there for 4200 credits. There is also a Repair Drone in the room that Tali sent to her father. Accessing it will prompt her to talk about it and the safety protocols she always used when sending him tech. Head further down the hallway to find a small room with a hackable terminal that holds the Geth Shield Strength research upgrade. There is another Quarian log in the hallway that displays a researcher realizing that the ship's computer systems have been infiltrated by Geth.

In the next room, a Geth Hunter enters from the stairs at the rear. Grab the two laptops (worth 1800 and 2100 credits) and hack the wall safe near the stairs for 4200 credits. There is another Quarian log showing a researcher's final moments before the Geth overran them. Head up the stairs and prepare for another close-quarters combat fight in the chemistry lab. After taking out the Geth, grab the crate of refined palladium and the medi-gel before heading into the next room.

The wall console prompts a conversation with Tali about her father's promise to build her a house on their homeworld. She is afraid that the research he's been doing was an attempt to fulfill that promise that went horribly wrong. In this conversation, there are options for morality points, with a Shepard encouraging Tali to find another world yielding +2 Paragon, while telling her to take back their homeworld from the Geth brings +2 Renegade. Bypass the wall safe for 3000 credits before moving on to fight the Geth Hunters, Troopers and Combat Drones in the next room. At the bottom of the landing there is another console that confirms Rael'Zorah's plans to take back the Quarian homeworld, as well as medi-gel and two laptops (worth 1800 and 2400 credits).

Just beyond the room, Tali sees the dead body of her father, and rushes to him. As she tries to convince herself he isn't dead, Shepard can use the Paragon interrupt to comfort her for +5 points. If the interrupt isn't used, they can grab +2 Paragon for saying it wasn't his choice, or +2 Renegade for promising the Geth will pay. Additional Renegade points are available for noting that the Geth cut him off or Paragon for noting he did what he could.

At the top of the stairs above his body is the final fight, which features a difficult Geth Prime, Hunters and Troopers. Once the battle is complete, grab Quarian model ship and the laptop worth 3000 credits, and access the evidence. Talk to Tali, who asks Shepard to help her hide the evidence they found from the Admiralty Board to protect her father's reputation. +2 Paragon can be earned here for saying he wanted to keep his promise to her, or Renegade for either saying they found the evidence they need or that sounded bad.

Mass Effect 2 Mission: Resuming the Trial Walkthrough

Mass Effect 2 Tali Treason

Back on the Rayya, the trial resumed without them. Shepard can earn +2 Paragon for telling them to pardon Tali, or +2 Renegade for telling them they should have waited. With a high enough Paragon or Renegade, Shepard can gain +30 Paragon points for telling the board they don't need evidence to know Tali is a valuable and loyal person who would never harm her people, or +30 Renegade for telling them they're wasting everyone's time. Shepard can also lie, if their Paragon isn't high enough, telling them they found no evidence for +30 Paragon, or hand over what they found on Rael'Zorah for +30 Renegade.

After the trial, Shepard can earn additional morality points in dialogue with members of the board and other Quarians they are familiar with, including Veetor. Upon returning to the Normandy , if Shepard exonerated Tali without dragging her father through the mud, she will be confident and loyal. If her father's reputation was ruined by the evidence, she will not be at peak capacity for the suicide mission.

Mass Effect 2: Every Possible Outcome Of Tali’s Trial

Here are all of the outcomes of Tali's Trial in her loyalty mission for Mass Effect 2.

Mass Effect 2 includes some excellent loyalty missions, and the one for Tali is arguably the best . In her quest, she stands trial for allegedly sending active Geth to the Migrant Fleet. Before proceedings get underway, you accompany her to the Alarei, which is the ship that her father was serving on and where she sent the supposed active Geth parts.

RELATED: Mass Effect: The Reasons Tali Is The Best Companion In The Trilogy

While clearing the place out, you find evidence that clears her name but implicates Rael'Zorah (her father). Afterward, the trial continues, and while Tali asks you not to reveal the evidence against her dad, it's up to you how the hearing plays out. Here are all of the possible outcomes.

Let Tali Be Exiled

Mass Effect 2 Screenshot Of Tali Being Exiled

It's possible for Tali to be exiled from the Quarian Fleet and never allowed to return again . To get this outcome, you need to say "We Have No Evidence" when prompted. With nothing to defend Tali, the Admiralty Board will find her guilty and give her six hours to leave the fleet forever.

On the bright side, she will appreciate that you didn't snitch on her father, and you'll keep her loyalty . Yet, in ME3, she won't be on the Admiralty Board, which could lead to disastrous results for the Quarians or Geth .

Save Tali But Incriminate Her Father

Mass Effect 2 Screenshot Of Shepard Providing Evidence During Tali's Trial

If you want Tali to remain a member of the fleet , you can share the evidence that incriminates her father. By choosing "Yes. Here Is The Evidence," Shepard will play the recording of Rael'Zorah where he explains what he was doing and how his daughter had no part in it.

RELATED: Mass Effect: The Hardest Decisions You Have To Make In The Games (& What Comes Next)

In response, the Admiralty Board posthumously exiles Tali's dad while clearing her of all charges . Naturally, Tali will be upset at your actions and you won't gain her loyalty . To make matters worse, the reveal of Rael'Zorah's misdeeds will cause friction within the Admiralty Board, according to Tali. However, keeping the Quarian a part of the fleet helps you broker peace between her people and the Geth in the next game .

