Mass effect: how to find dr. saleon (garrus personal assignment).

In Mass Effect, Shepard can help Garrus track down an unethical doctor who got away. How Shepard responds shapes Garrus' morality through the series.

Most of the non-human companions in Mass Effect each have a personal assignment that serves as a loyalty mission, usually unlocked after Shepard has taken the time to exhaust all conversation options and get to know their squad. Like finding Wrex's family armor , these missions affect the squadmate in some way, with consequences that carry to later missions or even Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 . If Shepard takes the time to get to know Garrus, he will eventually share a case he worked while at C-Sec that deeply disturbed him. He tells the story of a salarian doctor, Dr. Saleon, who was discovered growing cloned organs inside live test subjects. He also shares they never caught the doctor but that he knows where he may be hiding.

If Shepard agrees to check out the coordinates, it results in a quick but impactful side mission. They will need to seek out and board Dr. Saleon's ship, now registered under his pseudonym Dr. Heart. There is only minimal fighting and decent loot for completing this mission. However, Shepard's final choice during this mission, more than any other factor, determines Garrus' personality and moral leanings for the duration of the series, as he tends to take his cues from Shepard's leadership. Here's how to find and deal with Dr. Saleon during Garrus' personal assignment in Mass Effect .

How to Find and Deal with Dr. Saleon in Mass Effect

mass effect legendary edition garrus

To find and deal with Dr. Saleon in Mass Effect , Shepard will need to trigger the assignment acquisition conversation with Garrus. The best way to do this is to talk with him often, usually any time Shepard returns to the Normandy. He can be found on the lowest deck of the Normandy, accessed via the elevator. Most of the conversations Shepard has with him to start are philosophical, dealing with issues of morality and whether the ends ever justify the means. Eventually, as they get to know each other, Shepard can ask about Garrus' history with C-Sec, and Garrus will open up to Shepard about his experience with Dr. Saleon.

Dr. Saleon's ship, the MSV Fedele, is found in the Kepler Verge in the Herschel star system. Shepard should bring Garrus along for the mission, though it is not technically required. Once Shepard's squad boards the ship, they will need to face a few Test Subjects. These husk-like creatures are largely the same as the Thorian Creepers from the mission on Feros. They will move close and vomit toxic liquid onto squadmates. Shepard and their squad will want to use weapons with knockback to face them and avoid getting overwhelmed.

mass effect legendary edition garrus me2

In the next room, Shepard and their squad will find Dr. Saleon, who will feign having been attacked by the Test Subjects. Shepard will face a decision: tell Garrus to back down so they can bring Dr. Saleon in for questioning alive, or choose to shoot or allow Garrus to shoot him. If Shepard chooses to take Dr. Saleon in alive, he will still become hostile, and a single shot from any squadmate will be enough to kill him; he dies regardless.

Choosing not to immediately kill Dr. Saleon results in Garrus becoming more Paragon and focused on saving the lives of innocents in Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 . Choosing the more violent option results in him leaning more Renegade. Either way, this colors his actions, both on Omega and on Palaven when advising Primarch Victus. While Shepard's other choices, like the philosophical discussions between the two in Mass Effect or deciding how to deal with Sidonis during Garrus' Loyalty mission in Mass Effect 2 , do have some impact on Garrus' outlook, this mission is the single most important factor to develop Garrus' morality based on Shepard's leadership.

Mass Effect 1: How to Start Garrus Find Dr. Saleon Mission

mass effect garrus assignment

While Mass Effect 1 doesn’t have loyalty missions in the same way that Mass Effect 2 does, it does have assignments that kind of resemble them. Garrus, like Tali and Wrex, has an assignment that Shepard can take on if they choose, however it’s completely optional and missable. Here’s what you need to know about how to start Garrus’s personal assignment mission, Garrus: Find Dr. Saleon .

How to Start Garrus: Find Dr. Saleon

At the end of each major mission in Mass Effect 1, you have the opportunity to talk to each of your squad members to learn more about their backstory and get to know them a little bit. You absolutely should always do this, and in this case, it’s actually required if you want to start the Find Dr. Saleon mission.

Garrus has a past with this doctor, and he will eventually forward you an assignment if you continue to talk to him about it after completing the main story missions . Once you have it as an assignment, you can head to its location and take it on. Unlike Tali and Wrex’s missions, it’s actually extremely short, but you do have a choice to make.

We’d highly recommend bringing Garrus to this assignment. If you’d like some details, keep reading, otherwise, you can leave now if you want to stay spoiler-free.

Spare or Kill Dr. Saleon

Ultimately, whether you choose to spare or kill Dr. Saleon (now known as Dr. Heart), the “good” doctor will pull a gun on you and try to kill you. However, how you encourage Garrus to behave will have him start to lean a bit more Paragon or Renegade in his subsequent dialog. You can pretty much go with whatever you prefer to see, or based on whether you want more Paragon or Renegade points. This choice won’t have any big long-term implications.

