Daily Calendar Notebook Undated

Daily Calendar Notebook for Preschool and Kindergarten

Yahoo!  The new Daily Calendar Notebooks for Preschool and Kindergarten are here!

::happy dances all around::

This is the 9th year of the Calendar Notebooks here at Mama’s Learning Corner, and I think they continue to improve each and every year.  I appreciate all of you who continue to use this notebook year after year with your children!

This year I have a BIG CHANGE to the Calendar Notebooks – they are UNDATED!

Read more of this post to find out what exactly that means for you and your children as you use this Calendar Notebook to start your school day!

Regardless of whether your students are Preschool, Kindergarten, or First grade age or stage, you’ll find plenty for your young ones to work through.

Daily Calendar Notebook Undated

What is Included in the Calendar Notebook?

The post contains affiliate links.  For more information, please see my  disclosure policy .

This notebook has a couple of pages to complete each day.  Note that the pages are designed to be placed in  page protectors  and for your child to use a  dry erase marker .

(Yes, I do get the full multi-colored  12-pack of Expo Dry Erase markers .  I let my daughter choose 1 color to use each day.  Just changing colors switches things up a bit!)

If you’re familiar with the Calendar Notebook, you’ll notice that I combined the Preschool and the Kindergarten-First Grade versions again this year.  I got so many emails from parents and teachers that love the combination, so I’ll keep it in this format from now on.

The combined packet makes it easy to differentiate for your students, whether in a homeschool setting or a traditional classroom.

Calendar Notebook Pages

For the past many years, I have updated the graphics each year, and the fonts and layouts as needed.  Usually, I add in several fresh ideas with the extra Daily Learning Pages each year as well.

To be honest, it’s kind of grown into a beast and I needed to streamline it this year.  I exhausted most of my clipart and the new clipart available, so I didn’t have much to add in the way of fresh graphics.

So I made the drastic move to make an UNDATED Calendar Notebook and combine the pages from the last three years.

While there are no “new” graphics this year, I think you will be pleased with the OPTIONS that you will have as you pick and choose which sets of shapes or colors or calendars your child will use.

Of course I give you complete details in the first READ ME file like in the past.  If you need hand-holding, that is where you will find it! ❤

Calendar Notebook Pages

Here’s what is included in the 160-page printable download:

→ Detailed, comprehensive instructions for how to complete each section, including an assortment of ideas for use.

→ Cover Pages : Choose from multiple different nature scenes – sunshine, grassy area, forest scene with path – suitable for boys and girls

→ Undated Monthly Calendars for July through June : 2 versions – one includes traceable dates and the other includes students writing in the date without a writing prompt; also added Christian versions of April (Easter) and December (Christmas); includes 3 sets

→  Monthly Find the Date Pages for July though June : Students find the day’s date and cross it out on the picture; color or decorate the monthly picture if desired; includes 3 sets

→  ‘Today is…’ Page : Determine the day of the week and tomorrow; includes writing the year and acknowledging the current season

→  ‘Today’s Weather’ and ‘Today I feel…’ Page : Record the day’s weather and students draw a circle around how they feel each day (happy, sad, mad, surprised, sick, etc); includes 2 different emotions/feelings pages from which to choose

Calendar Notebook What Time is It

As a side note,  we frequently play this fun feelings game:

  • I say, “Let me see your sad face.”  And everyone (including me) makes their best sad face.
  • I say, “Everyone show their mad face!”  Then we all show our growliest mad faces.
  • I say, “Let me see your surprised face.” We then show our most shocked surprised faces.  (This is everyone’s favorite!)
  • Then we end on my saying, “Show everyone your happy face.”  And we all end in smiles.

This is a simple game, but so much fun and we play it often!

It’s a great game to play when someone is grumpy.  You just can’t participate and be in a bad mood. ♥

Calendar Notebook Find the Date Pages

→  ‘This is how I write my name…’ Page : Students keep a record of how they write their name each month

→  ‘Shapes I Know’ Pages:  Identify and trace specific shapes

→  Alphabet Practice Pages: Practice writing the letters of the alphabet; includes upper and lowercase letters

→  ‘I can count to…’ Pages:  Practice counting and tracing numbers 1 through 10

→   ‘What time is it?’ Page : Determine the correct time and write in analog and digital

Calendar Notebook Pages

→  ‘What time? Page : Practice writing in the correct time of day for snack, reading, etc.

→ ‘What time is it?’ Practice Page : Students listen for the time and then write in the hands of the clocks correctly

→   ‘How Many Days Have We Been in School?’ Page : Keep track of days in school with tally marks

→  ‘I Can Count Coins!’ Page : Write in the correct value of each coin

→  Days of the Week:  Practice writing the days of the week and their abbreviations

Calendar Notebook 2020-2021

→  Months of the Year:  Practice writing the months of the year and their abbreviations

→   ‘My Weather Chart for…’ Page : Record the weather each day; includes charts for July-June

→   Daily Weather Bar Graph : Plot the daily weather at the end of each month and analyze the data

→   ‘How Many Sunny Days?’ Page : Use the daily weather chart to track sunny days; compare and contrast each month’s data

→  ‘How Many Rainy Days?’ Page : Use the daily weather chart to track rainy days; compare and contrast each month’s data

Calendar Notebook Monthly Calendars

How Do I Set Up the Notebook?