Save Both Tali And Her Father's Reputation

Mass Effect 2 Screenshot Of Admiral Clearing Tali's Charges

It is possible to keep Rael'Zorah's reputation intact while stopping Tali from being exiled . As this is the best outcome for all parties, it takes a bit more work to achieve. Yet, there are two ways to do it.

Use Charm Or Intimidate

Mass Effect 2 Screenshot Of Shepard Defending Tali

If you have the required morality points during the trial, you'll be able to pick a Charm ("I don't need evidence") or Intimidate ("you're wasting your time") dialog option . Shepard will then give an impassioned speech, possibly about the Board using Tali's trial for political reasons.

RELATED: Mass Effect: Should Shepard Go Paragon Or Renegade?

The Commander's words convince the Admiralty Board to drop all charges against Tali and her father . So, your Quarian friend remains a part of the fleet and becomes loyal to you .

Rally The Crowd

Mass Effect 2 Screenshot Of Veetor and Kal'Reegar

Another way to help Tali is to get the crowd on your side. However, "Rally the crowd" will only be an option if you do these things first :

  • At the end of Freedom's Progress, allow Veetor to go with Tali .
  • On Haestrom (during Dossier: Tali), convince Kal'Reegar to stand down instead of attacking the Geth Colossus.
  • Speak to the Admirals before leaving to retake the Alarei (during this loyalty mission).

These actions will allow you to rally the crowd, which will persuade Veetor and Kal'Reegar to come forward and defend Tali . The others will then side with them, and the Board will clear Tali of all charge s. As a result, she'll avoid exile and be loyal to you .

Mass Effect 2 Tali Trial walkthrough: how to stop Tali being exiled in Treason, her loyalty mission

Mass Effect 2  gives you twelve squad members to fill the Normandy - and each of them has a personal problem that needs to resolved if you want to have them working at maximum capacity. For returning friend Tali , this takes the form of her being put on trial for treason in a mission of the same name.

Of all of the various Mass Effect 2 loyalty missions , Tali's trial is the one that can have some of the most varied outcomes, with exactly what opens that are open to Shepard depending in part on your actions in some of ME2's earlier missions. The ultimate goal is to make Tali loyal, which ensures she's ready to tackle the ME2 Suicide Mission while keeping everybody alive , as Tali has a key role she can play in that mission. It's quite easy to make Tali loyal out of this mission - but the easiest paths also see Tali exiled from her home, which obviously isn't an ideal outcome, especially if you're wanting to have Tali as your romance choice in ME2 .

With that in mind, on this guide we quickly run down how to prevent Tali from being exiled during her trial in her Mass Effect 2 loyalty mission. Here goes:

mass_effect_2_tali_trial_treason_exile_guide.jpg

Treason: how to prevent Tali being exiled in her Trial

Once Tali's loyalty mission pops, Kelly will inform you that she has received a message from home and is upset. The mission will then take you to the Quarian Flotilla Fleet, which is her race's home in lieu of having a home planet of their own. Going to the fleet is especially exciting, especially for those who got to know Tali in the first Mass Effect and heard all about her home - now you can see it first-hand!

When exactly you do this loyalty mission is up to you, but we do have a suggestion or two about where it might best slot into the story in our Mass Effect 2 Mission Order page. When you start the mission and head to the fleet, it turns out Tali is on trial and must defend herself.

As well as the trial itself, this mission will include some combat encounters with the Geth. Bring characters with tech abilities with you who can hack and disrupt the artificially intelligent foes. Tali will be with you by default, but bringing along someone like Garrus, Kasumi, or even Legion (if you're doing this mission very late, which is inadvisable) will be a strong choice. Overload and Disruptor Ammo are your biggest friends in this mission.

We recommend that you take time to talk to everyone in full at every phase of this quest. There's a lot of unique dialogue here, and it'll give you fascinating information about one of the most interesting races in the Mass Effect universe - and also, in some cases, give you context that'll help you navigate Tali's trial.

Once you finish the combat section of the mission and return to the main ship for the trial with your evidence, you have a few options. You can now prove Tali's innocence, but doing so will incriminate Tali's father - which she pleads with you not to do. Here's the ways you can break down the trial, and what happens if you do them:

  • To end the mission without securing Tali's loyalty , you simply have to present the evidence. This will prove that Tali is innocent, but ruin her father's reputation forever. She'll remain in your squad but will not be loyal, and will therefore put her life and the lives of others at risk in the Suicide Mission.
  • To secure Tali's loyalty but end with her exiled , you simply have to refuse to present the evidence, instead lying and saying you didn't find anything. Tali will be found guilty of treason and exiled from the fleet, but she will be loyal to Shepard and the Normandy crew for the ending.
  • First, you can use Paragon/Charm and Renegade/Intimidate dialogue options to impress the judges of the trial with an account of Tali's upstanding character. You will of course need morality points in one direction or the other to do this. This sees her exonerated without ruining her father's reputation.
  • Second, you can convince the judges of the trial without charm or intimidate if you made certain choices earlier in the story. Specifically, you must have returned Veetor the Quarian to the Flotilla back in the game's second mission on Freedom's Progress, rather than returning him to Cerberus. Then, when recruiting Tali, you need to ensure the Quarian Kal'Reegar survives the mission. Finally, you must speak to the various admirals in depth, learning their motivations and feelings. You can then use all of this to persuade them to drop the charges against Tali and end the trial.

Aside from helping to determine her status for the Suicide Mission and therefore adjusting the probability of her survival, the specifics of this mission have no major repercussions in Mass Effect 3.

Screen Rant

Mass effect 2: how to secure tali's loyalty.

