Rising Stars Homework Club

The Rising Stars Homework Club is available to students of Shady Grove and Lower Gwynedd Elementary Schools. It was a pilot program last year based on the former WAC Cares Program through Wissahickon School District.

Children are invited to participate by their teachers. Adults with current clearances assist students with homework, studying, reading fluency, mathematics, and social skills. Students have access to educational and brain teaser games along with team building activities. A healthy snack, creative activity, and play time are incorporated into each session.

In April 2022, we were recognized with a Friend of Education Award from the Pennsylvania State Education Association, Mideastern Region.

The Rising Stars Homework Club is helping kids in Wissahickon School District succeed!

AMBLER, Pa. -- A group of experienced educators in Pennsylvania are helping neighborhood kids exceed in the classroom by giving them extra attention after school.

Patti Fabiani, who has 26 years of experience in the Wissahickon School District in Ambler, originally started the "Rising Stars Homework Club" in 2015.

She did so to help kids who were struggling in school catch up.

With the help of Heather Maltin, a former high school teacher, Patti revived the club during the pandemic, seeing the need for kids to get one-on-one attention was greater than ever.

That need led them to seek out volunteers.

During the 2021-22 school year, the club helped 45 kids excel in their school work.

Everyday, the kids would be bused after school to the Ambler Borough building, where they would work with the educators. And the results were outstanding!

During the pandemic, the need for kids to get one-on-one attention was greater than ever. So the team added members and helped more than 45 kids excel in their school work.

Ambler Community Ambulance

Paramedics visited, let the students walk through the vehicle and taught a lesson on safety, even brought them hats and stickers. Now we have some students who want to be paramedics!

Everyday, the kids would be bused after school to the Ambler Borough building, where they would work with the educators. And the results were outstanding!

During the pandemic, the need for kids to get one-on-one attention was greater than ever. So the team added members and helped more than 45 kids excel in their school work.
