He _____ his homework yet

In colloquial English, I don't think #2 is wrong. Suppose one asked the question: "Did John finish his homework yet?" An appropriate answer might be, "No, he didn't finish his homework yet." Perhaps a purist might say that the word "yet" precludes option 2, but I think this is a little too "pure" for most native speakers.

Number 2 sounds bad to me, for the reasons Trisia stated. Perhaps I'm in the minority of AE speakers, but I never say "did . . . yet?" or "didn't . . . yet."

anothersmith and Dimcl, So, you've never said to anyone, "Didn't you eat yet?"* I'm surprised. In my neck of the woods, it would sound pompous to say, "Haven't you eaten yet?" to family members, for example. *And "Did you eat yet?" (which sounds like "Jeet yet?") is the pure Pittsburghese that I learned in the cradle!

Dimcl said: No, absolutely not, Joelline. In fact, I've heard it when in the U.S. and cringe every time (Waitress: "Did you know what you want to eat?" ). Nothing personal, but.... arrgghh! Click to expand...

Thank you all So... if I want to use "yet" in my sentence, then I have to use past perfect. I have only one problem (which is only mine). I thought that present perfect is for something that happened in the past and I don't care when exactly it happened (for example, I've eaten in this restaurant before). But I guess I'm wrong (according to Trisia's explanation) and I will read about it later. Thank you.

  • Something that hasn't happened yet = the kids finished eating
  • something that still goes on = they're still not finished with their meal.

Perhaps the source that says option no. 2 is wrong is British. "He didn't finish his homework yet" is not BE, though it may become standard before long through the copying of US practice.

Her Husband’s Therapist Assigned Her Homework, But She Pushed Back Because This Was His Therapy, Not Hers

by Matthew Gilligan

Source: Reddit/AITA/@secretsecretwhisper

Who wants to do homework as an adult?

And I bet you’re not on board with that idea either, are you ?

So was this woman out of line for what she did?

Check out her story and see what you think…

AITA for not doing the homework my husband’s therapist assigned to me? “My husband and I have been together for over a decade. During this time he’s been in therapy on and off. He had a hard time finding a therapist that was right for him. A few of his therapists early on encouraged him to just medicate (with no regular sessions) and one pushed religion on him. Neither of these worked.
What he needed was someone to meet with him semi regularly, not push their religious beliefs on him, and instead work with him to develop appropriate strategies/talk through issues.

She told him how she feels.

Whenever he told me about one of these more questionable strategies (i.e. pushing ‘just love Jesus’) I said I thought that was inappropriate and he should find a better therapist and go without until then. There have been long stretches where he has gone without therapy because my husband isn’t generally good at taking care of himself. That falls on me.

She has a lot of responsibility regarding him…

I have to remind him to do things to keep him healthy/taken care of. Drink water. Eat more than once a day. There are literally times I have had to tell him he needs to brush his teeth. He also gets anxious making any decisions on his own. I have to help him pick out new clothes, write emails to work colleagues or groups of friends. He can’t make plans for us- I have to make them all. Or, I should say, I have to help him make the plans so then he can say he made them.

She’s tired of this situation.

He’s a good person. He loves me so much. But he is so dependent on me. It is draining. I have to spend an hour at least once a week talking him through whatever crisis he’s having. Sometimes this crisis is over what new collectable to buy. A collectable for him. That I do not have any interest in. I finally demanded that he look into therapists again. I told him I can not be his therapist and he cannot depend on me this much. He needs to start taking care of himself and get a therapist that will work with him to develop these skills. And he did! Which is great.

Then she got a surprising request.

However a month into therapy he said his therapist had homework for me. I was supposed to write out a list of all his great qualities- at least a page or two. (Mind you, this is after YEARS of me carrying all his emotional baggage, essentially mothering him, giving him credit for things I did so he could feel better about himself, and one year, I did in fact write out 100 things that I thought were great about him for a gift.) I was so frustrated. I said no. I said therapy is his work, not mine, and I’ve spent too many years of our lives solving things for him. It wasn’t fair to ask me to sit down and do this homework when the point of his therapy was for him to build his own skills without depending on me all the time.

Things got even weirder…

He was upset but accepted it, and said he understood. Well, just the other day he told me that his therapist doesn’t like me. And thinks I should be thanking and showing him appreciation more. I told him I didn’t care what his therapist thought- they are his therapist. This does have me thinking though, AITA for not doing the homework his therapist assigned to me?”

Check out how folks reacted to this story on Reddit.

This person said she’s NTA…and they think she needs to go to therapy.

This reader thinks her husband might be way off the mark.

And one individual said this isn’t something she should have to do.

I mean… it wouldn’t hurt, right?

Seems like she might be a little out of line here…

Neil Patrick Harris Says He's Going to 'Ramp Up My Rizz' as His 2 Kids Join Him in First TikTok

The actor's 13-year-old twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott joined in for his debut

Neil Patrick Harris has joined TikTok — though it may not be the news his teens wanted to hear.

Ahead of the weekend, the How I Met Your Mother star, 50, recruited his 13-year-old twins, daughter Harper Grace and son Gideon Scott (whom he shares with his husband David Burtka ), for his debut on the social media platform.

“Ok, ok. Are you guys so excited?” Harris asked as he backed away from a camera, making sure he, Harper and Gideon were all in the frame.

Talking over one another, the kids both responded, letting their dad know they weren’t too sure about his next move.

“I’m joining the TikTac,” the actor then said enthusiastically.

“TikTok,” Gideon said, correcting his father while rubbing his head in apparent despair in the video announcement. Harper stood silent nearby, but her facial expressions revealed she seemed less than certain about her dad's new social media channel.

Harris continued, happily sharing that he would soon “have so many followers” before using a bit of Gen Z lingo - the viral term "rizz," which is short for charisma, and has been defined by dictionary publisher Oxford University Press as "“someone’s ability to attract another person through style, charm, or attractiveness.”

“I’m gonna ramp up my rizz ,” the Gone Girl actor said before he was cut off with a stern warning from Gideon to “never, ever say that again.”

After Harris said his new TikTok account would make him “a snack,” Harper let out a shriek, covered her face and left the frame of the video.

Gideon also followed suit once his dad began dancing. “It’s too cheesy,” Harper was heard saying off-camera.

Despite his kids' less-than-enthusiastic response, fans in his comment section were quick to show their support for the video.

“NPH is in his cringy dad era and I’m here for it 😂😂,” one person quipped. “My favorite is when celebrities, no matter how legendary, are still just dad to their kids,” another added.

Even though they may not have loved his TikTok video, Gideon and Harper have previously told their parents that they're considered cool.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE this week, Harris and his celebrity chef husband, 48, discussed how they rank out of the other parents in their children’s friend group.

"We're definitely told we're the coolest parents out of all the friend groups," Burtka proudly shared. "I didn't realize it was a competition!" Harris said with a laugh.

"You hope as kids get older that they want to share more with you, and are willing to tell you when things are happening as opposed to just keeping you out of the loop. So that's nice to hear,” Harris said.

The couple also admitted that Harper and Gideon have a pretty “rigorous” school life, so their family home has not become “a hangout house yet.”

In fact, the kids typically “come home and do homework.”

Before Harris announced he was joining TikTok, the Uncoupled actor recently had a bit of family fun on Instagram for the holidays .

"Did I push it? I push the red one? Okay. To everyone on the gram of Insta, we just wanted to say happy Christmas eve. From the Burtka-Harris household," Harris said in a December Instagram video before they opened Christmas gifts.