That’s all you need to know about how to start Garrus’ personal assignment mission, Find Dr. Saleon in Mass Effect 1 . For more tips, tricks and FAQs answered be sure to check out our  wiki guide  that is filled with helpful guides.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition: 15 Assignments In The First Game You Need To Play

As an RPG, Mass Effect contains plenty of side objectives for players. With the release of the Legendary Edition, which are most worth your time?

The first Mass Effect game revolves around Commander Shepard and their quest to hunt down Saren and Sovereign to save the galaxy from destruction. However, the protagonist doesn't spend all of their time on a single quest. Alongside the game's main missions is an abundance of assignments for players to complete, all of which are included in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition .

RELATED: Mass Effect: All Alien Squad Members In Thea Franchise, Ranked

The side quests focus on other happenings in the galaxy, which Shepard needs to sort out. They offer a nice reprieve from the main quest and add some life to the galaxy, making it feel lived in. Some assignments can be a little repetitive, but plenty of others are worth playing.

Updated on January 16th, 2022 by Talha Bin Rizwan: The first game from the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition trilogy has players take control of Commander Shepard to save the galaxy from the Saren, Sovereign, and the Geth. In addition to the main quest, players can undertake many side quests that are found all over the galaxy. These side missions, or assignments, as the game calls them, add some variety to the gameplay allowing Shepard to help people in a more one-on-one way. While some side-quests can be tedious for players, other side missions can be just as engaging as the main quest, if not more.

15 Garrus: Find Dr. Saleon

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Of Dr. Saleon

Loyalty missions don't exist in the original game, but some assignments relate to specific companions. For instance, the search for Dr. Saleon concerns perhaps the best squadmate , Garrus. Dr. Saleon, aka Dr. Heart, is a cruel Salarian who used to clone organs inside his patients' bodies to sell, often causing complications for the victims. When he was a part of C-Sec, Garrus tried to stop the evil physician, but Saleon slipped away.

If Shepard talks to the Turian enough throughout the game, he'll tell the tale of Dr. Saleon and give the Commander coordinates to find the villain. The action in the assignment is limited, yet the compelling backstory makes up for it. Plus, it's always nice to see great characters like Garrus get some spotlight.

14 Asari Consort

Shepard triggers sha'ira romance scene

Shepard can find the consort’s chambers in the southeastern part of the Citadel. Inside, they will meet Sha’ira the consort, who’ll task them with getting a Turian General to leave her alone. The general is spreading lies about Sha’ira and all Shepard will need to do is talk to him.

Once done, they can return to Sha’ira where they can get one of two rewards, either a romance scene or a Prothean trinket that leads to an easter egg on the planet Eletania.

13 UNC: Missing Marines

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Of Mako Fighting A Thresher Maw

Relatively early in the game, Shepard can speak with Admiral Kahoku, who sends him on an assignment to find his missing marines. At the last known coordinates of Kahoku's team, the player finds only dead bodies and a huge Thresher Maw.

In the original game, fighting the giant monster wasn't too interesting. Yet, the Legendary Edition has made several exciting alterations to Thresher Maw battles. Maws now have sensory tentacles that players must shoot to get it out of hiding, which adds more variety to fights. Furthermore, their aim is incredible as they predict the Mako's movements, making their acid spit much harder to dodge.

12 Noveria: Espionage

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Rafael Vargas

Not every assignment in Mass Effect is about violence. In 'Noveria: Espionage,' Shepard has to keep Rafael Vargas talking while a device hacks into his personal network.

RELATED: Every Mass Effect Race & Their Population Size

To please the Asari who gave Shepard the job, the player has to convince Vargas that they're genuinely interested in buying something from Binary Helix. Since this is Mass Effect , there are multiple ways for the quest to play out, partially based on whether Shepard is Paragon or Renegade. It all makes for a unique and compelling assignment that players can find near the Hotel bar on Noveria.

11 Homecoming

Samesh calls out to Shepard for help in retreiving his wife's body

The quest is a short one but may have an emotional impact on players. The quest can be acquired after Tali joins Shepard’s party. They will find an NPC in front of the embassy front desk at the Presidium who is trying to get the Alliance to recover his wife’s body from Eden Prime.

Shepard can intervene on his behalf and talk to the clerk responsible who will release the body. It’s a small quest that takes only a few minutes to complete, but it is one of the few which can touch the players emotionally.

10 Citadel: The Fan

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Of Conrad Verner

Despite featuring sparingly in the trilogy, Conrad Verner is a memorable character. He's a fanatic of Shepard's, desperate to follow in his hero's footsteps. At different points during the first game, he'll be waiting down in the Citadel markets.