Tali's Loyalty mission in Mass Effect 2 is one of several that can be failed. Shepard will need to avoid sharing any new evidence during the trial.

Each of the 12 squadmates Shepard picks up in Mass Effect 2 has an individual side mission they will ask Shepard to help them complete. These missions, while optional, help prevent each character from facing any distractions and make them fully committed to the mission, increasing their chances of survival. The Loyalty missions across the Mass Effect trilogy tend to be some of the most fun side missions and can give Shepard a chance to get to know and bond with their crew. They also provide additional lore to the story and serve as trigger points for romances . For most squadmates in Mass Effect 2 , it is simply enough for Shepard to complete the mission, regardless of actions taken or choices made during the experience. Some squadmates' missions can be failed, however, depending on Shepard's actions and choices. Tali'Zorah's Loyalty mission is one of those with a fail condition.

During the mission Tali: Treason , Shepard and Tali will find incriminating evidence about her father's experiments with the Geth. Such information could get his legacy erased posthumously, something Tali would like to avoid, even if it means she is exiled in the process. There are several possible endings to this mission, each with certain consequences for the Mass Effect 2 endgame Suicide Mission and the events of Mass Effect 3 . Once secured, Tali's Loyalty can also still be lost depending on how Shepard handles her fight with Legion later in the game. Players will need to be careful and strategic to ensure she remains loyal and has the best chance of survival. Here's how to make Tali Loyal in Mass Effect 2 .

How to Complete Tali's Loyalty Mission Successfully in Mass Effect 2

mass effect tali mission

Players unlock Tali's Loyalty mission in Mass Effect 2 sometime after saving and recruiting her on Haestrom. Yeoman Kelly Chambers will alert them that Tali received a message that upset her and wanted to talk. Shepard can meet her in Engineering to learn she has been put on trial for treason. If convicted, the punishment is exile. Shepard will go with her to the Migrant Fleet to clear her name.

Tali's Loyalty mission has one of the more demanding Paragon/Renegade checks in the entire game, so this mission is often best saved for last, just before going to retrieve the Reaper IFF and starting the run to the endgame. While players can technically complete it wherever they want to, waiting will give them access to the greatest number of dialogue options for roleplaying their unique Shepard's reactions to the situation.

Long before this mission, players will want to have saved two particular quarians. First, they will need to let Veetor return with Tali rather than be taken to Cerberus for interrogation during the Prologue mission on Freedom's Progress. Then, they will need to ensure Kal'Reegar survives the encounter on Haestrom by ordering him to stand down against the Geth Colossus. This ensures that, even if Shepard's morality score isn't high enough to unlock the Charm/Intimidate dialogue options, they still have a way to clear Tali of all charges.

Mass Effect Tali quarian close-up

After fighting through the Geth in the Alarei and returning to the Rayya to complete the trial, Shepard will be asked to present new evidence to the Admiralty Board. It is important that Shepard avoids sharing the evidence of Tali's father's crimes found on the Alarei. While doing so clears Tali of all charges, it will traumatize her and lose her Loyalty.

Instead, Shepard can select one of four options, each with a slightly different outcome:

  • Use the Charm Dialogue Option : With a high enough Paragon score, Shepard delivers an impassioned speech about Tali's character and shames the Admirals for using Tali as a pawn to play politics. Tali is cleared of all charges and becomes Loyal, and Shepard earns Paragon points.
  • Use the Intimidate Dialogue Option : With a high enough Renegade score, Shepard tells the Admirals off, publicly shaming them for their sham trial. Tali is cleared of all charges and becomes Loyal, and Shepard earns Renegade points.
  • Rally the Crowd : If Veetor and Kal'Reegar were saved, Shepard can use this option to work up the crowd, convincing both men to step up and testify in Tali's favor. Tali is cleared of all charges and becomes Loyal. No morality points gained.
  • Lie About Evidence : If all else fails, Shepard can lie and tell the Admirals they found no new evidence. Tali is convicted and exiled but still becomes Loyal. Shepard earns a few Paragon points. This option may prevent Shepard from brokering peace between the Geth and quarians in Mass Effect 3 .

Once Tali's Loyalty has been secured, Shepard will need to be careful to use the Charm/Intimidate dialogue option to avoid taking sides during her fight with Legion. Should Shepard take Legion's side in the argument, Tali's Loyalty will be lost. It is possible to regain her Loyalty in a later conversation, but the check for this is extremely demanding. Once Tali's loyalty has been lost, a male Shepard will no longer be able to romance Tali in Mass Effect 2 or Mass Effect 3 , regardless of whether it is regained later.

Loyalty missions are on of the core mechanics of the Mass Effect series, developing relationships and impacting story lines across all the different games. They can also be vitally important for romances in the series. In this guide, we will run through Tali’s loyalty mission in Mass Effect 2, and the best way to prepare and pass it.

Because you don’t want to exclusively rely on being able to pass Paragon and Renegade checks, there are two things you should do while playing through the game. First, make sure that you send Veetor with Tali at the start of the campaign. You will also need to ensure a Quarian called Kal’Reegar survives on Haestrom. Players will need to convince him to not fight a Geth Colossus on Haestrom. This will ensure that both characters are present during Tali’s trial for treason.

It is also a good idea to do Tali’s loyalty mission last so that players have as many Renegade or Paragon points as possible before doing it. This will give them the largest potential pool of dialogue options. This mission is not just about clearing Tali of all charges, it is also about keep her loyalty.

Players have a number of options they can take during the trial, and one that they should absolutely avoid at all costs.