To create your Calendar Notebook, you’ll need the following supplies:

–  copy paper – This is currently the best price!  I just bought this, which will last us the whole homeschool year.  But YIKES that’s still expensive.

–  page protectors  – I purchased these last year and they held up beautifully.

–  dry erase markers

–  3-ring notebook  –  You  wil l  want the durable notebook, not a cheapy one if you want it to last all year.

– card stock – It’s best to print the weather graphs on card stock since they get so much use; this is the brand that’s most often on sale at Amazon and the one I purchase

Calendar Notebook Daily Extra Pages

You’ll find detailed instructions for setting up the Calendar Notebook in the READ ME FIRST download.

All of the descriptions and how-to’s are laid out clearly so there’s no guess work for you.  Just download, print, and place in your notebook!

Thanks for asking 🙂 Lauren

Hi- Does the packet include something like quarterly assessment pieces to show student growth? Thank you

Can we start this now in June ? Is there anything that makes this unusable for Southern Hemisphere – ie seasons linked with months

May 22, 2020 at 7:27 pm

Hey Debbie, Sadly I did not create it with the Southern Hemisphere in mind (shame on me, I know!). I’m sorry for that. The pictures on the calendars are definitely linked to the season here in the N. Hemisphere. There are certain portions of the calendar where that wouldn’t matter, however – the daily work, the extra learning pages, the weather pages, etc. Next year, I’ll include calendars that don’t have any seasonal pictures at all. Putting that on my to-do list for next year right now. xo, Lauren

Thank you for creating and updating these every year. My children really enjoy them each morning as a way to begin our studies! I love them!

Do you know when the next calendar will come out? I noticed after buying the all access that this ends in June. I love the format for my 3 year old.

May 20, 2022 at 8:08 pm

Hey Kelsey! Thank you for buying an All Access Pass! I appreciate that! Please let me know if you need any help with it.

I usually have the new calendars out by now, but alas, time has snuck up on me. I won’t work on them this weekend (it’s my birthday!), but my goal is to publish them by Wednesday…and Friday by the latest if too much life happens between now and then. 🙂

They will definitely be published again and SOON! Thank you! xo, Lauren

I love this idea. I really want to try this with my homeschool kiddos. My one child doesnt like paper work. She gets confused and finds it boring. But these look fun and more inviting. Rebecca

These notebooks were perfect for my middle girl who hates the physical act of writing (she still does at 13!). Something about the dry erase markers seem to make it more tolerable. 🙂 Hope it works well for your kiddos! ❤ xo, Lauren

Calendar Board Printables from Homeschool Creations

Over the past four+ years there is one thing that has been a constant part of our morning routine – our calendar board. Each of our kids has participated in learning from it, and it has been a fun way to add a bit of math, Bible, and other subjects into a start of our day. Our youngest is in first grade and we’ll likely be using it next year with him as well for continued practice.

Our Current Calendar and Morning Board

The current setup for our calendar and morning board hasn’t changed much over the last two years, but I recently realized that there are a large number of you that have never seen it before!

Calendar Board and printables from Homeschool Creations-1

The calendar and morning board is essentially the size of a large posterboard. We used a piece of foam board to make it super sturdy and then used a mix of activities and things we wanted to include in our routine. On the board above you can see the following printables (linked below) – I’ve listed them from top to bottom by column (items with an * are included in the calendar printable pack):

  • Prayer cards for our Compassion children . Each week we put a different card at the front. These are half sheets of paper that I made with pictures of the c hildren we sponsor through Compassion (and there is also a card for a missionary friend in the mix).
  • Skip Counting Charts – we have charts from 1 to 12 that we rotate through and practice. The originals are 8.5” x 11”, so I printed them off 2 to a page to make them smaller.
  • Make the Date  – we use plastic coins to make the date with money. For example, if it is the 24th of the month we could use 2 dimes and four pennies to make the date. (Find these here .)
  • What Time is It? * There is a mini Judy clock velcroed on to this part. Kaleb sets the clock to the correct time and then writes the time in digitally.
  • Days in School * – Each day we add another number to our days in school and learn how to break a number down and identify number words (match to Math U See program colors)
  • ABC Bible Verse Cards – These flashcard-sized ABC Bible verse cards have a verse for every letter of the alphabet and are in constant review.
  • We Choose Virtues cards – The teacher cards from the We Choose Virtues character program slide into half of a page protector (5 1/2” x 8 1/2”). We review one character trait and the ‘catch phrase’ each week.
  • Today’s Temperature * – a little help to track and compare the indoor and outdoor temperature and learn how to use a thermometer
  • The Weather Outside * – a weekly weather tracker
  • Today’s Date (hanging from the bottom) – from Mama Jenn