As part of 'Citadel: The Fan,' the Commander has several conversations with Verner. During each talk, Verner's enthusiasm and delusion is funny to watch. Shepard's reaction to their number one fan is always entertaining, regardless of the protagonist's moral alignment.

9 UNC: Geth Incursions (aka Geth Activities)

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Of Mako Fighting Geth Ship During Geth Incursion Assignment

The Geth are among the most powerful races in the Mass Effect universe , so Admiral Hackett is understandably concerned that they have multiple outposts in the Armstrong Nebula. As usual, it's up to Shepard to put an end to the Synthetics' activities. The Commander must go around to each outpost and destroy the Geth forces waiting there.

The enjoyment of this assignment depends on players' feelings about the new Mako, as it features heavily in the mission. However, the main reason to do this quest is the important terminal at the final base. Shepard can give the data retrieved from this terminal to Tali, which will strengthen their relationship.

8 Rita's Sister

Rita from ME1 asks Shepard to help her sister out

This side mission can be acquired at Flux where players will overhear a waitress, Rita, talking to her Volus manager about her sister. Upon exploring, Shepard learns that Rita’s sister is working on a dangerous assignment for C-Sec, and she is worried about her sister’s safety.

Shepard is then contacted by a C-Sec officer and can assist him in dealing with the matter themselves. In doing so, Shepard will complete the assignment he gave to Jenna, Rita’s sister, after which she will be free to go.

7 UNC: Rogue VI

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Of Mako On The Moon

'UNC: Rogue VI' is an assignment given to the player by Hackett. The Alliance Admiral asks Shepard to go to Earth's moon and destroy the out-of-control VI that's taken over Luna Base. During the mission, the Commander and their team shoot through an abundance of flying drones.

As players spend most of the story facing Geth or Krogan, the drones are a nice change of pace. The real reason to complete this quest, though, is because it rewards the player with a Class Specialization. If players choose the right Specialization, it can make them significantly stronger.

6 Hostile Takeover:

Helena Blake asks Shepard to let her go

The mission is available after Shepard completes the main missions on the planets Therum, Noveria, and Feros. They’ll need to hack one of the terminals at the C-Sec Academy to pick this side mission up. C-Sec will be investigating a suspected criminal named Helena Blake who can be found in the Financial District.

She’ll ask Shepard to take out two of her business partners. The quest is short but fun and depending on how players complete the quest, Helena Blake will appear in the second game of the trilogy.

5 UNC: Cerberus

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Of Mako Outside a Cerberus Facility

Players might not remember that Cerberus is barely involved in the first game's adventures. However, in the rest of the Legendary Edition , the morally questionable organization plays a significant part in the story. In fact, Mass Effect 2 feels a little weird without knowing why people hate the Illusive Man's crew.

RELATED: Mass Effect: Miranda Lawson's Best Quotes, Ranked

Admiral Kahoku gives players the chance to learn about the group, tasking them with investigating a few of their research facilities as part of the 'UNC: Cerberus' assignment. During the lengthy mission, Shepard finds out some horrifying information, helping flesh out the story.

4 Wrex: Family Armor

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Of Wrex After Picking Up Family Armor

If players want to hear Wrex deliver great lines throughout the entire trilogy , they should do his family armor quest. Completing this assignment isn't the only way to keep this Krogan alive, but it is the easiest.

To acquire the mission, Shepard has to regularly talk with Wrex on the Normandy until he reveals that his family armor is in the hands of a Turian pirate. During the assignment, players will storm the base of the trophy hunter and attempt to kill plenty of his people in an entertaining battle.

3 Shepard’s Backstory Missions

Spacer bakground Shepard meets Zabaleta during the Side Quest

During character creation, players select a background for Shepard out of three choices; Earthborn, Colonist, and Spacer. These allow players to determine Shepard’s origins and how they started their journey to become a galactic legend. During the game, Shepard will be prompted to pursue certain missions based on the background selection.

With Earthborn, Shepard helps a former friend help his companion escape. With Colonist, a person from Shepard’s colony needs their help in stopping a suicide. And with Spacer, Shepard will help a man who claims to be their mother’s friend. These missions are small but allow players to flesh out their Shepard as a character.

2 Virmire: Assisting Kirrahe's Team

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Of Captain Kirrahe

Shortly after arriving on Virmire, Shepard will meet a Salarian captain named Kirrahe. It doesn't take the leader long to become popular with players, as he's a very likable character.

During the assault on Saren's base, the Commander can help the charismatic Captain stay alive. To do so, players have to complete 'Virmire: Assisting Kirrahe's Team'. The objective to destroy the Geth flyers is the one that really matters, but it's worth completing the entire assignment, as it's enjoyable to help out allies.