  • Renegade/Paragon Charm tests – if their points are high enough, players will have access to charm/intimidate options that will win the day for Tali.
  • Veetor and Kal’Reegar – players who have done the right thing for both characters can convince them to speak up for Tali.
  • Lying – it is possible for players to lie about the evidence against Tali. Tali will be convicted and exiled, but she will become Loyal to Shepherd, it does have a knock on effect in Mass Effect 3 that reduces options, however.

The main thing that players should not do is include any evidence against Tali’s father. This will cause her to lose Loyalty to Shepherd.

Unique dialogue [ ].

Throughout Shepard's travels, there are specific points where Tali will voice her opinions.

  • On Citadel: Signal Tracking , when Shepard asks the AI if the matter can be resolved peacefully Tali vehemently disagrees: "How can you say that to this thing? You know it will turn on us!"
  • If Saracino expresses support for humanity's right to express opinions at gunpoint, Tali deems the First Contact War a misunderstanding and provides as an analogy the notion of stopping a child about to touch a gun.
  • If Shepard belittles Saracino's lack of comparable military experience, he argues that as a politician he can tell people why they should support the Commander's actions. Tali pessimistically thinks he would ask for a picture with Shepard so that he can show people how close he is to the military.
  • In the docking bay, if Shepard says they are with the Alliance Navy, Captain Matsuo comments that the Commander is far from home, to which Tali responds, "Home is a state of mind." If Wrex is not the other companion, when both sides draw their weapons and either the top or middle dialogue options are chosen to diffuse the confrontation, Tali states her intention to hide behind the Commander, nervously wondering if their armor is in good condition.
  • When Administrator Anoleis mentions that Benezia was escorted by an Asari Commando squad, Tali questions why they didn't mind their presence while giving Shepard's squad flak.
  • While talking to Lorik Qui'in about Matriarch Benezia , Qui'in will comment on her outfit and the reaction it had with the younger males. If Tali is in the party, she notes "young males of all species have strange ideas of what the asari are like."
  • During Noveria: Lorik Qui'in , if Shepard helps Qui'in by retrieving evidence of corruption and is confronted by Kaira Stirling afterward, she will tell the Commander "You know what we did to cop killers on my world?", prompting Tali to ask if they should feel bad for stopping her when they are working off-duty for bribes to break the law.
  • If Shepard has the spacer background and asks if Anoleis has a problem with spacers, Anoleis will claim that transient populations provide "unreliable consumer bases" and that they are "tax dodgers." Tali quips she had no idea they were so troubling to his bottom line.
  • During Noveria: Matriarch Benezia , after the geth ambush at the garage Maeko Matsuo arrives at the scene. If she was told they now know what to look for, she wonders what changed since everybody knows the geth haven't left the Perseus Veil in 3 centuries. Tali tells her evolution happened—the same thing that happens to all species.
  • When talking with Mira about activating the neutron purge , Tali responds with an important safety tip: "Don't press big red buttons."
  • When Gavin Hossle describes the danger in recovering his data, Tali says to Shepard, "what is it about you that makes people think we enjoy being in harm's way?"
  • When meeting the Thorian for the first time, Tali falters in her line of thinking and is suddenly speechless at its appearance: "Keelah, what is that?"
  • On Therum , when the squad is in urgent need of an escape plan Tali exclaims that Joker needs to go faster.

Talk to Squadmate [ ]

  • Tali mentions the quarians have tried to create organic environments back on the flotilla but could never do anything this big.
  • At the Council's chambers, Tali grumbles about the Council's inaction when the quarians petitioned them to wipe out the geth 300 years prior. If Kaidan, Ashley, Garrus or Wrex is there they'll say "Maybe if they listened we wouldn't be here now."
  • Tali marvels at the empty space and how a thousand quarians could live there and hardly ever see each other.
  • Tali marvels at how there is a lake in the space station and doesn't want to imagine the resources needed to mantain it.
  • Tali mentions her people used to have an embassy on the Citadel before they created the geth and were no longer welcome.
  • At the Krogan Monument , Tali observes that even though the krogan rebelled against the Council they still have a statue, yet the quarians continue to be viewed as outcasts.
  • At the Relay Monument , Tali muses that the Protheans understood the aesthetic value of the mass relays : a view the quarians have learned to appreciate during their wanderings.
  • Tali deems the ambient music at Flux interesting, wondering if she can find a copy to bring back to the flotilla.
  • At Chora's Den , Tali shares her people's high regard for dancers. However, she gets the feeling the dancers at the Den aren't held in high esteem.
  • On the catwalk of the Normandy 's docking bay , Tali is honored to be among the crew of the Normandy, declaring it an amazing ship.

Spontaneous [ ]

Sometimes Tali will say something spontaneously, without being prompted.

  • When seeing the first guarded outpost Tali observes that knocking down the front door seems stupid. She suggests looking for a side window.
  • In the Prothean Ruins before the first elevator, Tali states "It looks like this cavern formed around the ruin. After it was built."
  • On Ilos , after speaking with Vigil , Tali makes a rather sad comment on how the Protheans were defeated trying to fight against rogue machines and how it is similar to what happened between the quarians and the geth.
  • During UNC: Lost Module on Eletania , if the Space Monkeys are killed instead of being searched for the module, Tali comments on it: "That was a little extreme... wasn't it?"