Below you can download all of the calendar and morning board printables that I’ve created and use them to put together your own calendar board. The printables are available for free!

daily calendar worksheet kindergarten

How to Make a Calendar Board

If you’d like to make your own calendar and morning board, you might want to grab the following supplies:

  • calendar printables
  • laminator and laminating pouches
  • cardstock (for printing)
  • 3M adhesive hooks
  • velcro dots
  • page protectors
  • mini Judy clock
  • metal book rings/jump rings

Assembly and Storage:

I purchased a piece of foam board from Target/Walmart and used adhesive hooks to hang the board on the wall (and a pencil to poke holes through the board – grins). After laminating most of my pieces, I used double-sided tape to adhere the main pieces to the board. I also cut several sheet protectors in half to slide in other pieces (like the skip counting charts) that were not laminated.

There isn’t a set way to put the board together – I just decided what pieces we wanted on our board and then rearranged them on the board before adhering anything.

image

Velcro was my friend. Every coin and number card has a velcro dot attached to it in some way. Keep in mind that all of those little squares and coins need to be stored somehow. I laminated several pieces of cardstock and then attached the extra pieces to the cards for storage and keep them in a small bin from Ikea. We can easily find the pieces we need and return any unused pieces to the cards.

10 great tips for people who are teaching a struggling learner

Jolanthe, Thank you for again posting your routine. I am working on my son’s morning board area, which is currently a blank wall. That isn’t too much inspiration for starting the day. He needs absolutely everything you currently use, so I will be recreating much of what you use with Kaleb. I just needed some direction.

What a wonderful resource! This is my first year homeschooling and my oldest will be in Kindergarten level next year so this is perfect for that. Thank you for sharing!

' src=

Hope it’s a help to you! :)

' src=

Thanks so much!

' src=

Dear Jolanthe, I would like to thank you so much for sharing your stuffs freely. My 5 year old was able to learn how to read date, thermometer, count, etc thanks to your calendar printables. EVen though I couldn’t set up the whole calendar board like you (we had to move and my youngest wouldn’t leave it still) but he was able to do calendar notebook daily (pretty much), which allowed him learn to count numbers, write date, tell weather etc and we had 100 day celebration too when he finished filling up his 100 day chart! :) Thank you SOOOO much!

Thanks for sharing, Joy – and SO glad to hear this!! :)

' src=

What did you attach the jump rings to the poster with at the bottom?

Clear 3M adhesive hooks – love those things!

' src=

Hi. I have a 3rd and 5th grader. Should we just use the calendar board? Or should we use both? Or should we just use the daily calendar notebooks? Would love your opinion.

My 3rd grader used the notebook in lui if the board :)

Do you use the 5/8″ Velcro dots? I see that is the size your link goes to. Is there any other size you use that would be beneficial to get in addition to the ones you use on your morning board? I know you have an affiliate link to Amazon but are the ones at feinersupply.com the same thing?

For the morning board, we do use the larger velcro dots. The ones at Feiner are the same, but you will get a LOT of them (and likely not need them for years to come). A friend and I split the cost of the rolls and we still have them!

' src=

Thank you so much for this great resource! We are gearing up for our 2nd year of homeschooling. I’ve put together the Calendar Notebook and am now working on the Calendar morning board. We are so excited to utilize this!

Enjoy!! I JUST pulled out calendar board off the wall. So mixed on my feelings. :( BUT it went to a good home! :)

' src=

Hi, I downloaded the printables for the calendar (thank you so much!!), but the pack was missing the “Make the Date” page. Is there I way I could get a PDF of that? I know it would be really simple to make, but I’m trying to steal a couple of moments to print (rather than create) while my one year-old destroys the house and my 5 year-old screams at her 3 year-old brother. :} Any help would be appreciated! Thank you for your blog post!!

Tasha – I’ll check it out when I get home and see what is going on. Thanks for letting me know!

I need to relink that – you can find that one here: http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.com/Calendar.html

Sorry about the confusion!!

' src=

I love this. I had printed this pack out for my oldest kids. I laminated most of the pages and put them all in a three ring binder, instead of a bulletin board. It works SO well. Now it’s time to start my youngest on these ideas and so I am back to print out a few of the pages we need new for her! THANK YOU!!

Great idea!! Have fun this year!!

' src=

I know it is several years later :) , but where can I find the printable of the day, month, date and year that you have hanging on the rings? Particularly, the year…I have it going up through 2016, but it’s 2017 now and I don’t have that year for my calendar board…Thank you!!!!

AH! I just saw that it is from Mama Jenn’s blog…so sorry!!!

No worries – glad you found the link! :)

' src=

I love the calendar board. We started our first day of homeschooling my 3 and 5 year old. It didn’t go as well as I imagined it. They were running around and playing with each other. How do I get them to participate?

Start of simple. With little ones it can be hard to keep their attention, so we always ease into everything. Try adding one thing a day with the calendar board and let them participate as much as possible. There’s always a learning curve for kids (and moms). :)

Hope you have a great year!