1 X57: Bring Down the Sky

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Screenshot Of Bring Down The Sky

Originally, Bring Down the Sky was an expansion for the first game, but now it's included as part of the Legendary Edition . The main quest is a lot longer than a typical assignment, and it sees Shepard attempt to stop a group of Batarians from destroying a colony named Terra Nova.

New enemies, fun action, and a solid story make the Bring Down The Sky assignment one of the best. In fact, if it had more connection to Saren or Sovereign, it would feel more like a main mission as opposed to side content.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Garrus Vakarian - Complete Build guide - Mass Effect 1 (ME1) | LE

Garrus is a C-Sec Turian who joins Shepard on the journey to catch Saren. In this post, I will share my tips on how to best build Garrus in Mass Effect 1 Legendary Edition.

Talents and skills

Garrus is Turian Agent. This means that he concentrates on using Sniper and Assault rifles in Combat. Moreover, he specializes in Tech allowing them to easily deal with enemy shields and crippling their weapons.

Garrus build mass effect 1 stats

Here are the talent point allocations that you should have close to the end game:

  • Assault Rifles: 6 (12 – if you decide to go for Assault rifles)
  • Sniper Rifles: 12 (Skip it if you choose to concentrate on Assault rifles)
  • Tactical Armor: 12
  • Assault Training: 12
  • Decryption: 9
  • First Aid: 7
  • Electronics: 9
  • Turian Agent: 6

If you have Garrus as the only Tech-type character in your group, your priority is Decryption 9, First Aid 7, and Electronics 9. This way you can unlock all the chests, safes, and other containers as early as possible in Mass Effect However, if not follow the steps below:

I suggest going for Assault Rifles 6 and then Sniper Rifles 12. Sniper has the ability to knockdown. This is specifically useful for Insanity difficulty where enemies can be hard to deal with.

My next suggestion is Decryption. Get it to 9, this way you can disable enemy weapons making them stand around taking damage. This works well for enemies like Krogans or Geth Destroyers which take a while to kill.

Next, get First Aid 7 and Electronics to 9. You will now be able to easily take out enemy shields and deal additional health damage. This works well against most of the enemies, especially Geth.

Now, you have all the core skills needed and can put the rest of the points to Tactical Armor , Assault Training , and Turian Agent

Recommended Gear for Garrus

Garrus represents Infiltartor Class. So similar equipment is needed.

As you can guess the best weapons are the ones for Spectres: HMWA – assault rifle and HMWSR Sniper Rifle. Try to get the highest tier available to you, either 7 or 10.

mass effect garrus assignment

Now for upgrades, you have these options:

  • Frictionless Materials – boosts damage without increasing heat generation
  • Scram Rail – provides large damage boost and increases heat generation
  • Inferno Rounds – good rounds that affect all the enemies in the game: does damage per second and reduces their accuracy
  • High Explosive Rounds – these rounds will enable you to knock down most enemies in the game. I think this is mandatory on Insanity difficulty

Garrus can wear Light Armor. However, with level 7 Tactical armor investment he will be able to equip Medium Armors. This will give the needed protection bonus from the enemies – a much-needed improvement to his survivability

There are two main options:

  • Colossus armor – has the highest physical protection, which I personally is better
  • Predator armor – has weaker damage protection, but provides larger bonuses to Shields and tech/biotic protection

colossus armor medium mass effect 1

I recommend getting these upgrades: Energized Plating, Medical Exoskeleton.

Best Omni-tool for Garrus

As with all Omni-tool users I recommend Savant. This is the best item available that will boost Garrus Tech cooldowns and shields:

Savant can be bought in Normandy or Emporium on rare occasions and on some quests

Logic Arrest is a weaker alternative if you are not able to obtain Savant.

Garrus Vakarian Tactics

I suggest having Garrus equipped Sniper Rifle. Regarding the skills, here is how I use them:

  • Adrenaline Burst (repeat from the first point)

It is fairly straightforward, with Sabotage and Damping you should be able to disable most of the enemies, making your encounters much easier.

I hope you have enjoyed this guide. It should help you to get an understanding of how Garrus should be built to maximize his utility in the party.

Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions in the comments

Mass Effect: 10 Best Garrus Quotes

Garrus Vakarian is one of the most memorable characters in the Mass Effect series, and here are some of his best lines throughout the games.

The Mass Effect series is full of memorable moments and characters that really help make the universe of the game feel alive. Bioware provided a variety of characters  that were at Commander Shepard's side through their adventures in the Milky Way Galaxy. But many would argue though that the best of the best might be the turian sharpshooter, Garrus Vakarian.

RELATED: Calibrations: 15 Crazy Things You Didn't Know About Garrus Vakarian

Garrus is one of two characters in the original trilogy to be a squad member throughout all three games (the other being Tali). He is also a romance option that just about everyone loves . With the announcement of the Legendary Edition coming in Spring 2021, now is a good time to look at the memorable quotes that Garrus has said that has helped make the character who he is.