  • Once Shepard retrieves the FBA Couplings for Gabby and Kenneth on the Normandy, they will offer to play Poker. If Tali has been recruited, Kenneth will ask if she's in. She'll respond "Sure, sounds like fun." Shepard could charm and win 500 credits out of the game, she would comment that they should "never underestimate Shepard." If Shepard uses intimidate to win, she would tease Kenneth for taking Shepard's threats seriously. In case Shepard chooses not to charm or intimidate Kenneth but announces that they intend to play for keeps, Tali will say "Oh no, what did I get myself into?" and after Shepard wins 100 credits she will remark: "And I thought I had a good poker face."

  • In Zakera Ward , asking Captain Bailey about his abusing suspects results in his defending himself by claiming a need for tough discipline in the streets. Tali notes that this sounds like a certain turian they know .
  • If the Council was saved in Mass Effect, bringing Tali along for the meeting and picking the “I don’t answer to you” line, will cause Tali to respond to the Council by saying, “We shouldn’t be fighting. If we’re going to stop the Reapers, we have to work together.”
  • Lia'Vael nar Ulnay is being accused of theft; Tali will have numerous statements defending the accused, particularly regarding the accusations of vagrancy. • If Shepard allows Niftu to join the fight after Niftu runs away Tali says, "We should have stopped him Shepard."
  • After listening to the VI's report on neural decay, Jacob supposes the neural decay must have affected his father. Tali agrees, saying it must have after so long.
  • On first arriving at the all-female camp, Tali observes, "These people seem calm, but they're part of the same group as the ones that attacked us." After Shepard theorizes that the neural decay affects genders differently, Tali admits it's a possibility but reminds Shepard that the woman on the beach told them the exiled ones returned as "hunters."
  • After the Reaper puts up its kinetic barrier, Tali states that despite her curiosity about Reapers, she would rather not get trapped inside one.

  • If Shepard orders the squad to step back, Tali responds indignantly: "I was just looking. I wasn't going to touch them."
  • When first encountering Legion , Tali will be shocked that the geth platform can communicate, saying that "it shouldn't be able to talk. A single geth has no more intelligence than a varren."

Tali mentions that although the heretics will no longer be a problem, reunification will make the geth stronger, and she expresses concern about future attacks.

  • Tali will argue against sparing the Collector Base, saying that they fought to stop it, and using it doesn't make it right.
  • If Tali was not romanced and Shepard destroys the Collector base, on the Normandy she expresses amazement at what they just pulled off, saying, "They said it couldn't be done. Then again, that's said about a lot of things you do." Talk to Squad Mate [ ]

  • Citadel : On the balcony of the Presidium Embassy, Tali will note that it is near where they first met, and how they have come a long way from dealing with Fist's thugs.
  • Derelict Reaper : After a then-unknown entity snipes a couple husks, Shepard can talk with Tali about the Dragon's Teeth and the temple-like structure.
  • Illium : Near the trade kiosk with the volus shorting prefabs, Tali will note that few quarians have seen Illium because the flotilla is barred from entering the system.
  • Omega : Tali will comment on the line outside of Afterlife . She'll say that parts of Omega reminds her of life on the Flotilla, cramped and crowded, but unlike the Flotilla there is no sense of family, just fear.
  • Urz : Upon initiating dialogue with the varren, after it has been wounded in a pit fight, Tali will assure Shepard that "he'll be alright."
  • Zakera Ward : Between level 27 and level 28, Tali will converse with Garrus , who asks if she misses the long elevator rides . The conversation, or teasing, continues until Tali reminds Garrus of her shotgun. This reminiscing occurs even if Garrus was never recruited to join Shepard's mission prior to finding him on Omega.
  • During Jacob 's loyalty mission: After defeating the "hunter" ambush Tali says, "These people didn't have neural decay, they're crazy."
  • N7: Blood Pack Base : When you approach the 2 large fuel tanks at the end of the assignment, Tali will say "Interesting. Let's take a closer look." After you destroy the 4 containment cells, she will yell "We have to get out of here!"

  • When using her Energy Drain ability, she will sometimes exclaim "Their shields are mine!" or "I will hack their shields!".
  • When using AI Hacking on the geth specifically, Tali will sometimes shout "We made you, we can break you!"

Secret Dialogue [ ]

Secret dialogue cannot normally be triggered due to the game's plot advancement requirements, and is only accessible by using the Coalesced Editor to add Tali to the player's party.

  • Upon finding the burning bodies, Tali will engage her suit's olfactory filters and anti-nausea medication.
  • During Archangel 's recruitment mission , if you choose to leave her to defend him, they will comment on it being "just like old times".
  • When entering the Quarantine zone before doing Mordin 's recruitment mission , Tali will note that her suit filters will take care of any potential issues unless it is breached, noting that in that case she'd probably be dead anyway.
  • When first meeting Mordin , he will be surprised that a quarian is working with Cerberus and wonders if "the geth are involved." Tali will reply that their mission "is bigger than just humanity" and calls for setting "old grudges aside."
  • On Korlus, when first hearing Jedore over the PA system, Tali will remark that giving "canned orders" over a loudspeaker is "unprofessional".
  • On Horizon, Kaidan/Ashley, depending on who was saved on Virmire, will be surprised that Tali is now working with Cerberus. With the appropriate dialogue option, they will say "You're with Cerberus now? Tali, too?" If Garrus is also present, Kaidan/Ashley will instead say "You're with Cerberus now? Garrus and Tali, too?"
  • On Jack's recruitment mission, upon coming across the prisoner being tortured, Tali will disapprove of it by saying that "No matter what they did, they don't deserve that."