' src=

Thanks for sharing, Thank you so much for this great idea! More helpful. We are gearing up for our 3rd year of homeschooling. We are so excited to this! Love it…….

' src=

i love your work on youtube.thank you for what you are sharing! in my opinion you are the best mom teacher I could find. God bless you and your family!❤

Kindergarten Calendar Worksheets

Good morning to all you kindergarten teachers out there! I have another fun free kindergarten printable worksheet for you today! To help Tinker Bell with her number writing practice, I created some blank printable seasonal calendar worksheets .

kindergarten seasonal calendar worksheets

–> Click here to download the Kindergarten Monthly Calendar Worksheets <–

(Downloading: If you have troubles downloading, RIGHT click on the download link and select “SAVE LINK AS”. You will then be prompted to save the file to your computer.)

I only show a few calendars above, but this download includes 17 different calendar choices!  While I am located in the United States, I know I have several international followers as well so I created calendar themes that will fit the needs of everyone no matter your location. (Or at least I tried to anyway! Let me know if you need a different image and I’ll try to accommodate.)

How do you use the Monthly Calendar Printables?

Each month I pick a new Calendar based on our season, and have her write in the number for each day. I keep the calendar worksheet in her math workbox and so she just adds a new number every morning. On Mondays she adds the numbers for the prior Saturday and Sunday to her page. When that month is completed, we pull out a new month worksheet and start all over!

These monthly calendar worksheets great practice writing numbers, counting, and also helps them get used to seeing a calendar, and noting what day today is, what yesterday was, and what tomorrow will be. And even what month of the year it is.

I hope you enjoy the Kindergarten Monthly Calendar Worksheets !

These activities are part of my K4 Curriculum geared towards kindergartners. If you have a preschooler you might want to check out my Letter of the Week Curriculum , click on the images below to see more activities.

Thank you for these! This is exactly what I was looking for, and I love that my kinder gets to write the numbers in herself!

Hello I am searching for your I Can Write My Name worksheet for February through June please.

The I Can Write My Name worksheets are part of my Daily Learning Notebook, you can find it here: https://store.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=70_104

Dear Erica- I ordered your K4 curriculum for the second time recently. This is the second time the CD is not reading for me, my computer tells me it is blank? I also purchased the Letter of the week curriculum and I have no problems with it. Can you advise? Kim

Thanks for being so kind and generous with your printables. I love these calendars and hope they help me teach my kiddos about the months of the year. Again, thank you so much!

Thank you so much for not having the names of the months on the calendars! Here in the Southern Hemisphere, January hits the scorching 100s, so having things with snowflakes on it is fairly confusing for my four year old.

Thank you so much. As a first year Kindergarten teacher with little in the way of budget at my school, and nothing in the way of time, I really appreciate that you have made these freely available. I am adding one to the homework pack I am sending home with my students for winter break.

Greetings from Australia! I have been searching for some suitable worksheets and ideas and found them all right here! Thank you very much

Thank you so much for this calendar. We are moving, somewhat unexpectedly, mid-year to another state and I have the privilege of homeschooling my children for a few months. However, I’m scrambling to put good, solid work together and I came across your website…and you are giving this planner away for free!! Thank you for your generosity.

Do you still have the calendars with the traceable numbers? I purchased the kindergarten book with the hope they were in the bundle. They appeared to be in bundle picture. My 4&5 year old are just learning to write numbers so I was hoping for the traceable version.

Yes, I update the calendars and put them on my blog free for download every month, you can also get the updated 2020-2021 calendars in the Preschool Daily Learning notebook.

The Best Daily Kindergarten Schedule

In the Classroom

the-best-kindergarten-schedule

Table of Contents

  • 1 Things to Consider When Planning a Kindergarten Schedule
  • 2 Sample of a Full Day Kindergarten Schedule

One of the most common questions I get from new kindergarten teachers is about the daily kindergarten schedule.

A daily schedule for kindergarten students can look different from room to room within the same elementary school.

In other words, there are many ways you can structure your school day with the young children.

the-best-kindergarten-schedule-pin-1 - The best kindergarten schedule for a full day classroom.

In this blog post, I will share things to consider when planning your kindergarten schedule and a sample schedule for a full day kindergarten classroom.

Things to Consider When Planning a Kindergarten Schedule

Here are the most important factors, I believe, will effect your daily schedule in kindergarten.

If you can think of other factors, please leave a comment at the end of this blog post to help others.

  • Is it full-day kindergarten?
  • Is it half day kindergarten?
  • Are there special needs and IEP’s you will need to consider?
  • What are the bell schedules?
  • Will you be doing primarily small groups?
  • How many kids are in the class?
  • Is free play allowed?
  • Allowing transition time
  • Will there be rest time?
  • Your school district’s curriculum map
  • Arrival and dismissal procedures
  • What specials will your kids attend? (i.e. library, art, PE, music, computers)

Sample of a Full Day Kindergarten Schedule

This is an example of my full-day kindergarten schedule.