10 "It's Gonna Be Bad All Over."

mass effect garrus assignment

Garrus will say this to sympathize with James during the Menae after the latter is disturbed about Earth being overwhelmed by husks.

While it is pretty simple, since it foreshadows just how bad the Reaper War will be. Seeing Earth get manhandled by the Reapers and seeing the same happen to the turians and Palaven is all just the beginning. As it turns out, things do in fact get worse before they get better. Especially when things stop making sense with the Reapers' motives.

9 "Some Women Find Facial Scars Attractive; Mind You Most Of Those Women Are Krogan."

mass effect garrus assignment

A witty remark that is said after Shepard comments on the scar Garrus acquired during his recruitment mission in Mass Effect 2, after getting shot up by a mercenary gunship. Despite nearly dying, he still finds time to make humor out of the predicament.

This shows a more witty side to Garrus that was kind of absent from him in the first game. Since there is a two-year gap between the first and second games, it shows just how much a familiar face has changed during that time.

8 "Just Like Old Times, Shepard."

Garrus when first encountering him in Mass Effect 2

Uttered during Garrus' recruitment mission that was mentioned earlier, as they and Shepard's squad are about to take on all three major mercenary factions in the game within and around a small apartment on Omega. Seeing that the mysterious Archangel was in fact your old pal Garrus was a pleasant surprise for players.

RELATED: 10 Games To Play If You Like Mass Effect

It shows a nostalgic side to Garrus as he goes up against near impossible odds at Shepard's side with only their wits and high-powered weapons on their side, much like during the first game.

7 "This Wasn't Covered In My Training Manuals."

The Thorian in its lari in Mass Effect 1

If the player decided to bring Garrus with them on the Feros mission in the first game, he will say this line in disbelief when he sees the Thorian for the first time. The Thorian is described as a plant but has a rather grotesque blob-like appearance about it and is responsible for most of the trouble going on at Feros.

Not only is the quote add some comic relief to the scene but it also provides a look into his training, specifically turian military training . Most had a similar reaction upon seeing the image above for the first time.

6 "Being Part Of The World Puts A New Perspective On Things, Doesn't It?"

Garrus as he appears in Mass Effect 3

A quote most players might have missed unless they brought both Garrus and EDI with them for the Sur'Kesh mission in the third game and they observed the rather gorgeous vista before heading into the facility below. Garrus will say this after EDI sees a planet firsthand for the first time.

RELATED: Mass Effect: Fan Art Worthy Of An Award

The quote also makes the player think about the world around them in a sense. Perhaps participating in a protest or voting in an election will provide a new perspective similar to the one EDI and maybe Garrus had too.

5 "We Can Disobey Suicidal Orders? Why Wasn't I Told?"

mass effect garrus assignment

While Shepard is attempting to recruit the asari justicar Samara in the second game, they will run into a local detective named Anaya who has orders to bring Samara in. Shepard can tell her she has the right to disobey a suicidal order and if Garrus is present, he will say this.

It adds a layer of humor to the game since all the squad members never actually say no to joining Shepard on a suicide mission, even if they are not loyal.

4 "You Know, I Meant For That To Be A Warning Shot. Ah Well."

Brooks running away in Mass Effect 3

After the climatic battle against the Shepard clone at the end of the Citadel DLC, players will have to deal with their partner in crime, Brooks.

RELATED: 10 Funniest Quotes From The Mass Effect Trilogy

After taunting the party, Brooks will try to flee when a renegade prompt will appear to shoot her. If the player chooses not to and Garrus is present he will shoot her instead and say this. Looks like everyone mistakes at some point.

3 "You Humans Have A Saying. An Eye For An Eye; A Life For A Life. Well He Owes Me Ten Lives And I Plan To Collect."

Garrus as he appears in Mass Effect 1

A classic saying that is used as a good tool for foreshadowing as it hints at the lengths Garrus is willing to go to in order to kill Sidonis during his loyalty mission in Mass Effect 2 . Sidonis was a member of Garrus' vigilante team on Omega who sold them out, resulting in the deaths of all but Garrus himself.

The hatred in his voice can really be heard and it is obvious that Garrus wants blood, so much so that he is willing to shoot Harkin, who helped Sidonis lie low on the Citadel, so he does not warn him. It is up to Shepard to decide if killing Sidonis is really the best choice.

2 "Can It Wait For A Bit? I'm In The Middle Of Some Calibrations."

Shepard trying to talk to Garrus in Mass Effect 2

The line that spawned one of the best running gags of the entire series. When Shepard tries to talk to Garrus once in a while, they will be unable to do so due since he is busy with some calibrations.