Mass Effect 3 [ ]

  • If Shepard comments on how fortuitous Tali's curiosity about the geth turned out to be, she replies, "Happy to help."
  • If Shepard says Tali's evidence put Saren on the run, Tali replies, "This time, it feels like we're the ones on the run."
  • If Liara expounds on the Prothean people and their role in the galactic community, Tali asks if the Protheans were like the Citadel Council.
  • If Garrus is taken along he will mention receiving some dextro-amino chocolate from Dr. Chloe Michel . When asked why Tali was interested in Garrus receiving chocolate from the doctor, she will playfully respond, "Oh, nothing." If Garrus is Shepard's love interest, Tali will remark, "Watch yourself, Shepard".
  • If Liara is in the party and Shepard romanced her in the first game, then Tali in the second, and chose Tali as a love interest when Liara inquires, Liara and Tali will have a somewhat hostile exchange about Liara using her Shadow Broker resources to spy on them. Liara will even comment on Tali's suit applications, resulting in Tali sidestepping the implications and urging the gang to hit the dreadnought.
  • If Ashley is taken along, and Shepard romanced Ashley in the first game and then romanced Tali in the second game, Tali will try to be friendly to Ashley, saying how it's good to see her again, which Ashley coldly asks if she's sure about that, then Tali will reply, "Definitely, we're all adults here." Ashley will accept this, and then congratulate Tali on getting her "big-girl name", which Tali responds, "Thanks. I'm so glad you decided to help Shepard this time," referring to when Ashley left Shepard on Horizon in the second game.
  • If Tali was chosen to enter the vent at the Collector Base, she will complain about it always being the vents when telling Shepard how they get to the Reaper signal. Shepard will then remark that she did fine in the Collector Base, to which Tali will retort that she was set on fire.
  • If Tali was romanced in Mass Effect 2 and Garrus is with you on this mission, around the point where the Geth take out the elevation platform, there will be a back-and-forth where Shepard indicates how he is glad Tali is back and Tali sheepishly avoids answering directly with subtle romantic playful dialogue as she does throughout the mission. Shepard will then indicate that if she feels that it's too quiet, he can make sure that she's put some place 'a little louder.' At this point Garrus states in a bored voice how he was there when the romance happened between the two of them and they should 'find a room and get it over with.'
  • On the shuttle ride in, Tali may note that it's been quite some time since Admiral Koris left a starship.
  • After encountering the first quarian body, Tali will walk over to it and activate her omni-tool. When the body is interacted with she will whisper, "They came so far."