We had a very long school day, and often found the kids had a hard time getting through the days.

I highly recommend kindergarten students be dismissed around 2:30 – 3:00.  Longer than that often leads to high behavior problems.

8:25-9:00 Arrival

Students begin arriving at school.

Some kids trickle to the cafeteria for the school’s breakfast program, while other kids would line up in the hall and talk quietly.

9:00-9:20 Morning Work and Attendance

Before greeting all of the students, I would choose a kid who was doing a good job in line to be the Question of the Day helper.

I would send him/her into the room to wait by the Question of the Day display. More on that in a minute…

Create a positive start to the by by standing by the door to welcome each kid into the classroom.

When the kids come into the room, they:

  • hang up their bookbags
  • put their take-home folder in the assigned container
  • put their lunch boxes in the bin or put their name card under the buying section
  • go to the question of the day area

question of the day

When they get to the question of the day area, the chosen helper reads the question of the day to them, and they put their name card under the yes or no column.

Next, they go to their tables for morning work.

Morning work may consist of a simple task, such as writing their name, then they are free to play with the manipulatives or toys that are on their tables.

While they are playing, I take attendance.

I’ve taken attendance several ways over the years. Scanning the room, a cute attendance board , and role call to practice listening and response skills, are examples of what I’ve done.

owl-attendance-feature

9:20- Clean up and Transition to Carpet

I use transition songs to reinforce cleaning up quickly, and coming to the carpet quietly.

9:25 – 9:50 Morning Meeting

During morning meeting, we do a quick review of many skills, such as:

  • Review Question of the Day or Would You Rather Question
  • Morning message
  • Counting the days of school
  • Music and movement: typical an alphabet song, popular nursery rhyme, or number songs.

We also briefly go over the daily schedule cards and special of the day. I found a visual schedule to work best in a kindergarten classroom.

daily calendar worksheet kindergarten

9:50-10:00 Bathroom Break

Even if there is a bathroom in the classroom, it’s sometimes nice to take the whole class at once. That way, there will be less bathroom interruptions while you are teaching important lessons.

The amount of time you spend in the bathroom will be greater at the beginning of the year.

Teaching the kids how to wait in line and take turns using the restroom requires a lot of patience. But, I promise it gets better as the year goes on.

10:00-10:10 SNACK

Not sure what kids like? Here are 30 Non-dairy snacks for kids you can get ideas from.

10:10-11:15 Language Arts and Literacy Centers

The daily routine for the ELA block includes whole group mini lessons, story time, shared reading, and the poem of the day, followed by language arts centers.

How much time you spend on learning centers will vary.

To be honest, there were days when the young kids could only handle a little time together, and others when they allowed me ample opportunities to keep them engaged in literacy centers.

On a typical day, you will find the kids engaged in:

  • Making Words : Seasonal themed printables to build, write, and color.
  • Write the Room
  • Free Choice Writing Center
  • Practice Sight Words
  • Letter Sorts
  • Beginning Sounds Picture Sorts
  • Name Writing
  • Build a Poem : Pocket chart nursery rhymes
  • Guided Reading

11:20-11:50 Specials

12:00-12:50 lunch and recess.

After specials, we quickly get back to the classroom to grab lunch boxes and coats if needed for recess.

If it’s indoor recess, we don’t waste time getting coats on and zipped.

If you need ideas for indoor recess, check out my post “ 35 Ideas for Indoor Recess “

12:50-1:00 Bathroom Break

To assure every kid uses the restroom and washes their hands after playing on the playground, I prefer to take another whole class bathroom break.

daily calendar worksheet kindergarten

1:00-1:10 Quiet Time

During this time, I like to create an environment that helps the kids refocus after recess.

They often want to come inside and tattle on everyone and everything, and they are all worked up.

Playing quiet meditation music, or reading aloud a chapter of their favorite chapter books , while they sit at their tables with their head down is a great way to cool down.

During this time, I also call a table over to the counting jar. They quietly write their estimated number on the post-it (telling me how many objects they think are in the jar), then return to their seat.

By Friday, all tables have been called, and we unpack the counting jar.

1:10- 1:20 Daily Math Talks

Doing a daily math talk was the perfect way to transition the kids into their daily math lessons.

This is a time where the kids are not pressured to get things “right”, but are encouraged to participate and share their thinking surrounding a math topic.

Watch the video below to see what others are saying about the Daily Math Talks I have created for the entire school year.

1:20-2:20 Math

After getting the kids talking and increasing engagement with math talks, we begin our formal math block.

This block has a similar structure as the literacy block. For example, we begin with a math mini-lesson as a whole group.

Then, the kids transition to math centers, or math stations.

Our math centers typically consist of play time with manipulatives.

During their play, they often use the manipulatives in a way that reflects the mini-lesson just taught.