Though it is said in the second game, it is made fun quite a bit in the third game. Joker, for example, will say that Garrus is doing some calibrations after recruiting him in Mass Effect 3, the former will make a joke about it.

1 "It's So Much Easier To See The World In Black And White. Gray? I Don't Know What To Do With Gray..."

Garrus at the end of his loyalty mission in Mass Effect 2

A quote that does not just describe the world of Mass Effect but also the real world as well. Garrus will say this after confiding in Shepard during the closing moments of his loyalty mission after dealing with Sidonis.

While there are indeed things everywhere that are black and white, there are still plenty of gray shades out there to deal and people can easily feel overwhelmed by it. It relates to Garrus perfectly in this sense since he hopes that he did right by his men and whether or not Sidonis character is as bad as his actions.

  • Despite heavy presence of Geth, for most situations Tali won't be helpful for the majority of this Assignment. This is because outside of two indoor locations, you'll be fighting them at ranges far too great for her to use her powers.
  • Instead, bring Garrus and Ashley for the first three parts, as their Sniper Rifle ability makes them much more useful here.

Armstrong Nebula - Cluster View - Labels V2.png

UNC: Geth Incursions is, by far, one of the lengthiest Assignments in all of Mass Effect, and takes a bit of patience to complete. Why? It will take you to five different planets, and is full of fairly lethal fighting.

To unlock it, you simply need to travel to the Armstrong Nebula, just North-East of Attican Beta, the cluster where Feros is. When you do, you'll be contacted by Admiral Hackett, who'll let you know that there are four Geth Outposts he wants you to investigate.

Because of the way this Assignment is structured, we'll be giving it multiple sections, similar to how we handled the three parts of Hostile Takeover.

On the way up, you'll have to deal with some Geth Turrets to destroy. Remember that unless you're playing Legendary Edition, you'll have an XP penalty on Mako kills.

Geth Incursions slice1.png

Once you arrive at the outpost at the top of the mountain, it's time to do battle with the Geth enemies guarding it. You generally have two approaches: snipe them, or use the Mako:

  • The Mako is only truly reasonable for Legendary Edition players, as they won't have the XP penalty for Mako kills (those playing the original version must exit the Mako and deal the killing blow on foot to avoid this). Keep your distance and use the Left Trigger to get precise aiming to make your shots count. Circle around the base to keep moving and avoid enemy fire.
  • If you prefer to go in on foot, you'll need to snipe your opposition, which is why you have Garrus and Ashley with you. Open fire at a distance far enough away to stay safe, but close enough that your Squad Mates will take shots of their own.

When the final Geth is killed, you can either return to the Normandy, or continue exploring Maji for its Discoveries.

Geth Incursions - Part 2

  • Minimum Electronics : Easy Electronics

Hong - System View - Labels.png

Your second system is Hong, which is located South-East of Vamshi, which was your first stop. While you're here, make sure you collect the following Discoveries:

Casbin Map.png

Once you land on the planet's surface, the Geth Encampment you have to destroy is located North-East of your location. It's marked with a 5 on our map above.

Geth Incursions slice2.png

When you get to the Geth Base, things will proceed much like they did on Maji. Either use the Mako, or pick the Geth off at a distance with your Sniper Rifles.

Once you kill all the Geth in the Outpost's towers, however, a Geth Dropship will appear and dispense a LOT of ground troops! If you want the most XP, you should AVOID defeating the Dropship: you get no XP for doing this, and it'll stop dropping Geth foot soldiers that WILL give you XP!

Geth Incursions - Part 3

Tereshkova - System View - Labels.png

Your next destination is Tereshkova, which is South-West of previous system Hong. When you arrive, check the system for these Discoveries:

Once you have them all, land on Antibaar, the first planet in the system.

Antibaar Map.png

This snowy planet, like the last two planets we landed on, doesn't have a Geth base that can actually be entered. Instead, you'll have to head to the Geth Outpost located North-North-East of your starting location, marked with a 2 on our map above. (use the map above if need be). You'll eventually get to the outpost after getting through some treacherous, snow-laden terrain.

Geth Incursions slice3.png

The terrain is such that you'll take a beating whether you're on foot or in the Mako, especially from missile and rocket-toting foes. On the harder difficulties this will be the toughest leg of the Assignment, but luckily the second wave here isn't quite as challenging. Once the second wave is eliminated, however, you're free to travel to the next planet, or continue exploring this one!

Geth Incursions - Part 4

  • Minimum Decryption : Easy Decryption

Gagarin - System View - Labels.png

Your next system, also in the Armstrong Nebula, is Gagarin, located South of your last system, Tereshkova. While you're here, get these Discoveries:

Once you have them, land on Rayingri, the third planet in the system.