  • When interacting with the damaged door, Tali will say, "Despite the damage, you can tell this place used to be beautiful... for a prison." Shepard will inquire as to Tali's disapproval, after which the quarian will clarify, "Actually, I think the asari were being kind. Most races would have killed something like an Ardat-Yakshi."
  • If Tali and EDI or Liara are present, Tali will speak first, wondering why did the commandos go so far in the monastery. EDI will remark on ideal bomb placement position, to which Tali says they better find the exit before setting off the explosives. If Liara is the other squadmate, Liara suggests perhaps the commandos were looking for survivors, to which Tali notes that the commandos' luck was no better than theirs.
  • With Garrus wondering if the commando was holding off Reapers or was left behind, Tali will state, "That's a gruesome thought." Garrus will follow up with, "You were wondering, too, weren't you?" Then Tali replies, "Yeah."
  • Tali wonders if the Ardat-Yakshi were waiting for the commandos to save them if Kaidan is in the squad.
  • Tali speculates the commando got trapped and there was nowhere to run if Ashley is in the squad.
  • Tali says she might be able to jury-rig something when James wonders if the commandos planted the explosives or messed up and died. James inquires as to Tali's proficiency at demolition, to which Tali says she is - but they're usually accidental.
  • Tali asks Javik why he's not satisfied with the commandos blowing up the monastery.
  • In the shuttle approach, if Liara is asked about her mother, Tali remarks that she remembers Benezia fought so hard against her indoctrination .
  • Inside the temple of Athame, while investigating the artifacts, Tali is quick to notice that some of the artifacts (particularly the busts of Janiri and Lucen and the renditions of Athame) look Prothean; she is first to note that Athame was no goddess, but a Prothean. Liara initially denies it, but begins to see the resemblance, though she is unnerved about how it puts hundreds of years of asari history in doubt, even going so far as to remark that without the Reaper invasion, the discovery of Prothean intervention in asari history would be their civilization's greatest discovery.
  • When the Prothean Beacon hidden inside the temple is revealed by Shepard and Liara questions why it was hidden, Tali remarks that given the information obtained from the Mars Beacon (e.g., the Crucible ), it makes sense the asari would keep quiet. She also adds that given the temple's age and the amount of time the asari have had to study it, it would only take a few scientific advances to give the asari an edge over the other races. "Which, I'd like to add, you now have." Tali quips as a finish.
  • When fighting Kai Leng after Leng brags about killing Thane / Kirrahe on the Citadel if he killed one of them, Tali yells "Bosh'tet!" at him.
  • During Priority: Horizon , on inspecting a view of Sanctuary to the left of the initial doorway a squad member will comment on the facility's previous state of affairs but Tali chimes in that something terribly wrong changed it. Otherwise, if paired with EDI, Tali muses she could see why the refugees would be attracted to the place.
  • In Mahavid: Leviathan , when Shepard first enters the mining facility and sees that the inhabitants are not reacting to the Reaper presence outside, if Garrus or EDI is in the squad, Tali remarks that they seem awfully calm.
  • In Despoina: Leviathan , if Shepard is male and romanced Tali, when Shepard enters the Triton ADS and decides to enter the water to look for the Leviathan, Tali will say his name, worriedly, with the Commander reassuring that he will be fine. After Shepard wakes up on the shuttle, she will say, "Keelah, don't do that to me." Finally, Tali tells the Commander not to do something as risky as forging an alliance with the Leviathans since she almost lost him and that he is worth more to her than anything.
  • If Tali is the second squadmate to contact Shepard and Shepard tells her the situation is "dicey," Tali snarks, "You don't say."
  • When Shepard says they wanted to make things "more interesting," Tali responds, "Well, that's certainly one way to do it."
  • If Shepard is female, she will comment on Tali's enviro-suit. Tali replies: "At least you can dress up. What can I do? I'm already wearing my two sexiest belts!"
  • If Shepard is male, and just friends with Tali, he will claim that he hasn't worn formal attire in a while. Tali replies that his suit "needs a little something." After linking arms with him, she says: "Now it's perfect."
  • If Shepard is male, and in a relationship with Tali, he will claim that his clothes are "soft to touch." Tali flirtatiously replies: "Good to know."
  • Tali: "I think my suit's software is setting off alarms at the tables."
  • Guard: "That sometimes happens with our volus and quarian guests. Let me see what I can do."
  • Tali: "I was told there was varren racing here, but I'm having trouble finding it."
  • Guard: "It's easy to get turned around. Let me help."
  • Tali: "Hi, I was just by the quasar machines and I thought I saw someone using an omni-tool to rig the game."
  • Guard: "Thanks for letting us know. Could you point out where?"
  • Tali: "I'm sorry, I have a minor suit malfunction. Do you have a clean room available?"
  • Guard: "Just a moment. I'm sure we can find you something."
  • Tali: "Excuse me, can you show me which food is safe for me to eat?"
  • Guard: "Of course. Let me call up a list."
  • Tali: "I'm sorry. Can you help me for just a moment?"
  • Guard: "What do you need?"
  • If Tali is in the squad when Shepard's crew encounters a clone of Shepard , who's behind the attack, the clone can taunt Tali, saying "I don't know whether I should kill you with a bullet or just open your helmet and cough." Tali replies that the clone is "just a cheap imitation of the real thing."
  • When climbing up a ladder with Shepard's squad, and enemies firing on them, when a bullet strikes near her, Tali calls out, "Hey, that's cheating! We're on a ladder!"
  • When Brooks reveals she was the one who compiled the dossiers for the suicide mission , she'll tell Tali that it's nice to finally meet her, to which Tali coldly replies, "Charmed."
  • If Shepard allows Brooks to live and she's taken away, Tali will mutter under her breath, "Bosh'tet."
  • If Tali shoots Brooks as Brooks attempts to escape, she also responds to Brooks' last comment: "Well I won't miss you, you crazy bosh'tet."
  • As Shepard's squad disembarks the Normandy after it returns to its dock, Tali will flatly comment, "Worst shore leave ever."
  • If Tali is in the party and Shepard romanced her, she will comfort the Commander after viewing the first video log of the Lazarus Project. When he wonders if he might actually be a highly advanced VI that thinks it is Commander Shepard, she will reassure him that "You are real... Real... and mine." Alternatively, if Shepard is confident in who he is, Tali will say, "And damn anyone who thinks otherwise."
  • During the same mission, Shepard can view a video log in which the Illusive Man brags that the only reason he recruited Joker, Dr. Chakwas , Kelly Chambers , Kenneth Donnelly , Gabriella Daniels , and every other sympathetic crew member was to manipulate Shepard into viewing Cerberus in a more positive light. Tali will simply say "He needs to die."
  • When Tali sees the remains of the Human-Reaper, she expresses horror, saying, "All those civilians, families... turned into that. And Cerberus has it on display?" When Shepard expresses regret for trusting the Illusive Man, Tali says she doesn't regret standing by Shepard when they were with Cerberus but she's glad they're shutting it down now.
  • While at the missile battery, when Anderson warns the squad that more Reaper troops are heading their way, Tali exclaims, "Keelah. How can there be more of them?"
  • In the Extended Cut / Legendary Edition , if Tali is in Shepard's squad during the final push to the Conduit in Priority: Earth and Shepard romanced her, Tali will be gravely injured by Harbinger , prompting Shepard to call in Normandy for an emergency evac. Tali insists on staying with Shepard. Shepard tells her to go back to Rannoch to build herself a home. Tali tearfully replies that she has a home, and pleads for Shepard to come back to her.
  • If Tali is in the Normandy's cockpit when the Crucible is activated, she tells a reluctant Joker that they have to go.
  • Near the beginning of the mission, Tali jokingly asks Liara if she ever found a dinosaur. When Liara realizes that Tali was joking, she remarks "Maybe a little."