Other centers include:

  • Monthly Math Mats : Practicing matching numerals to sets of objects
  • Task Cards and Recording Sheets
  • Tens-Frame work
  • Number line activities
  • 100’s chart activities
  • Counting sensory bins
  • Number Playdoh Mats

october-math-mats-numbers-to-10-sensory-bin

2:20-2:30 Brain Break

Brain breaks are integrated throughout the entire day, but this a structured time devoted to movement and music.

With five year olds, and elementary students, it’s especially important to keep their brains active.

2:30-3:00 Social Studies and/or Science

On an given day, this block would consist of social studies or science activities.

It seems as though all special events, or school assemblies, would be held during this time.

3:00-3:40 Free Choice Play Time

Because we had an extremely long school day (too long if you ask me), it was important to let the kids have time to just play.

No hidden agendas, no organized rotations, just let them choose what they wanted to play with.

At the start of the year, play time does have to be structured to eliminated age-appropriate meltdowns over who plays with what.

the-best-kindergarten-schedule-pin-1

As the year went on, free choice time runs on it’s own.

The kids no longer have a hard time getting along . If they see an area looks full, they learned to find something else to do.

There were days, however, that I would have to use a classroom management technique to rotate the kids to other areas.

This time was also a great time for me to pull the kids for one-on-one assessments, fill out daily behavior folders, and sometimes prepare for the following day.

3:40-3:55 Prepare for Dismissal

Clean up, gather book bags, pass out any school papers and folders, and make sure everyone is ready to go home for the day – on a happy note.

3:55-4:20 Dismissal

This is the time when kids begin getting called for dismissal.

The car riders are called to the cafeteria.

Bus riders are called to the gymnasium where they wait in a sitting line based on bus numbers.

The goal was to have all of the kids loaded onto the busses by 4:20. Some days it worked great, while others not so much.

Daily Calendar Notebook

daily calendar worksheet kindergarten

I have wanted to create a daily calendar notebook for years.  I have seen them used in classrooms {back in my teaching days} and then last year my pal Mama Jenn posted her version here .  Recently I was inspired to take the dive and create a notebook for my 2 boys, Kindergarten and 4th grade!  Since I knew I was going to add a few more sheets, I decided to recreate all of the pages we would need specifically for my two boys ~ also knowing some of you may want them too!  Jenn has some pages I don’t have { money, tally marks, place value and more } so be sure to get other sheets from her if you are interested in them.  I personally have given up on counting our days in school since it drives me nuts to be off a day.

IMG_6536

Each child has a mini supply box {boxes are from this awesome organizer }, here’s a peek into PacMan’s, which contains everything he needs to complete his notebook each day: crayons, pencils, dry erase click marker, Vis a Vis markers .  There’s also a community eraser that sits nearby.

IMG_6883

Here is a glimpse into the printables in each notebook, many are the same but I made a cursive version for PacMan and a print version for Krash.  Be sure to make it to the end of the post if you want to see a video of me walking you through the notebook !

These printables can be downloaded for free on my Calendar webpage , just scroll to the bottom to find the section!

Month Calendars ~ each day they just write the next number in. Just print a new sheet each month.

Slide1

Write the Number ~ extra handwriting practice and number word spelling practice.  Pac writes them, Krash spells them out loud and just traces the number.

Slide3

Day of the Week ~ each day they trace the current day and abbreviation.  They also circle yesterday/tomorrow.  They then sing the song together.  This page is in a sheet protector so we can erase it at the end of the week.  They use a Vis a Vis to prevent smudging throughout the week. The images below show Monday first, but the updated file has Sunday first to match the songs.  The boys quickly corrected my mistake!

Slide8

Month ~ They obviously only change this page when we have a new month.  But we sing the song daily.  Also in a sheet protector .

Slide11

Weather & Season ~ circle the season once, do the weather graph daily.

Slide12

We still use our _____ of the Day chart on our main calendar board, which is where they look to get the following items.  I change them out when necessary and if I forget, Pac does it for me!

IMG_6541

USA ~ we go through our states A-Z, still using our USA PowerPoint show and Erica’s USA printables.  We don’t do a new state daily {usually 1-2 per week}, but record our new state after we finish our simple research on the state.

Slide13

For our state work, we are using Road Trip USA -just the state coloring pages, and also this awesome My States Notebook .  The boys work together to complete the pages, we also review all states with our USA Geography PowerPoint show.

IMG_6579

Shapes ~ there’s also a shape cards page in the download in case you need a set to use to “choose” the shape of the day.

Slide14

Colors ~ colors page is included also in the download, to cut apart and “choose” a daily color.

Slide17

Pac has an extra sheet, Today’s Number .  On this sheet he takes the date and makes 6 math problems to equal that number. This sheet is in a sheet protector and he erases it daily.  He uses a thin dry erase click marker for this one.

Slide5

Krash has 2 extra sheets, one to add a word per day to our current word family , and one to record a word per day from our You Can Read unit.  Each day he reads all the words he has listed also.

Slide6

Additional Items not included as printables in my download…

Mini Calendar Connections Sheet

I added in a sheet-starting with the Thanksgiving set, with all cards on one page just so I can add it to their notebook.  You can find this page for this month and upcoming months within the small set of Calendar Connections cards .