Rayingri Map.png

When you touch down on Rayingri, look for the Overrun Research Outpost to the South of the starting position (marked with a 5 on our map). Getting up here is actually unintuitive: you're supposed to drive up the slope just West of the marker, then go around to the back of the peak to find a driveway with lights on the edge leading up. You can actually see this driveway on the map leading up to the marker.

Rayingri - Overrun Research Outpost.png

The outpost itself has two waves: an initial Husk phase where you clear them out of the outpost, and a Geth stage where they ambush you by spawning in the main room. On harder difficulties this means you can be bottle-necked in the Southern corridors, so you may instead want to draw the Husks in the lower rooms up into the main room, then pick them off from the North doorway so you aren't trapped.

Once the fight has ceased, check the Outpost for these loot objects:

  • Storage Locker - Easy Decryption. On the North wall of the room, between a large box and a tall square planter.
  • Weapon Locker - Easy Decryption. In the South-West corner of the room, among some other identical-looking lockers.
  • Medical Kit - On the Western face of the North-West column. Check our map for the precise location.
  • Crate - In the South-East corner of the room, tucked behind a tall square planter.
  • Malfunctioning Object - On the North wall of the room, between some shelves and a tall square planter.
  • Crate - On the Northern wall of this room, between a server and a square planter.
  • Crate - In the North-East corner of the room, tucked behind some shelves.
  • Malfunctioning Object - In the South-East corner of the room, also tucked behind some shelves.
  • Crate - On the Southern wall of the room, between two of the bunk beds.

Geth Incursions slice4.png

But it's not over yet! As soon as you leave you'll be immediately ambushed by more Geth. These enemies aren't anything special, though, but come in strong, quick, and make themselves out to be a lot stronger than you'd otherwise think.

Quickly take cover behind the science station or behind one of the many boxes and crates surrounding it, and take aim at your foes. When they're killed, you can then head to the Mako and back to the Normandy, or continue exploring Rayingri.

Geth Incursions - Part 5

Grissom - System View - Labels.png

Once you've unlocked Grissom, you can find it in the Southern part of the Armstrong Nebula, just East of the Gagarin system. When you arrive, don't forget to grab these Discoveries:

Once you have them, travel to Solcrum. It may be a bit tricky to select because it's the moon of the third planet, Notanban.

Solcrum Map.png

Once you land on this moon, head to the East to the Geth Base. It's marked with a 3 on our map above.

Geth Incursions slice5.png

When you arrive, you'll reach the Geth Base, but you'll first have to clear out three Sniper Towers and TWO Colossi! If you need to fight on foot, do so quickly, as the Heat Hazard means you can't stay outside for more than 30 seconds before taking ambient damage. Make sure to take cover and be patient here, using Omni-Gel to repair the broken Mako as needed.

When the enemies are all slain, you can then head into the Geth Bunker, where the final battle of this side quest will ensue.

Solcrum - Geth Bunker.png

Once you enter the stronghold, you'll have to breach the main room in order to find the final Geth enemies you are to kill. The close proximity of the enemies, as well as the strength and variety of them, make this a fairly demanding battle.

Geth Incursions slice6.png

Be absolutely sure you take cover from the rocket-launching Geth enemy on the balcony above, and take out the fast-moving Geth before they get near you and explode hit you with devastating melee attacks and shotguns blasts.

When the last of the Geth are slain, an on-screen prompt will pop up letting you know the deed is done. The side quest is complete!

While you're here, make sure to loot the following objects (these are all in the lower side-room):

  • Upgrade Kit - On some shelves on the Eastern wall.
  • Secure Crate - Average Decryption. On some shelves on the Western wall.
  • Geth Terminal - Easy Decryption. On the South wall of the lower side-room. This starts the Tali: Pilgrimage Assignment!

Geth Incursions slice7.png

Head all the way down to Engineering in the lower decks of the Normandy and talk to Tali. She'll ask for a copy of the Geth data you grabbed from the bunker on Solcrum, as it's a very worthy pilgrimage gift (as you'll know if you talked with her enough to learn about her father). Here, you have two outcomes:

  • Pick "All right" or "Take it" to give Tali a copy of the data for +1 Paragon Point .
  • Pick "I can't take that risk" to refuse to give Tali a copy of the data for +1 Renegade Point . You'll also be unable to have any more conversations with Tali aboard the Normandy.

Once you've finished up with Tali, NOW go to the Galaxy Map and use it. Admiral Hackett will contact and congratulate you for stopping what turned out to be a major Geth offensive. Congratulations -- you defeated one of the most demanding and lengthy side quests Mass Effect has to offer!

Best Mission Order In Mass Effect 2

Quick links, prologue: joining cerberus, act 1: putting together your team, act 2 – part 1: finishing recruitment, act 2 – part 2: gaining loyalty, act 3: endgame.