  • If Garrus is not the other squad member Tali will remark that planting a bomb on the krogan homeworld is unforgivable since the turians have already won.
  • If Garrus is the other squad member Tali will respond to one of Garrus's comments about the bomb by saying it was "monstrous."
  • When Tali presents Shepard with the Arc Pistol and Garrus is the other squadmate and asks why he doesn't get a new gun, Tali will tell Garrus that she couldn't find one for his size.
  • Upon entering the geth defense network, if Tali was chosen as the Specialist Technician on the suicide mission in Mass Effect 2, she and Shepard will comment about the experience and how she "got set on fire."
  • Just after debarking the shuttle at the start of the mission, Tali will express her amazement at standing in the land of her ancestors centuries after her people's exile.
  • Early on, if Liara is the other squadmate, she notes the large numbers of geth present. Tali responds that they are "cleanup crews" as the geth never learned to capture their enemies alive.
  • Early on, if Garrus is the other squadmate, he muses that asteroids could be towed in to win the war against the geth. Tali is aghast, as such a tactic would render Rannoch uninhabitable. Garrus argues lamely that the dust clouds would settle after a few centuries.
  • When wandering in the dark at the beginning of the mission Tali will claim that she tripped only if the other squadmate is either James, Javik or EDI.
  • After the battle with the first Banshee, Tali will remark, "That used to be an asari?" If Liara is not present, Tali will add, "Poor Liara, I'm glad she's back on the Normandy."
  • At the start of the mission, if EDI or Javik is the other squadmate, Tali will remark, "Damn, it's freezing. Who would live in such a place?"

  • On draining the pool she will be the first one to figure out that Cerberus has begun using Reaper tech.

  • During the opening moments as CAT6 forces close in on the squad, Tali may shout that nobody messes with her ship.
  • If James complains about the hijackers in his shuttle bay, Tali empathizes with him. When James broaches the subject of his weights being tampered, however, Tali changes her mind.
  • If Shepard recruited Garrus in Mass Effect and Tali was on the Normandy during the events of the time, Garrus asks if she missed the chats in the Citadel elevators. She doesn't: Tali accuses Garrus of being terrible.
  • If Kaidan or Ashley is present, Tali complains about how she has to "realign the the drive core synchronizers, run a full security diagnositic," then mentions having to clean up the CIC of the broken screens and spent thermal clips. She then sighs, saying that "an engineer's work is never done," before finally saying in an accepting tone: "come on, let's go kill this bosh'tet."
  • If Javik is present, he quotes an ancient proverb of the Prothean Empire, to which Tali responds: "Keelah se'lai, Javik."
  • If Liara asks Tali if she's "ready," Tali replies that she has to "go to the bathroom." After a brief moment of silence, Tali declares that now she is ready, implying that she has just finished relieving herself. To this, Liara merely remarks that Tali ought to at least wash her hands.
  • When EDI expresses outrage at outsiders disrespecting her "home" and her "body", Tali responds that she understands the feeling. Mass Effect 4 Bringing Back The Geth Would Make a Huge Splash on the Galaxy

  • Geth are crucial to the narrative of Mass Effect, challenging players to accept life in all forms.
  • Destruction of the Geth was a mistake in the series, hindering potential for narrative and character development.
  • Bringing back the Geth in Mass Effect 4 could provide innovative ways to rebuild the galaxy and explore their full potential.

The Mass Effect world is filled with fascinating aliens that stretch the bounds of imagination. One of the most interesting of these groups are the geth, an AI race created by an organic species, the quarians, who rebelled against their creators. The geth are introduced as an antagonistic group in Mass Effect , then make a surprising face-turn in Mass Effect 2 with Legion, who joins Shepard's team. By Mass Effect 3 , they're understood as their own independent, intelligent form of life.

Mass Effect 4 Seems to Jump Its Sci-Fi Vibes a Light-year Ahead

The geth are arguably the best species in mass effect, the destruction of the geth was a mistake.

Unfortunately, the only ending in which Shepard survives, the Destruction ending, means that all synthetics are destroyed. This includes the geth, no matter if Shepard did everything possible to save them. This was an unpopular part of the ending, especially considering that the reasoning behind this given by the Star Child was that organics and synthetics could never co-exist. Meanwhile, a major theme of Mass Effect 3 is proving that the two groups can co-operate. Creating peace between the quarians and the geth is one of the main story points in Mass Effect 3 , and of Tali and Legion's story throughout the trilogy.

The Geth are Narratively Essential to Mass Effect

The geth are one of the strongest narrative points of the Mass Effect Trilogy . Although the other aliens in Mass Effect are inhuman and with different cultures, it is the geth who truly push the boundaries of accepting life in all its forms. The geth force Shepard and the player to consider if life could be a machine and, even if that life thinks in a way that humans will never understand, because it is alive, it deserves to live.

Bringing Back the Geth Would Be a Win for Mass Effect

The geth help the galaxy.

Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 in particular push this theme through Legion and a variety of quests, including Legion's Loyalty Mission in Mass Effect 2 , and the Geth-Quarian War in Mass Effect 3 . The resolution of the Geth-Quarian War and its aftermath, where the geth assist the quarians in relocating Rannoch, is particularly revealing regarding the future of the geth. The geth's assistance means that the quarians' resettlement of Rannoch is sped up by entire generations, and so that the current generation of quarians could live on their homeworld without their suits.

Bring the Geth Back

Losing the geth in Mass Effect 3 's Destroy ending meant losing all the narrative themes, potential geth characters, unique culture, and help they could provide in rebuilding the galaxy in Mass Effect 4 . While the Destruction ending appears to be the canon version of the ending for the Mass Effect Trilogy , bringing the geth back would be a massive boon for Mass Effect 4 as the geth could help rebuild the galaxy in unpredictable and innovative ways, but also because the Mass Effect Trilogy didn't have a chance to explore their full potential.

The Logistics of Bringing the Geth Back

Bringing the geth back for Mass Effect 4 could work for all game states, even those where the geth became hostile or were destroyed. As the Reaper threat is no longer a problem, the geth would have no reason to fight organics unless it was for survival, and organics are unlikely to be in a state to launch a war against them. The geth could be rebuilt , and it's far more likely they will be remade based on existing technology rather than BioWare creating an entirely new AI species.
