Despite not being as open as its predecessor, Mass Effect 3 gives you plenty of freedom regarding mission order. You need to do nearly all of the Priority quests in a set sequence, but you have more control over when you play each secondary operation.

Yes, the mission order does matter. However, most of the missions where the order does matter can be ignored if you're willing to skip portions of the content available in the game. In this instance, you can just play the main story line missions, which pretty much present themselves to you in the order that they can be played in.