Weekly Bible Verse

I included a cursive copy work page and a print trace work page for each child taken from our Bible verse of the week.  We are currently going through the Seeds Family Worship Printables that Valerie shares over at Totally Tots.  You can find all downloads for the sheets we use over there!

Sponsored Child{ren} Prayer Sheet …

I created a sheet that includes photos of our sponsored children and maps showing their location { all of our kids are in Rwanda, Africa }.  We actually have one more little girl who we are now sponsoring {I just couldn’t resist while at Relevant}, but I don’t have her online photo yet-I will update this sheet when I do. I just used their photos from the sponsorship website and then searched on Google for a map and flag shot.  I added in stars to show which city they live in, and then on the bottom right I added 2 stars to represent us and them. This page is intended to be a visual reminder to pray for them and talk about them each day. Slipped in the back of the sheet protector that holds this sheet is our most recent letter/photo form each child.  Here they were looking at our “brother” Albert and catching up on what life is like for him.

IMG_6600

Finally, for those of you who prefer a walk through, here’s my cheesy video that I made just for you.  It is a few minutes and probably very boring unless you want to see their actual notebooks and how I have them set up.  I also show the differences between the 2 boys and what they complete each day.

Explain that each year, the earth rotates around the sun one time. It takes 12 months. As each month passes, the earth moves a little bit more around the sun. After 12 months, it has come full circle, and a new year begins. Altogether, it takes 365 days for a complete rotation. For a concrete illustration, have children sit in a circle. Place a model of the sun in the middle. Choose one child to walk around it while holding a model of the earth.

Incorporate these calendar-themed felt chants into regularly scheduled calendar time activities. Recite the chants and display the correct corresponding days, months, and dates on the felt board when mentioned.

Sample Kindergarten Daily Schedule

What does your daily schedule look like in Kindergarten? Everyone’s schedule looks different and sometimes depending on your school or district, you may have a set schedule that you MUST stick to. At my last school, I was free to create my own schedule, so I have some tips and ideas on how to create your own schedule on this blog post here. Today, I am going to share what my Kindergarten daily schedule looked like.

Sample Daily Kindergarten schedule

For this Kindergarten daily schedule, I just added in sample times but you can see about how much time I spent on each part of the day. It’s easy to adjust the times and find what works for your students. If you have to create your own schedule, make sure to check out this post to learn how to create your own daily schedule .

8:00- 8:15am Arrival and Morning Routine

In the morning, this time can be chaotic! You may have students coming in staggered or needing to eat breakfast in the morning. Having a solid and structured morning routine really sets your students up to have a productive day (and will be easier for you to manage the 100 things you need to get done in the morning. You can read more about my morning routine in detail here: Kindergarten Morning Routine .

8:15-8:30am Morning Meeting and Calendar Time

Yes, I am old school with wanting to do a Morning Meeting/Circle Time/Calendar Time every morning. It really does set the tone for the day and gives my students a chance to talk before we get our day started. My students all sit in a circle on the carpet and we use a similar routine to the Morning Meeting template found in this book here: The Morning Meeting Book . We greet the friends and either side of us, then I ask them a question of the day. Usually it’s something that will get a one sentence answer, like “What is your favorite ice cream flavor?” or even a yes/no or this or that kind of question.

After our greeting, I like to share any announcements for the day and go over our daily schedule, letting them know what special we go to today (it helps eliminate the questions of “What time is lunch?” or “What special do we have today.” It helps to have some kind of visual on the board to go through each part of the day.

daily calendar worksheet kindergarten

For Calendar time, we use our Calendar time binders and I have a calendar helper who ends up taking over instead of me. You can read more about my Calendar time here: Making Calendar Time Interactive .

8:30-8:45: Phonemic Awareness Daily Warm-Up/Phonics Lesson

Phonemic Awareness Daily Warm Up on TPT

Next, we start our most important part of our day- Phonemic Awareness Warm-Up. I’ve found that doing this first thing in the morning has the most success with my students. They are attentive and ready to learn. This is a quick 5 minute phonemic awareness lesson that I keep on my clipboard. It typically takes about 5 minutes. You can read more about how I incorporate this phonemic awareness routine here .

Immediately following our phonemic awareness daily warm-up, we will do a quick phonics lesson. Depending on the day, it may be an anchor chart, a picture sort, write and wipe activity, or even write the room! I created the SFK Phonics Curriculum with these daily mini phonics lessons that you can find in my TPT store included in the Yearlong Phonics Curriculum. The phonics lesson will take about 10 minutes.

8:45-9:50 ELA Centers

Since Kindergarten students are typically most attentive in the morning, this is when I start centers. Some years I’ve had to adjust this due to specials schedule, but I really aim to keep this in the morning. An hour is the perfect time frame to complete center rotations, but I’ve also split this up and it’s worked well too.

You can read all about how I organize and set up my ELA centers here: How to Run Kindergarten Centers Successfully .