For the most part, Mass Effect 2 is a linear RPG. However, the game does give you some freedom when it comes to mission order. Each act of the adventure has an abundance of quests to take on, and it doesn't matter which you do first or which you save for later.

Mass Effect 2: All Upgrade Locations

Yet, playing each mission in a specific order can improve a playthrough in various ways. For instance, if you complete quests in the optimal sequence, you lower the risk of losing characters by the end of the game. Plus, your narrative experience can be enhanced simply by doing certain missions at certain times. So, here is the order in which you should complete all of the main content.

Updated January 26, 2024 By Ben Jessey: You can play most of the Mass Effect 2 missions in any order you want. However, there is an optimal order that improves the narrative experience and keeps characters alive. We laid out that optimal order in this guide. And now, we've returned to the piece to make sure it's still accurate and easy to read.

During Mass Effect 2's prologue, you have no control over which missions you play . The sequence of events includes an attack on the Normandy, Shepard joining Cerberus, and a visit to Freedom's Progress.

The lack of freedom in the opening stages makes sense as the game slowly introduces you to its mechanics and sets up the story.

Mission Order:

Things start to open up once the prologue ends as the Illusive Man gives you multiple recruitment missions to do at your leisure . You also have a few other quests to keep you busy.

Optimal Mission Order:

After the Horizon quest, the Illusive Man points you toward three more people you should recruit. Plus, this is when loyalty missions start appearing, so make sure you're regularly talking to your teammates.

For the first part of this act, you can only do five quests before triggering the next Collector assignment.

You have plenty of freedom in the wake of the Collector Ship investigation as the game doesn't force you to start the next mission. In fact, you want to avoid initiating the Reaper IFF quest for quite some time .

Instead, the second part of Act 2 is about getting almost all of the loyalty missions done . And these quests are crucial because they help you keep everyone alive during the Suicide Mission .

Mass Effect 2: Should You Save The City Or The Spaceport?

Act 3 serves as the endgame , and it doesn't allow much time for side content. So, make sure that you've done everything before starting these quests .

22:08: G: Hey, glad I caught you.

22:10: S: Just about to head to bed. Late my time. Where are you?

22:10: G: Come on, you know I can't tell you that. Not a secure channel.

22:12: S: Oh, please, Garrus. You don't have to be all secretive. Illium ?

22:12: G: Give it up, Sol.

22:13: S: You're one to talk. Still playing at Spectre , even after all these years.

22:16: G: How's Mom?

22:16: S: Last round of treatments didn't go so well.

22:16: G: Damn it.

22:17: S: We may try an offworld center. Some salarian doctors have something that might work.

22:17: S: It's not covered, though.

22:18: G: Of course not.

22:19: G: I can pay for the treatments.

22:19: S: That's a nice thought. I could really use you here, though.

22:20: G: I can't. How much for the first round?

22:20: S: Forget it.

22:21: G: I can pay.

22:24: S: Sure you can. You lost your C-Sec job, and what about that contract job you were doing up until recently?

22:24: G: Yeah. It ended badly.

22:25: S: So don't give me more garbage about how you're going to help.

22:25: S: You obviously can't help or won't bother.

22:25: S: Damn it, you haven't even bothered to sync up for video chat since you lost that damn job.

22:26: S: If you're ashamed to look me in the eye, then why are we even talking?

22:26: S: Go have your fun doing merc work or screwing around or whatever. Just don't act like you care.

22:30: G: You're right, Sol. I'm sorry.

22:32: S: No, I'm sorry. Things are rough with Mom. The salarians are expensive as hell.

22:33: G: I wish I could help.

22:35: G: I'm going on a trip. Might be away from the relays for a while.

22:35: S: Another pleasure cruise?

22:36: G: You know me.

22:38: S: Send me something nice.

22:38: G: I'll be in touch when I can.

Last mail message received before Omega 4 relay jump:

Mr. Vakarian,

On behalf of Helos Medical Institute, I would like to thank you for your efforts. It has been understandably difficult to get Collector tissue, given the sensitive situation on the human colonies, so the samples you sent to us have been extremely helpful. Please also offer my sincere thanks to Dr. Solus -- I understand he made some calls to the Special Tasks Group , and as a result, our corporate security clearance was upgraded.

Your concern about Corpalis Syndrome is well-founded. While rare, it's an ugly disease. The neurological degeneration is both difficult to witness and nearly impossible to halt. We are in fact working on some test trials for a new treatment, and I believe that with our new STG clearance, we can get all fees for trial members waived as a governmental cooperation effort with the Turian Hierarchy .

Thank you again for your assistance. Donations like these help keep us running. Per your request, we will keep your donations strictly anonymous.

Sincerely, Dr. Jelith Kieron Helos Medical Institute