9:50-10:10 Recess

Recess times will vary, but typically we’ve had an early recess time and lasting anywhere from 15-20 minutes. I make sure to give my students a few minutes coming in from recess to cool down and have a water break.

10:10-10:20 Snack

We always had snack during recess time, but some schools may have it before or after. I usually pop on some calm music and let the kids chat with each other.

10:20- 10:45 Read Aloud and Comprehension Lesson

Reading aloud to your students is so important to do and should be done daily! I use this time to read a story and then work on whatever reading comprehension skill for that week. Typically with reading curriculums, you will have a reading lesson daily, so I used this time to do the read aloud and then the lesson that went along with it.

10:45- 11:30 Writing and Sight Words

daily calendar worksheet kindergarten

This time was designated for our writing block. We did have a writing center daily during ELA centers and I also used my small group time one day a week to focus on more specific writing skills.

During this writing time, my students were at their desks and I was modeling a writing activity. Then, we would do a whole group writing activity, and finally an independent writing activity .

This is also the time we would practice sight words. Sometimes we would do our daily sight word routine before the lesson (if we were writing sentences using sight words for example). Other times we would do it after the writing lesson. If our writing lesson was short, we would spend some time doing a quick sight word activity .

Usually we would finish our writing lesson about 5 minutes early so we could get ready to go to lunch.

11:30- 12:00 Lunch

12:00-12:20 math lesson.

Just like our phonics lesson, we would do a mini math lesson. I used this Kindergarten Math curriculum from Proud to be Primary and found the mini lessons to be about 15 minutes long. No matter what math curriculum you use, you want to aim to keep math lessons short and sweet. You will focus more on individual math skills when students are in your math small group and practicing during math centers.

12:20-1:20 Math Centers

Honestly, I do not need a full hour for math centers, but if you have the hour then take it! My math centers are set up the same as my ELA center rotation. I use this additional small group time to work with my students on whatever math concept we are working on.

1:20-1:30 Brain Break

Halfway through the afternoon, I try to have a brain break scheduled, so my students can get their wiggles out.

1:30- 2:00 Specials

Make sure to leave about 5 minutes before and after the special open to account for walking time.

2:00-2:40 Science, Social Studies, or Social Emotional Skills

Social Emotional Curriculum from Haley O'Connor

Since science and social studies are typically weaved into the reading curriculum, I do not teach both every single day. Same goes for Social Emotional skills. We will talk about it during morning meeting and pretty much at some point every day. I rotated what we worked on each day. Monday and Tuesday was Science, Wednesday and Thursday was Social Studies, and then Fridays we had a social emotional skill lesson. I used this Social Emotional curriculum from Haley O’Connor and focused on one character trait per month. If we didn’t have school on Monday or Friday, I would just adjust accordingly, skipping one day of science or social studies. I believe that social emotional learning is so important for students, so I really tried to never skip this one.

This rotation always worked well for me. Another option you could do is one week of Science lessons, one week of Social Studies lessons, and then social emotional lesson on one specific day every week.

2:40-2:50 Clean Up

You’ve reached the end of the day! It’s important to figure out your afternoon routine, just like you would for a morning routine. Make sure you take at least 5 minutes to clean up the classroom. My best trick was to play a countdown timer song and have students clean up the entire classroom. I made sure that everything was put away, desks were wiped off, chairs were stacked (with teacher’s help). I did this so that I wasn’t spending my after contract hours cleaning up. You will have to help them with cleaning up and help them see what needs to be cleaned. However, by the second month of school they should be able to do it on their own.

TIP: Once they’ve got the cleaning the classroom part done, this is a great time for you to prep for the next day. I would change the date, fix the daily schedule, clear off my desk, check my email one last time (for any last minute dismissal changes) and grab tomorrow’s daily bin. This can usually be done in the 5 minutes it takes them to clean up.

After they clean up, they pack up- however that looks for your classroom. I had a take home folder that they packed with their papers, put in their backpack, grabbed their lunchbox and then sit in a designated spot. Clearly your packing up situation will depend on your classroom and what procedures you set.

2:50-2:55 Afternoon Routine

This typically left us with about 5 minutes to end our day. My students would all be sitting down in the same place as we hold our morning meeting. They all have their backpacks on and lunchboxes in their lap. We would do an afternoon meeting. This is when I would ask a few students to share something they learned that day. (or the whole class if time allowed). Some days, I would just let my students chat with their friends around them. Other times, I would read a story aloud or read a chapter from a chapter book. No matter what, I made sure we had these 5 minutes of calm to reflect on our day or just relax.

3:00 Dismissal

That’s it for the day! Drop your students off at their designated dismissal place and you’re Kindergarten day is over.

Kids leaving Kindergarten

Depending on your school and times, your schedule may look very different than mine! But this is just a sample schedule. I hope this sample Kindergarten daily schedule gave you some ideas and time frames to work with. If you are creating your own schedule, make sure to check out this post here to learn some tips on how to set your schedule up .
